BBAU 2025 house at Dreamworld Exhibition Centre

I'm doing my write-up of it now. I've realised a lot of it is giving "liminal spaces"? 😅 The main living area, and the pink-and-teal nook, kinda look like they could be part of a 90s arcade and hotel, respectively.

And I'm not sure how much of it is due it being grainy, low-res Instagram videos.

On one of the rewatch marathons, there was a supposed insider who claimed that there would be a phone call twist with the UK in the first week. Still wouldn't know if I want to believe that but there is actually a telephone in the house.

Also, condolences to the Dutch-Belgian production crew who inspired the UK house and now not getting any love from Australia despite some of the design elements have originally been taken from the Dutch-Belgian house... (which in itself took some inspiration from 7).

…and they said 10 HMs would enter at Launch which, with the discovery of the potential HMs leak, might end up being the case.

So the house is HEAVILY ITV themed. Idk, this whole UK design pallet that’s been borrowed is just so plastic and colourful and is reminiscent of something Disney and Nickelodeon. What is with the “luxury” house design? Hm’s are moving into a 5 star penthouse suite.

The overall layout I actually think is quite decent, but the furniture and colour choices aren’t hitting for me. The bedroom is basically the same design. But the no roof thing? Did they run out of time and money? Did they learn nothing from 7?

House 6/10
Diary Room 3/10

It screams temporary to me. Hopefully means an improvement for 2026. Tho if it’s basically the same then (cough, ITV) I don’t think the series has much of a future, at least for its older fans.

I’m gonna keep saying it so the universe hears it. Produce and edit the show properly!

I have said this before, but it's exactly what i expected. We copy everything from bb UK and its the same production company that produced the 7 version so the houses where gonna be very similar

House is UGLY AF. Will be interesting to see what’s learned from this series and whether they abandon the Exhibition Centre for next year. One can only assume the rushed nature of this series and budget were factors in the decision making here.

The former parking lot beside the Exhibition Centre is the perfect place to expand going forward with a semi permanent/modular soundstage. No idea how accurate this is (perhaps someone like @matts bb can chimes in) but I ran this through ChatGPT and the cost estimate it came up with is about $3.5 - $4 million which no doubt would at least be partially shared with Dreamworld.

Again in terms of moving forward setup for this series (at least to me) doesn’t seem sustainable in the long term. The intent seems to be 10 are hoping to get multiple series out of this so there’s going to need to be some investment if they plan on sticking with Dreamworld for more than just this first series.

The reason I’ve suggested a semi-perm/modular soundstage is that it can be relocated and they apparently go up quite fast and don’t require as much in terms of foundation work etc.

At what point is it more cost effective to build a shed/shell and go from there than retrofitting existing structures not intended for production space? I mean, obviously some money has been put into this reboot.

I'd like to believe that all of this came from a desire to punch out a season as soon as they were able. What is the EP's contact information? An honest letter from their viewers might work lol.

As I've said before there's a million and one ways to build a house, especially one that is purpose designed inside of a warehouse. There was absolutely no need to copy ITV. Aus used to build some pretty decent house sets.

Also, I know in the age of social media that things don't stay secret for long, but a house reveal on launch night would've gone so much further.

If the rumours about the holdback are true this is 100% a case of wanting to get a series out in 2025 by whatever means.

My assumptions about the cost benefits of using an existing space is upfront investment on top of what’s being spent on the internal structure. Not to mention time.

Like I mentioned in my previous post this hack job may work for a single series maybe even two but if they plan on getting 4 or even 5 or 6 series out of this run they’re going to need to make some investment.

I get the feeling they’re going to learn quickly that outdoor set was a mistake. Not to mention the cheap finishing in the house itself.

This is their product for their first re-attempt at the show. I think this is the theme, so to speak, we're going to get moving forward.

I was very surprised by the reel BB put out of the house but of course that’s going to look good. The videos that are emerging from people that got to go through it are showing it really does look quite cheap (which we expected), and not a structure they are planning to keep up very long. The finishes look rushed, no ceiling in the main living areas looks terrible, also the wooden beams on the roof of the bedroom look bad also. Could they not have painted them? The backyard in particular doesn’t look good.

But, they are making a tv show and their priority is to make it look good on tv. If I was a housemate going in and I saw the exposed roof like that in the living area I’m not sure how I’d react 😂

I really hope this season is enough of a success for them to build a permanent dedicated house. May be very wishful thinking as it’s 2025 not 2001. I also don’t like it being smack bang in the middle of the park. The noises they will be able to hear in the house will take away from the experience of being isolated from the outside world.

I’m not sure sending influencers through and allowing them to release their own videos of the house is a great idea. All it’s doing is exposing how rushed and seemingly cheap it is.
