One thing that I remember about the longer format BB is that you're along for the ride.It's an experience as a viewer. Checking for live updates. Watching feeds and forming opinions on housemates that form over time and can change. You can also have life get in the way, miss a bit.Jump back in.
The dynamics in the house have a lot more room to grow and change over a longer time period.
How will that go over 4 weeks? Have a busy week and you've missed 1/4 of the show.
This is how I am starting to feel too. I am losing so much faith in ten and this weekend has almost lost my complete trust in them. I'm trying to be optimistic and not let go of my excitment completly, but how can I realistically do that? I'll still watch it and try my best to enjoy it, but like we've all mentioned we have issue with BBUK because it feels over just as soon as it gets started.
A 30 day season is just going to feel as pointless as I'm a Celeb does. The event feel will be gone, the journey feeling will be gone and it will probably be 24 episodes of edited together highlights of the housemates just explaining who they are as people. It won't get any deeper than that, there will be no time for drama or storylines to manifest into something worth tuning in for.
I also expect this means at least 2 evictions per week with probably 4 live shows scattered around the week. We're probably in for a very rushed and fast paced season, instead the show's first month is where it needs the most time to breath.
I still foolishly hope this is due to the holdback, and part of me wants to be deluded and still think we're missing/interpreting something here. But the more and more we hear my heart just sinks a bit down further. Hearing about I'm a Celeb being pre-recorded, The Project being axed, this short series of BB and now JLP it makes it very hard to trust TEN right now.

I honestly wish the 4 week series was getting as much attention as JLP. They’re both very obviously connected and I feel like if fans can change one they should also be able to change the other. You’d think a network like 10 would be doing everything in their power to keep the viewers they have and be using what’s shaped up to be a highly anticipated and promising reboot of the granddaddy of modern reality TV to win the viewers they lost.

I guess once we get word on the holdback being officially over there will be more light shed. But I agree, there are two massive outragous decisions coming from TEN as of late and throw in the Project being Axed this should be way more alarming than people realise.
I guess that our community is really the only ones who are aware of the rumours surrounding Big Brother at the moment, the general fanbase probably forgot its even happening again. HYBPA and The Cheap seats refer to Mel as being the new BB host but nothing else has been mentioned in months now.

BBAU seems to be seen as a bit of a write off… to be honest given how shitty the show got even during the first 10 era I don’t blame them… But that’s all the more reason 10 need to be seen as at least attempting to get the format RIGHT. In every era we’ve been asked to make lemonade out of lemons and it’s time we put out foot down… Just give us what we want or don’t bother anymore.

Didn't they used to put the housemates in Quarantine for a week or so before they entered the house? Is that not a thing?

I now have little expectation that this season will be any better than what the Seven Network has served up in the past few years. I guess we all naively thought that because Big Brother was moving back to Ten, we might get something at least vaguely approaching the glory days of Gretel and Mike Goldman and so on from 20 years ago - silly me!
This is obviously a cost cutting sort of thing, limiting the season to 4 weeks, probably the same reason JLP has lost his gig as host of Aussie Survivor(no doubt David, or Grant Denyer or Beau Ryan would be cheaper to employ)

It wasn’t naivety everything they’ve said to date has led us to that expectation. That’s why the recent news is hitting as hard as it is.

Speaking of BBUK... 5 weeks in is when the very first season really took off in the ratings with Nasty Nick's ejection on Day 35.
It was also the time when when BB8 Australia changed back to the regular format and when the 9th series in Germany got rebooted after very lackluster ratings. It's just such a crucial timeframe for production. With just 4-5 weeks, you can't really save a failing show.. because the show is over once you realise that the ratings drop is not your regular rating drop at the beginning of any season.

So in essence a show that isn’t BB? They might as well pre-record it for all that suggestion is worth. Fans aren’t asking for a “new era” BB… Why should 10 be so hell bent of giving fans exactly what they’re NOT asking for?

It is so puzzling that they are doing this. They promoted Big Brother was going back to the original format and signified they were trying to recapture their glory days. Like you said, if they can’t do it properly, why bother at all? This is the third reboot after it has been on two other networks. This is probably the last chance for the format on FTA TV. If they want this to be a success, they need to put everything into it. The original Big Brother has the potential to rate well and run for a lot of years on 10. 10 needs this to be a success because their cupboard is looking bare. Paramount should be backing this.
And the idea it's just some kind of "pilot" series just doesn't make sense if it's not a fair reflection of what a full series might be.

Another issue with it being short is the house will never settle. I can't exactly recall what I thought early on in full seasons, but I'm pretty sure if takes a few weeks to fully get a grip on it. By this stage word of mouth will be, "This season of Big Brother is actually pretty good... it finishes next week."
People would be able to keep up persona's and fake facades for 4 weeks. We could never have classic drama like the Estelle saga.
