BB Canada shelved again

Just have to wonder how the Canadian English rights, the Canadian French rights and the Canadian rights to BBUSA are all intertwined - could another broadcaster pick up the local rights whilst Global are still showing the US version. Heck, would be fun if they picked it up then scheduled it directly against the US version!

I would assume that it's going to be a similar situation to Survivor in Australia, where Nine shows the US version and Ten produces a local version. Nine could have had the chance to produce their own version but they didn't, so they were able to sell it to Ten.

But what I'm curious about: Is there a realistic chance that a network or a streamer will pick up the show? Based on Arisa's video it sounds like Canadian media landscape is cutting down on Canadian productions in general.

Assume Crave is a streamer - and reinstating live feeds is an easy win and could drive up subscriptions.

Away from the live feeds scheduling has always been a nightmare for BB Canada having to fit around the US schedules, so often playing in the 7pm hour. As you say a streamer would avoid that problem.
It’s a streamer and a suite of premium channels which includes HBO and Starz. It’s the only Canadian service worth having a subscription to. In fact mine is included in my cable/internet package.

As for scheduling at least in the West Coast it would still be scheduled with an early evening release. The biggest difference being the ability to watch on demand at any time. On Global episodes weren’t available on demand until the following morning.

The CRTC mandates investments in Canadian content so unless there’s a massive fundamental shift in policy coming Canadian media isn’t going anywhere.

I think it’s more likely what she’s referring to is a shift from traditional broadcasting to streaming. Which is why Corus losing a significant chunk of their specialty brands is so massive. StackTV (Corus’s streaming service) relied heavily on those brands.

I think the US networks are the same with holding back streaming of episodes till the next morning - agree it's pretty dumb, especially for a show airing as early as 7pm.

I think whilst their are quotas to make as with all broadcasters around the world they're trying to fill their schedules as cheaply as possible now, so more expensive shows being replaced by cheaper content. As much as reality TV is seen as "cheap" TV compared to scripted content Big Brother is probably at the more expensive end of that market.

It really grinds my gears when commercial TV networks refuse to officially confirm a show has been cancelled, and instead leave us hanging.
Sarah reflecting on what winning BBCAN3 10 years ago (10 YEARS AGO!!!) did for her.

Time sure does fly when you are having fun, i am surprised even in Canada there are those who look down on reality TV shows and contestants.

Did you post in the wrong thread then as Corus have made it absolutely clear they have axed the show.

It’s pretty obvious he’s never even watched the show 🙄
I have watched bits and pieces of BB Canada, and liked what i saw, especially the producer announcing to the housemates of the covid pandemic.

Corus, like most TV networks, took a while to officially confirm cancellation of the show, but yes i am aware they now have made this clear to fans.

Don’t believe Corus sat on the decision for longer than they needed to considering the announcement came at a time when Corus stock went in to massive decline and the announcement that they’d be losing their content and branding deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. You’re clearly talking out your ass with any comment you make while poking your nose in to this thread.
