Big Brother back in 2025 on 10! AND LIVE!

Well duh. Sonia has always been terrible and been complained about non-stop - plus she's also contracted to Seven.

As for Gretel, she's always been distancing herself from the format since she left in 2007 (there was a story where Estelle ran into her once and got a photo with her and Gretel made her promise that if it was posted on social media, there could be zero references to BB in the post). The only time she's ever really spoken about it was when it just so happened that when she was doing press after The Masked Singer AU was airing in 2019 and Seven's revival was announced at the same time and so she ended up being somewhat forced into talking about BB publicly for the first time in years. The lack of consideration for 2025 would've absolutely been mutual.
I think Gretel is best left behind from the new era of Big Brother.

As is Sonia. A new host unknown to the franchise is what is needed. There is no baggage or stigma from any past production efforts attached to someone new. I am pleased they did not even pick an ex housemate actually - someone new and fresh but is a fan of BB. Will hopefully be authentic and down to earth - like taking someone from here and making them the host!

I totally agree. Even when Seven picked the show up we hoped they would cast a new host, but nope. It's like 10 is starting all over like they did in 2001, with a fresh, enthusiastic host, but also giving us what the fans have been begging for ever since Nine's version. We've always wanted authentic BBAU back, with live streams and audience voting, where we are all connected to, and part of the show. Seven's format was the antithesis of everything BB was supposed to be, and the ratings confirmed that. I can't wait for the new, old Big Brother.

Gretel was instrumental in setting the tone for viewers, getting the show off the ground and creating an identity around the brand as a whole in its early seasons and Mel Tracina has the chops to do the same in her own way and for a different audience as well, I’m really excited to see how Mel goes

If Gretel ever did step back into hosting reality tv it should be with a format like The Traitors imo

Yes, she did it while it was still on air. They had a little message form her on the final show with her being all dressed up on the stage of the Rocky Horror Show.

It took me a little while to actually realise who Mel Tracina was after the announcment was made, but then remembered her from the cheap seats which I actually enjoy her on. I think she's going to bring a great new youthful energy to the show. It makes complete sense to have an unknown person present, makes it feel more like a reset. A literal new era. And it just seems logical to have a host whose going to be closer in age to the bulk of the cast, rather than having a 60 year old.

Absolutely. We're seeing that with Will and AJ on BBUK - they're bringing something fresh to it that Davina or Emma could no longer offer and don't have the baggage of their predecessors, but also have enough knowledge of the history of the show to be able to reference back as necessary too. The completely pointess (and almost always has been) "Please Do Not Swear" line in the eviction announcements pretty much only continues as a nod to Davina, but AJ has now completely made it her own.

Sonia pretty much only hosted the Seven version because they signed her to the network with nothing to do really and didn't have anyone else obvious to put forward for the job, and weren't willing to look beyond the obvious. In her defence I do think Sonia suited the role she had on Seven much more than the role she had on Nine, but on the Ten relaunch we need someone who can handle live television and interact directly with other human beings.

Maybe if 9 unshackled Sonia from the autocue then she may have had a chance to develop her impromptu tv presenting skills.

The thing is Gretel was an interesting person, and Sonia is kinda beige in the personality department. Gretel was unhinged her pre-season interviews with Rove but somehow you wanted to keep listening..

Sonia wasn’t bad when she was doing Mornings on 9 but even then I don’t think she has what it takes to really get under the housemates skin in an interview like Gretel was able to.

10 is taking a massive risk by bringing in a brand new host, in todays tv landscape it’s not easy bringing in new talent and for them to actually succeed.. that’s why the networks generally stick to well seasoned personnel..

I personally think Gretel would’ve been a great choice for the reboot, she has the skills that no one can match.. I’d argue she is actually the queen of tv! not even Sonia can match her level.. nor Karl, Lisa, Julia, Rove and the likes..

Aside from the fact that she has decisively moved on long ago, it was plain to see she was already over it in her later seasons. 10 has made absolutely the right choice here. We don't need a jaded 61yo hosting; it's time for fresh blood.

Gretel could be a bit of a prick while hosting which is why she was dumped at the end of the 2007 Big Brother season.

As great as Gretel is and was, I don’t think BB in 2025 would work with her. It’s been far too long since her final season - 18 years in 2025. The youths have absolutely no idea who she is. They need to bring fresh blood in to appease the new generation.

Disagree. They need new blood because wiping the slate clean is simply the right thing to do in this context. I don't think this so called "new generation" would really know the difference or care either way.

Also I really don't think the "new generation" is where 10's focus should be... They should be focused on winning back the OG's, if they can get us on-board, a big enough marketing push, and a grassroots social media presence everything else will fall in to place. IMO ITV's biggest failure will always be trying too hard to impress new younger viewers/modern audiences and not doing enough to win back some of the audience BB once had.

I agree. If focus is put onto winning back those in their 30s-50s who watched big brother initially then the hype will result in the youths joining in.

Also take in to account that in it's prime BB's main critics were parents while in 2025 I think the shoe would be on the other foot. Could you imagine how many times I'd have been cancelled, dox'd, publicly shamed, and crucified if I'd have said some of the things I said to you today?

"You wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me"

Also you can see in the final product how ITV's mandate the BB have "modern audience" appeal has limited the series and/or been to it's determent.
