Shark Tank 2018

Returns tonight! :)

Hopefully I’ll be able to do the episode reviews each week like last year.

...I'll be watching it too SeanE... it's a great show... and... please do the reviews if you can because they make my day to see someone else's perspectives on some of the stuff that they present... and you always do it quite well too my friend... cheers.

I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts:

Yeah I thought coconut bowls were a bit of a joke too, but he’s got some serious money coming in. With a $3 million projected turnover he could really just sit back and live off the $80 grand he pays himself. Maybe even give himself a payrise to $100k...

I think the sharks saw that he was also getting the veggie crowd and alties with the bowls just being the ‘grab’ that will bring in the patrons to which they can then sell a bunch of other crap to. Anyway, he got his deal so good on him. I’ll stick to my usual ceramic bowls though.

Maaaate (It’s your shout)...

During their presentation I thought they were a home handyman setup, which is just “Hire a Hubby” or ‘Jim’s > insert franchise business type here<‘. Then it turned out to be just another micro brewery and there are literally thousands of those in every second shed in Australia.

Their costs of production are huge. $72.50 a carton?!...! This booze ought to come in gold plated diamond studded cans because it wouldn’t add much to the overall costs. Good thing the sharks bailed.

Bistro Boy:

C’mon, he’s basically just ripping off Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I’m surprised they haven’t lodged a C&D and trademark violation on him.

They were all bedazzled by his age and that he fed them pure sugar. But when it came to the deal they’re their usual ‘gouge him for all he’s got’. 42% and 30%... gawd... Counter offer of 20% was pretty ballsy but Janine was standing firm at 33%. So, no deal but he got a mentor in her at least. I reckon she’ll continue to push for a deal privately and inside the next year they’ll do deal around the 30% mark. Krispy Kreme lawyers take note and get your lawsuits locked and loaded...

Truly gifted:

Fun gifts that give people a laugh but to me it sounded like just about anything you can buy down at “Thingz” at the local Westfield shopping center. Still she’s making good money with only word of mouth online and yes, I looked up the website during the ad break. (This show is going to be a major advertisement for her)

Heaps of offers and all reasonable amounts. I was torn between Naomi’s offer of $250k all up and Glen’s offer to introduce her to Amazon, which if they picked her up would be just huge. Yay for Naomi at the end of the day!

Glen was right btw... she wore red because she wanted to go with Naomi all the time. This lady knew what she was subliminally doing...

...that's a great review SeanE as per usual... I feel the same as you about 'Bistro Boy and Truly gifted'... they are just tapping into already established companies products and are just ripping off their ideas... no originality whatsoever in my opinion... and the coconut bowl guy making shitloads of money on his idea with a recycled item is killing it isn't he?... good luck to him but I would never use them... as you said... ceramic bowls for me too thankyou...

...and seriously... what were those guys thinking with their micro brewery?... and who on this Earth would pay that much for a carton of beer?... that price is ridiculous... sorry... but for an opening episode of the season I felt that their selections of 'entrepreneurs' were quite lacklustre this time around... in fact... I actually got a tad bit bored by the time 'Truly gifted' came on... not a great episode at all for me this time around... I hope the next few shows are more 'exciting'... again... great review SeaneE... in fact... it was more entertaining than the show itself in my opinion... great work my friend... cheers.

...wow!... that was an eye opener wasn't it?... thanks for posting it oddjob... cheers.

Gosh! Rich guys are bastards to the poor... who’d have guessed?

Even though I’m sure the legals have covered this behind the scenes in appearance contracts, but wouldn’t an agreement in the show constitute a verbal contract?..?

The real strike rate isn’t as good as you think.

Not much better than Married at First Sight.

4 out of 27 deals made on the show going ahead is a freaking farce.

On one hand, I am totally shocked by this. On the other hand I always wondered how the sharks would hand over a good amount of money without the businesses showing detailed financial information. I always assumed this must happen behind the scenes before the pitch or something.

Just (more) desserts

Another gift box service. Second one in two weeks. Looks like this idea will be this year’s “App” product.

The 3 of them certainly have the professional background each to manage a business. Marketing, Operations and HR are the crux of any business, so the sharks are pretty happy with their business acumen. But it’s just another gift box service... Its trendy now, but in 2 years? Anyway, they’re funded so good on them.

T for two

Untested menopause tea bags? Glen was right it was and is bullshit. But the women were sympathetic and she got Janine onboard... BUT!... it’s all subject to a 300 person ‘scientific trial’ and if the results aren’t absolutely conclusive then I bet Janine quietly pulls the pin on her and she’ll have nothing.

Ooh Baby...

These baby dolls aren’t really anything new. They’re artists model figurines made larger. They’ve just found some other places to sell them.

Their numbers were dodgy as hell and he faffed around with numbers he seemed to be picking out of the air. I’m surprised they got any offers from any of them. But again they faffed about. Steve gave them exactly what they asked for and claims he has the contacts in medicine in the USA... but they go with Andrew and Glen...? Anyway, Steve is pissed so there’s the big promo we’ve been seeing all week. Kind of a let down about why and how he was so pissed though.

A Square Deal.

Micro shelf space for rent. If you can’t afford a full sized shop then sublet some of his space and flog your stuff there. Meanwhile he gets a cut for essentially doing very little himself.

This would probably be huge in Japan...

And the sharks start to bail because yeah, it’s a pretty complicated model and he was asking for a lot of money for only a small percentage. Plus Steve really stumped him with the keep it it flip it question. But Steve likes his answer of ‘eventually at the right time’ so he got the deal. They just loved the girl and her sales spiel and personality as well. Maybe Steve is more interested in poaching her for his other businesses?

Great summary!

I am also certain that the menopause tea lady isn't going to see a cent of Janine's money.

I'm watching. These guys have confused me. They have spent $350,000 on personal development?

...that's money spent on porno movies and strip clubs most likely FatPants... who spends that much money on 'personal development'?... what does it even mean?... what a pair of twonks!... cheers.

...SeanE always does great summaries on the show FatPants... they are more interesting to read than watching the show itself at times... I always look forward to them... he always does a great job with them lol!... cheers.

...oooooh!... that poster says "quick FLICK" not... quick f... oh okay!... moving on... cheers.
