Episode Australian Survivor (2016) - Episode 26 FINALE Discussion

So is it likely or possible tha Kristie knew all along how much the jury hated Lee and that's why she made her choices?
 
Well the end to that episode was pretty damn hilarious, made up for some of the weak points (though obviously not all).

Nice to see the 'Fallen Heroes' part and without the reunion part it was needed anyway, I just wish we'd had last words from all.

Then the families introduced, skipped over this near the beginning and when they were wheeled out again at the end.

Cheapo final challenge, the setting was good sure, but for the last two challenges the US one often puts more effort in, with a great set. Neither of the last two had great sets. The idea of having a hand on an idol was good I guess and it had drama obviously, with them all close together. Kristie did sound rather pathetic to be honest, would have preferred the begging to have ended quicker.

On the single vote, it was no surprise of course but it also seemed given away by the camera at the urn. I saw Kristie do a single straight line and then two horizontal. Bad editing truly, keep the reveal to the announcement.

Then Lee. Oh dear, what a disaster he was. First he says this was the first Australian Survivor, or maybe that's what the channel want people to think? But the tribal...well it looked like he was throwing it. Or did he think it was so easy he didn't even have to try? He said he had two points and he only made one, the usual thing about wanting to be honest/good. Then that hilariously got taken apart by Nick and someone else. The only answers he could give were that he was loyal to 'his alliance at the time' and then later that he failed in trying to be honest. He may as well have added that he failed at this tribal. Kristie was hilariously prepared for everything, except perhaps Matt at the end who said she was all over the place.

So a hilarious ending to a rather botched season. I'll take it, it's better then what seemed likely after the last few episodes.

Of course, but that's the game I suppose. She kind of bluffed it, Lee didn't bother one little bit at tribal and it was hers. I think she won at tribal as much for the cheekiness of it all really and how he looked so pathetic in comparison.
 
Well, well, well... probably the best reality show finale I've seen in years.

Lets begin with the Immunity channel and my thought throughout most of that is why on earth is El bothering - whatever happens she'll be making final two. But then she went and Kristie really did make a plea for her dreams - and that really got to me. I also believed every word was genuine - it wasn't just a move to make Lee step down and she had every intention of honouring that deal, knowing that she'd be respected more for taking the stronger threat to the final 2 than taking the easier route. Indeed El arguably had more friends on the jury anyway.

No doubt that Kristie won it hands down at tribal council and although I agree she maybe scripted the story a bit in her favour it is worth noting that she played an individual game throughout, never part of a solid alliance and always moving to where was best for her, even if often making the "big move" (always a move to benefit others more than her though) would have been seemingly the easier short term option. And after the accusations of Lee manipulating her I think it's fair to say she enabled that to happen and used it to her advantage - he had the influence to protect her so she was the last in line of the non-Sanapu eliminees to face the axe - and when they got to the point where she should have gone he turned on Sanapu. If anyone has 26 hours to spare it might be interesting to rewatch the series knowing the outcome and see how differently you view Kristie as a result.

The 8-1 victory was much deserved and actually I'm glad we didn't have a reunion episode - it was great just to end the series on a high rather than dredge up all the post-series bickering. That can come out in the next few days, but tonight it was all about Kristie. Really didn't expect that outcome but it was so damn satisfying, and indeed apart from a lack of scenes of them back at the beach following Flick's elimination and then between the Immunity Challenge and Tribal Council it was pretty much a perfect episode, and so much better in a produced as it happened manner rather than trying to turn it into a live show.

Kristie's moralising at the very end was a bit tedious, the kind of thing put in American shows. Her plea to Lee at the challenge sounded pathetic, made me cringe. She made up plenty in her speech for sure, Kate for instance saved her over Phoebe.

But if you don't take it that seriously then you can have a laugh at it and enjoy how articulate she was and how she diverted the questions hilariously. And of course most didn't want Lee to win.

Lee was more incompetent than Kristie could have imagined, he handed it to her. She did make bad moves in the last few episodes and that can't really be disguised. I wonder if they had seen her plea to Lee at the challenge what the jury would have thought.

Congratulations Kristie. Still not convinced she's the mastermind she made out at times, but hey, she got there, and clearly applied strategy and grit to do it, although her play seemed very risky in some instances, with a bit of luck involved too.

Her emotional pleading and begging to Lee looked like a stroke of brilliance in one respect....but it was god awful to watch. Ewwww. Although he might have fallen, I think her gnawing away at him mentally very likely contributed to his downfall. I do agree the pleading was genuine at the same time too. And her handling of the jury was brilliant. Comparatively it was like...well no comparison. Who is that block of wood? Entitled and unprepared. Yes.

Interesting that she demonstrated it doesn't have to be all about bold moves (although I'd personally prefer to watcht that)...as she said "subtle". With that point, I think a few lights went on among the jury members. It might have been the most persuasive point that sealed the deal for a few votes. Well done Kristie. Enjoy the winnings.

The All "Star" Family Feud looks to have selected a bunch of players no one particularly liked ie. El, Lee, Phoebe, Rohan. They missed some of the best players or characters, Pete, Kate, Nick, Matt and most importantly, Craig.

Looks like it's
Vavau: Conner, Phoebe, Rohan, Sue vs Sanapu: Lee, El, Sam, Brooke

In other words, go Vavau!

Dream Teams should have been:
Sue (captain), Craig, Kristie, Matt
Pete (captain), Flick, Nick, Kate

I had preshow faves picked out, based on things they said in ads and their profiles, but from ep one Kristie has been my favourite. She said some self-aware and self-deprecating things in a talking head and I decided I liked her, so I have had her in my sights for the entire series.

It baffled me how people were writing her off as a donothing and a weirdo, when I saw her sitting back and taking in all the information and biding her time and lying in that flat dull voice to people so full of themselves and their own power they take the most wooden agreement as going along with their bright plans. She's always had her own game - but I never thought she'd make it to the final two with Lee and El as her opposition, so I am just STOKED!:biggrin:

Also, as an introvert, I can see the situation from that viewpoint easily and know that what to regulars (who suddenly become introverts when you point out the number of great artists, writer, and inventors who are introverts!) seems abnormal social behaviour is in fact a valuable perception and information-gathering tool. Her face gave away a lot, but in subtle expressions. She was so passionate for the game and her place in it. Compared to the sit back, braid hair, and look smug of the dominant female alliance, who hadn't had to fight for their places, she was always going to be wound tight as a spring, with a thousand mental machinations and computations going on - but having to lay low and appease, etc.

That was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life as a Survivor fan, seeing her game play out and in the end WIN!
 
You can be a shy introvert, a gregarious introvert, an extreme introvert. Many of the world's famous actors and comedians, rock stars etc are introverts. It's a modality for processing information and energy, basically - not whether or not you are sociable, funny, friendly.
 
That is definitely one of the best final tribal performances of all time - up there with Todd, JT and Chris. She did what The Specialist should have done.

Wow. One of the best finales. After screaming at my TV for 3 episodes that performance totally redeemed the series. Watching the faces of the jury was a delight. I am euphoric with a sense of 'childlike glee.'

They stuck the landing.

Do you know of Susan Cain's "Quiet"? It shifts the goal posts really well on a society, that as she argues, essentially values extraversion over introversion.

Yep. Have read them all! The most helpful one was "The Introvert Advantage" by Marti Olsen Laney, in explaining the biological side of what was going on, but my all time favourite is Anneli Rufus' "Party of One".

We were all so frustrated with her.
I asked before if she knew what we didn't, that at least some of the jury hated Lee as a player and would not vote for him. She had a better chance against him than she did against Flick or even Matt.

The feeling of the jury against Lee surprised me. But I agree she had an awesome performance.
 
I think what swayed the jury the most in Kristie's favour was that she totally owned her gameplay. She not only admitted her part in voting them all out, she was proud of it. There were no grovelling apologies or begging for their vote, and no tears.
Lee, on the other hand, stuck to his claims that he played an honest, moral game, and refused to acknowledge his affect on anyone else.
As (mostly) fans of the game, the jury gave Kristie their respect.
