Maybe they heard you saying Year of Disaster too many times.

I got:
Learn something new. Ha! What do they think I have been doing all year??!
lol I got learn something new too - in the last year and a bit I have done a diploma, a cert II and cert IV (all in different topics) plus some specialised software certifications- I was hoping for a study free few months actually!

so you can have weird talk?

are you allowed to talk about politics or religion at a dinner party? or is that a no go?[DOUBLEPOST=1451214820][/DOUBLEPOST]

no. i don't think so.

It depends entirely on your guests. Honestly, there are no crazy rules beyond basic social decorum and making sure your guests are well fed and have enough to drink if they so desire. Conversation topics should come naturally, I tend to prefer more vapid topic on this setting but if it goes to socio-political stuff that's ok too as long as no one takes it too seriously/personally.

I don't mind conversation, as long as it is not about myself.

You have had a busy year! Well done on all the educational achievements.

I agree that the socio/political is a risk - it can go well but I would avoid if you know people in the room have very opposing views and they may not respect the views of others in the room (imagine this forum in the argumentative times, but in person!)[DOUBLEPOST=1451215832][/DOUBLEPOST]

I think in real life people would be a lot less hostile, and a lot more things would be left unspoken I think.

If reepbot is invited to a surprise 'dinner' party, he should pack his toothbrush, slippers and one framed picture of Tina Arena with blunt corners.
