lol I got learn something new too - in the last year and a bit I have done a diploma, a cert II and cert IV (all in different topics) plus some specialised software certifications- I was hoping for a study free few months actually!

It depends entirely on your guests. Honestly, there are no crazy rules beyond basic social decorum and making sure your guests are well fed and have enough to drink if they so desire. Conversation topics should come naturally, I tend to prefer more vapid topic on this setting but if it goes to socio-political stuff that's ok too as long as no one takes it too seriously/personally.

Often I walk away from conversations fearing I did nothing but talk about myself, and I am not generally that interesting to talk about. Are you planning to host a dinner party sometime?
If all the forum were at reepbots dinner party, I would be the drink thrower, I think?

I think in real life people would be a lot less hostile, and a lot more things would be left unspoken I think.
