TINA Arena put the chic in checkout chick during a stellar stint selling her own album at JB HiFi.

As well as a standard CD signing session, Arena worked the cash register and stocked her new album Eleven on shelves at JB HiFI’s Elizabeth Street store in Melbourne on Friday.

“The registers were awfully complicated,” Arena said. “When you’re in a situation like this you realise you can’t make mistakes.”

Growing up before Australia as a child star on Young Talent Time, Arena missed the usual circuit of teenage jobs.

“I was never a check out chick, but after Young Talent Time I got a job filing for an insurance company. Growing up people would always say ‘You’ll never know what it’s like to work a nine to five job’. So that’s exactly what I did. And I lasted about four months, I realised it wasn’t for me but at least I had a taste for it. I have an incredible respect for people that follow a routine every day. My job is beyond nine to five, it’s 24/7.”

Next month Arena’s stellar career will be celebrated as she is inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

The singer has still yet to decide if she will perform at the event, and has no clue who will induct her.

“Maybe Kylie (Minogue) if she’s around? Or someone like Keith (Urban) or Hugh (Jackman)? I’d like it to be someone who knows me. I haven’t written a speech yet. I’m not sure if I will. I feel I need to speak from the heart.”

Arena turns 48 on Sunday, with her boyfriend Vincent and son Gabriel arriving back from France for the occasion.

“It’ll just be a quiet day with the family,” Arena said.

“I don’t understand all the emphasis placed on age. I don’t endorse that criticism that comes with age, regardless of being a female artist in an industry that when you’re in your forties people ask themselves certain questions. I’m perplexed about why they’d ask themselves those questions.”

Arena is also planning to spend less time in France so son Gabriel, now nine, can go to high school in Melbourne.

“He’ll grow up and be educated here,” Arena said. “It’s time.”

The singer also confirmed she was aware Scott Morrison was her biggest fan in federal Parliament.

“He’s a man, regardless of his job,” Arena said of the Treasurer and former Immigration Minister behind the controversial Stop the Boats campaign.

“He’s a husband, he’s a father and he enjoys my music, which is a beautiful compliment. He’s got a big gig, that’s a tough gig, I wouldn’t want that job.”

Eleven is already in the iTunes Top 10, with Arena joining the bill for Simply Red’s A Day on the Green tour next year.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. wowsie wow wow wow.

But La Tina in the JB-Hi-Fi store! I mean if Lynda Day had made an appearance I would have fainted! With joy!

Update on bin gate - turns out my neighbours are dyslexic and took mine in instead on theirs. So lucky I didn't call the council for another bin because then I would have to get rid my old bin now and have two bins to deal with. But thank you. BTW I hope your Mum is ok

I don't dislike her and would consider her new album, but consider Reepbot's obsession as overkill :) She's always been a good vocalist, moreso than many of the youngsters around these days. Young Talent Time didn't slouch on talent, from someone who watched the first episode. To be fair too, she's someone who's doing the getting older process well. @reepbot, you have a rival - Scott Morrison.

Are you really a fan @reepbot??? A true fan would be going to st least one of those shows, if not more.

Maybe there will be a competition you can win.
