Oh I worked at an Indian restaurant briefly when I was a teenager and for ages no one ordered a coffee, I mean who wants one with curry anyway, then suddenly everyone started ordering them. I made one once that was slightly brown water at which point I outsorced it to the customers. They made better coffee than me, so why not.

Melbourne is too cool for everyone. Or, at least it thinks it is.

Oh yeah, I get that. Maybe my pseudo-hipster ways will fit in after all.

My friend is a barista and she apparently makes good coffee, but I don't know what that means. She's always getting frustrated with people at cafes. Apparently Melbourne is the only place that can produce a good "proper coffee." It's all so confusing to me.

I used to work in a TAB and I sometimes had to make people coffee. It was pointless though, because I didn't even know what it was supposed to look like, let alone taste like. Plus the machine freaked me out and I exploded milk all over the place dozens of times. Every time they told me to make coffee I would tell them that I had no idea what I was doing but they still made me do it.

It's confusing to me too. Coffee just seems like coffee to me, but I have heard of people getting really into their coffee and being like 'I'm not really myself until I have a cup of coffee!'. Like they are really into their coffee.

Are you referring to the weather or too hip?

Too hip. I love the cold Melbourne weather!

Yeah, I I think that's the best way to go. The friend I mentioned earlier often asks if she can jump behind the counter at cafes. :hilarious:

Yeah, I don't really get that at all. It sounds quite scary, actually. I guess it's one of those "routine" things though.

A routine? Well I guess we all have those in a way. Breaking out of a routine, such as coffee in the morning, would be a very hard thing to do.

And you are right that reliance on coffee does seem a bit scary.

Today I had to kill a bird... Let me explain...
I went outside to plant my thyme that I got at the markets, as I went outside my cat Milo came out as well. He ran off towards the back fence, I went to the shead to get my gloves and a spade. As I was looking for the best spot to plant the thyme I notice Milo pounce onto something that was behind the basil bush, so I walked over to see what Milo had and he stars running off towards the back door with a bird hanging out of his mouth. Thank god the back door was shut otherwise Milo woukd havr taken the bird inside. Anyway I raced over to him, picked him up and slightly shook him so he dropped the bird, then I quickly chucked Milo inside and had a look at the bird, I could tell that the bird was not going to make it and I wanted to make sure the bird did not suffer so I chopped off his head.... Was that the right thing to do? I could have taken the bird to the vet, but why would I pay good money to help some random bird?

What's the difference between a hipster and a pseudo-hipster?

I am terrified of birds so would be a blithering mess. I think you did the right thing. Your cat didn't!

Well my cat does not know the difference between right or wrong, all he knows is he likes trying to catch birds and today he finally got one, then the bloody human took it away!

Why are you scared of birds? I guess if a bird attacked me I would be afraid, but today with the bird just lying there I was not scared.

I was being a bit facetious re the cat. He just did the instinctive thing. I have been terrified of birds since I was a toddler. A few times of being chased by bantams at my great aunt's when I was small, a budgie sitting on my head as a toddler and assorted other incidents. I am ok with chickens (except bantams) and ducks now.

I had to look up what a bantam is. So it's a type of chicken. For me I can't recall being around birds that much when I was a kid, I got chased by a big scary dog when I was little and for a long time I was afraid of dogs.... now I just don't like them LOL.

I, for some reason, had it in my head that houses that had like really lousy fences probably housed savage doggie beasties that would chase me and eat me as though I was made of sausages. I'm still a bit apprehensive and scared of big dogs, especially if they are off leash because you are not sure how much control the owner has over their dog.

Yeah I never totally understood that full on can't-function-without-coffee type of addiction, I think surely in those cases it's at least habitual. I know in my past life as a smoker I had a routine with it that was rarely interrupted but if it was then I just didn't smoke. Surely it's similar for lots of so-called coffee addicts.

Being swooped by a magpie, especially if they seem to be out to get just you, is awful, and emus can be pretty scary too.

Emus are EVIL. I swear. Don't you think they have a evil look in their eyes? I genuinely fear getting chased by one, it seems avoidable but still a reasonable enough fear.

Ever heard of this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emu_War#The_first_attempt

I think it's just an excuse for people to be grumpy and rude in the morning.

Hey @Inigo Montoya you definitely did the right thing with the bird, full credit for being so brave as I can never bring myself to even squish a dying bug even though it's far more humane long term.

I think killing some bug or animal that's dying is better because at least their pain won't further prolonged any more.

Over 20 years ago I borrowed my then boyfriend's car which was a sports car, took the roof things off and took his younger brother for a drive to Tower Hill, just out of Warrnambool. There are emus there and they were getting a bit close so we hightailed it back to the car to escape them. We forgot the roof was off and an emu stuck his head over the top of the windows. We couldn't stop laughing and yes, they have evil looking eyes. All birds do.

1. No I have not and that link sounds awful I don't think I will be looking.

2. Yes I think you're right, as if people need am excuse.

3. 100% agree, much more humane I just can't do it. Luckily the need to do it rarely occurs.

I agree in that it's habitual and an excuse for the grumpiness :)
