I guess it is good that you are not alone in your fears, that you and your fellow classmates are all human with the same fears and desires.

For me I have rarely felt anxious about writing anything because I mostly just write for myself. But I can see how the pursuit of perfection can cripple the creative mind.

By bad writing do you mean poor spelling, sentence structure, and grammar? Or poor writing as in it reads like something a drunk donkey typed out on a treadmill machine?

Haha, I guess both! For me though it's more that I try to get everything "right" in the first draft, and I tend to edit as I go, which isn't the best way to go about it. It's important and easier in the long run just to get it all out while you can and then go back and fix everything up. For some reason it got in my head that if it wasn't a masterpiece the first time around there was no saving it, which is far from the reality of the situation.

I tend to write mostly for myself too (although I'm obviously working on that changing!) but even then I feel this internal pressure. It's really silly. For example right now I have about three short stories I'm working on, and just knowing that the documents on my computer are messy and incomplete makes me feel very uncomfortable.

By the way, I really enjoy the stories you post on here.

With the short stories that you are working on, are they for class or just something that you like to do in your own time?

Thank you for your kind words in regards to my stories. I just write them out without really bothering to properly editing them. I like to think of an idea and just go from there. My favourite part of writing is writing dialogue. I believe that good dialogue is like a tennis matc.

The ones I'm working on are just for me, although I'm thinking of maybe submitting one of them for an assignment, even though I feel like that's cheating slightly since I started it before the course. I have to submit two completed stories by the end of the semester on top of several other assignments so it'll come down to time management. I'll see how I go.

You're welcome! Good dialogue needs to be authentic, if nothing else. I'm not very good at dialogue because I feel like the characters all end up sounding the same, but we were actually working on dialogue in class this week and I think I made some improvements, which I'm happy about.

I worked in a bakery for 7 years. I love the smell of freshly baked bread.

That shit they bake at subway smells nothing like freshly baked bread!!
Always thought the dough must come in little cans with Play Doh on the label.

BTW, Good luck!!!

Of course! Everyone, gay or straight, should go at least once IMO.

In fact I first went when I was 8. Which leads me to my heartwarming story for the day.

Some background first. My grandparents have always been unashamed socialists but also very devout Catholics, in particular my abuela. She would tell me again and again that one of the most important lessons God taught us was to always be honest, because it was the lies and deception of the serpent that led to the fall of man.

So anyway my family and I went down to Sydney to visit my grandparents for the start of Lent and we decided to go out for dinner one night and ended up at some restaurant just off Oxford St. And it just so happened that our waiter was trans and me being the clueless 8-year-old that I was asked 'Why is that man dressed like a girl!?' to which my abuela replied 'because they're being honest' and explained to me that some people are different and that that wasn't a bad thing. That weekend I went, with my family, to my very first mardi gras.

As I got older and began to come to terms with my own sexuality I would often think back to what my abuela said that night and it was probably her words that gave me the strength to come out. I suspected that she said what she did exactly for that reason so a few years back I asked her and she told me she said it because it was the truth, a truth she thought one day I might need.
Just beautiful to read. Thank you for sharing @Consuela

@mutleyp will be so proud of me! I bought a pair of skinny white jeans! That's the good news. The bad news is, I got them for $7 at Big W. It sort of sucks any possible hipsterness straight out of them. :(

Big W is an unbelievable place. My microwave died yesterday, and we popped in on our way home today and got a microwave for $149!!

Do the two stories have to be a certain word length?

The one for my short story class has a minimum of 1500 words (which I'll be fine with because a lot of my short stories exceed 3000 words), and I can't really remember what the minimum is for my fiction elements class, but I assume it's the same or similar. Although now that I think about it, for my fiction elements class we can either submit a completed short story or the first three chapters of a novel, and obviously three chapters would be much more than 1500 words, so maybe the short story word minimum is larger just to make it fair.

1500 words? That is a decent amount. Goood luck with it. I'm going to see if I can write a 1500 word story tonight, because most of my stories have just been about 600 words.

Outrageous! My budget for Napisan would far exceed $7. But I always say, every gurl should rock white jeans, as a priceless reminder of the red wine inside her, and hope they don't part at the seams.
