Last movie you saw

I saw The Wedding Ringer last night. Very funny.
I heard that movie was funny. I'll definitely have a look at it but I think I'll wait to see it on Blu-ray. I know Kevin Hart is in the movie.

Kevin was in a movie called "Soul Plane". I actually think it may be one of his first movies. Very funny movie.

I haven't seen Soul Plane but i'll have to check it out. Kevin Hart is an absolute crack up lol.

Has anyone checked out the SBS on demand movies? They have over 500, lots in English if you aren't into subtitles.

I just finished Beginners with Ewan McGregor, which was sweet, but a little slow; and before that I watched the Wood Allen movie Vicky Cristina Barcelona with Scarlett Johansson and Penélope Cruz, which I quite liked.

Sorry if I'm repeating info, but it is well worth a look.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

Early on in the film there's a lot of setting up the world and the characters. It's never boring, never slow but you are very well aware it is just setting things up. There are some great sequences but the film really gets by on Colin Firth being amazingly charismatic and entertaining. Mathew Vaughn is a very talented director for making entertaining comic book films but I couldn't help but feel it lack the frenetic relentless stand out moments a film like Kick Ass had. However by the time the third act gets around and the bad guys plot takes center stage. Everything changes and this quite enjoyable film because fucking awesome. The young new recruit who you were a bit unsure of early on, you really like. Which is probably be design. The frenetic action and humor is there in spades. Kicked off by an amazing stand out action scene with Colin Firth that will ensure you buy the film on blu-ray to watch again. The film goes balls to the walls and was one of the best times I have had in a cinema for a long time. All that set up pays off. I really do hope this film does well enough to make a sequel.

I have no idea why.... But I actually really want to see Fifty Shades of Grey, I don't know how I would go in a cinema filled with middle aged women, Online Streaming Perhaps???

If all Christian women take heed of the many articles going around, they won't be going to see the movie. Speaking as a middle aged woman with a Christian faith, and I'm not meaning Christian Grey, I'd be going to see what the fuss was about and to hell with the articles. I am going anyway because I have a mind that can make itself up, not be told not to.

Yep, I thought it was terrific too. I had heart palpitations for the entire film but in the good way.

I might just go and see 50 shades after work today. I can be at the cinema just after 4pm.

Did you end up seeing it? I've heard it's hilariously bad but I'm still curious and contemplating seeing it for that very reason lol.

I did. It's much tamer than the book. Think Sex and the City Samantha level of sex. I suppose with a rating of MA15+ it wasn't going to be too racy.
I wouldn't say it's bad but she is very annoying. She was annoying in the book too. The best bit for me, apart from his apartment and some great aerial shots of the cities, was Officer Doug from Dawson's Creek. An all too brief appearance. I laughed out loud in a few places too. No idea which ones though.

Well Jupiter's Ascending was a bit of a disappointment.

Everyone keeps going on about Kingsmen so I'm going to try and catch it later this week.

Films I have watched over the past week:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - Great film. Loved the elevator scene.

The Lego Movie- Ok movie. Liam Neeson was the standout.

The Holcroft Covenant- Allright movie.

The Song of Bernadette- Great movie. Oscar winning performance by Jennifer Jones.

Beverly Hills Cop- Allright but dated movie. Eddie Murphy the standout in this film that was originally meant for Sylvester Stallone.

Singin' in the rain- Awesome film. Wonderful songs. Gene Kelly was a great dancer.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind- Fascinating concept film. Winslet and Carrey are great. Although I had trouble really connecting to this film due to my inexperience in the movie's subject matters.

Jupiter Ascending

I for the life of me don't really get why this film is shit on so much. It's the sort of film that of course won't be for everyone's tastes. I think it's just one of those films that people decided was 'bad' and so they can only view it through a lens of the film being bad. I have read so many comments about how terrible it is. That I almost didn't go see it.

The reason I saw it is because I like big science fiction / fantasy action adventure stuff with good visuals. So I thought, 'there may be enough of that to make it worth while.' I totally expected the film to be as crappy, dumb and atrocious as comments I had seen. However none of the crappy and atrocious stuff was there. It was a big over the top entertaining science fantasy film that delivered what I wanted. It is no atrocious. It is not crappy. The film looks great and is well shot. It feels like they edited some scenes out for time that were necessary, which is my main complaint. The story is interesting. The settings are interesting. The whole giant millions year old galactic civilization thing we see bits of is great.

Struggling with the negative comments, there is nothing more 'dumb' or 'stupid' in this than any big budget special effects action film we get these days. It just seems this film, like a film like John Carter (a better film than this), it got labelled with being awful, dumb and bad before people ever saw it. If you go into the film with that in mind, of course it may seem dumb. All these films are though. The Hulk? Iron Man, hell that last captain America film had a nazi's conscience in 1970s computers. Dumber than anything in this. Yet those films people give suspension of disbelief for. This, a lot of people won't.

It seems a lot of people like to demonstrate their movie watching brilliance by shitting on films and being negative. It's why those terrible 'cinema sins' or 'Everything wrong with....' videos that nit pick movies to the dumbest possible level are popular. This film, there for some reason, like with John Carter, a general view which then gave people permission to shit all over it and so many do.

The film doesn't deserve it. Will you like it, I don't know. Did I like it yes. I like great looking, well designed fantasy films with good action, great visuals and an interesting story. I actually think the story was too complicated for the level of attention required those going into the film to hate, or with out an open mind to follow.

All I would say is, if a big space opera action adventure film is something that you like and don't have to take too seriously, then you'll probably like it. It's no worse than any of these other films, people just decided it was and never gave it a chance.

I loved the story and setting of Jupiters and would read the shit out of a book series based on the film. But for me I think the idea was too big for a single film. The Wachowskis are so good at world building that they just couldn't fit it into the one film. I also found some of the fight scenes a bit gratuitous and long winded and sometimes the score just didn't seem to fit in with the scene. The effects were great and the acting was fine. If anything Eddie Redmayne gave my least favourite performance.

I was disappointed only because I loved Cloud Atlas so much and was really excited about Jupiter's and it just didn't live up to my expectations - I would still call it enjoyable though.

As for John Carter I totally agree with you that it was unfairly ridiculed. I loved the movie and thought it was a very faithful to the book. Barsoom is one of my favourite sci-fi series of all time second only to the Dune series so I still have hope they might make a sequel some day.
