David Appreciation Thread

David has grown on me quite a bit over the last few weeks and it has nothing to do with me suddenly thinking he's a babe because he's shaved his beard. He's the wrong gender for me.
I think he can be quite a gentleman and I liked that when it was announced that they would be evicted as singles and not in pairs he immediately said if it came down to it he would put himself up. I don't think he was saying it to make himself look good. To me it came across as genuine.
He does suffer from foot in mouth disease at times but I think that's something he will learn to control.
I think he seems intelligent and quirky and unlike most of the others I don't think he's in the house because he wants to be famous. I think he has quite a bit of depth to him.
I wish the daily shows let us get to know the housemates instead of just pulling stunt after stunt as I find David intriguing.
I also thought he handled the bullying he was copping quite well.

Comparing Skye to Jade?

Srsly, still???? Get off it already..

Anyway, back to David.
He needs to stay! Threw a few votes his way too, didn't think I would be this year lol

I'm merely pointing out who the voters are that get behind the likes of Jade and Skye and some of the reasons as to why.

Not saying that all Jade and Skye fans are alike and vote accordingly ( you obviously don't share same enthusiasm for Skye ) but there definitely is some overlap as unpalatable and insulting as you may deem that to be. Stay classy.

Absolutely wrong. They're not even anything alike. Tahan had more teenies voting for her so you can draw that correlation too if you're talking purely objectively as you claim. Just because you don't like someone you come across as ignorant when you make assumptions about the kind if people who do.

That said, it's 2014 and this is the David thread so yeah. Stay relevant :)

I'm interested in knowing whether David will step up his game or not after his chat with Tim.

I can see the dynamics shifting. The girls seem more accepting of him now (shallow hey?) while they seem to be over Travis' antics. It'll be interesting to see what happens if they both survive.

P.s. Con go derail another thread with your ignorant stabs will you?

You're being a little presumptuous if you honestly think teenyboppers were not a large part of the reason why Jade made it to 2nd place last season and came within a whisker of winning.

I'm not claiming that 100% of Jade fans were mindless impressionable 'teenyboppers' just they undoubtedly comprised a large portion of her fanbase. So please chill every time I innocuously bring up her name, it's not meant as a subtle sly dig at you or any of her other fans in this forum. :)

I'm confident when I say that Jade would be extremely thankful for their financial contribution in helping her almost win BB last year and would not be at all displeased in being associated with them. ;)

I think a lot of the popularity for some housemates comes down to how much airtime they get and how they are portrayed. The BB producers obviously wanted to sell Skye to the public early in the show. She became the face of BB in the first week. I notice this week they are now trying to market David ( which I'm happy about). Some HM get almost no airtime (Ryan for example) I'm not sure if their strategy was always to only evict one from the pair with the least votes, or if they changed it after they realised that strategy might see the show loose an interesting HM too early. I can definitely see production manipulation this year - it wasn't as obvious so early in the show last year.

For all the debate regarding beard shaving-gate, at the very least if the extra airtime helps David get enough votes to save it'll be well worth it.

David seems so self conscious now. He is quite lovely to look at, but for whatever reason he just came across as insecure. I don't know, I kind of found it endearing in one way but also I want to know whether there is a reason he may feel this way

I'd hazard a guess that he's the type to get quite shy and uncomfortable when people make too much of a fuss over him...especially about his looks, and that's exactly what happened when the others saw his beard gone. You can tell he's not used to being the centre of attention and getting that kind of reaction from people.

Yeah I think David said if it came down to it he would put himself up because he blames himself, or at least others/sandra told him he's the main reason why they were nominated in the first place.
I also thought he was a gentlemen when Sandra gave up on their chance to win $30k because she was cold and wanted to jump into the spa.

I think it was overwhelming with Tim choosing him to the Sanctuary Suite for the night, the advice given, and shaving his beard etc plus he needs to get used to looking at himself in the mirror and not stroking his beard anymore.
I think he feels a bit self conscious about his chin ( from his BB profile) so will at least grow it back a little bit .

Is that David or Shavid? Or is it Tobey McGuire? One thing's for certain: it's a new day for David without his BFF beard.

When introduced to Shavid (that’s David, sans face fluff), HMs made a massive about-face about his face – with some of the ladies even a little hot around the collar! Here are the best of the Housemate reactions.

resizer.aspx

“Oh my god you look totally different! You look like Tobey McGuire!”

While the in-progress Shavid looked more Chopper Read than Spider-Man, Tim’s final assessment of his masterpiece was right on the money; David reckons he used to get mistaken for Tobey McGuire all the time!

resizer.aspx

“What... the hell?!”

As the first to clock David’s newly naked face, Aisha’s verbal outburst neatly summed up what everyone was thinking (followed closely by ‘OH MY GOD WTF BBQ ROFLCOPTER’).

resizer.aspx

“You look AMAZING.”

Katie quickly lunged in to plant the kiss she could never bring herself to bestow on David before! Maybe she finally sees something she likes?

resizer.aspx

“You’re so good looking!”

Former foe Lisa was able to forget David’s uncharitable assessment of her, ahem, assets, and lather on the praise.

resizer.aspx

“Oh my gosh, you look amazing!”

Skye was so staggered by David’s new swagger, she nearly bent double.

resizer.aspx

“I thought you said you’ve never do it.”

Ryan was … not impressed.

resizer.aspx

“You look so different.”

When Sandra made this sober proclamation, it’s probably safe to assume she meant ‘different good’.

resizer.aspx

“I had an epiphany last night that I entered this House as a partner bearded up, and as we are no longer partnerships I needed to set myself aside.”

David primed the Housemates for the ‘new player’ in town – enter Shavid.

resizer.aspx

“I reckon he just saved himself from Eviction.”

Lisa called a spade a beard spade when Gemma suggested David’s beard “was his thing”.

resizer.aspx

“It was totally the beard that made me creeped out.”

Katie and Lisa have clearly joined the Shavid fan-wagon. “Now it’s gone I’m like, ‘He’s so cute’!” Lisa gushed, while Katie suggested with surprise that David was “actually good-looking”. Ummm… thanks?

resizer.aspx

“As if Dave didn’t know he was gonna shave it as soon as his cards were down.”

Ryan reckoned The Amazing Vanishing Beard was a trick David had been hiding up his sleeve from the get-go.

resizer.aspx

“You could be a model – just believe in yourself!”

Skye was ready with the motivational pep-talk when David said he didn’t like his new face in the mirror.

I think BB seemed quite bias in the edit of David earlier in the week and not showing the full story with the girls and them over-reacting etc... good it's evened out a bit now, so hopefully D&S wont be the ones with the least save votes tomorrow.

I think even with his beard, the girls (and guys) seem to be getting to know and liking David more anyway, and Travis was already getting to be on the outer....

I'm wondering if Sam is the brains behind the operation if you get what I mean. He and David had that nice chat in the spa and Sam was the one to tell David not to listen to Travis and is horrible advice...... Could Sam be the reason that David is more accepted and Travis is slowly being pushed to the outer.

I know that Sam had a bad first week edit wise thanks to the Diner/money thing. For me it seemed that he was the only guy on Davids side at one point. The episode that David spoke out at dinner wasn't David and Sam talking before ( I remember because Sam had sunscreen around his nipples in the shape of a square) and Sam was being very supportive.

definitely not used to it... Well the beard did give him attention but not such a favourable one and he was ok with that. That's what I find fascinating about him. He didn't want to be noticed the way he was today. Yeah I sound obsessive, but I can't stop
