Ratings Thread 2013

You can't compare directly to the US. Viewers don't vote for the evicted housemates. Plus the show is considered trash.

Plus the avid fans who watch on the live feeds( which they pay for) can always figure out who wins head of household, power of veto and who is nominated well before it airs.

Plus the show has none of the charm of the Australian show.

Plus the house is awful in comparison.

I think the big brother Australia format might work in the US but people are not going to pay to vote week after week. So voting would have to be free.

My point is that they are so different that comparing them might not be that valuable.

I'm back!!!

What about your talent shows like American idol, X Factor SYTYCD and DWTS is voting for those shows free?

BBAU was considered trash here for a while as well. I'm sure some people still think that it is. The bloody PM went on radio and said that the show should be taken off the air.

Yes. All American reality shows have free voting.

Look, the demos have been great, but you can't deny that the numbers are pretty poor. Alex might have said that 800K is the new Million so therefore 790K is pretty poor!

to put it into perspective.

Only 2 shows cracked the magic million last night, and only just.

1. ABC News - Update 1.059m
2. Nine News - 1.033m

That number 1 entry will be deleted in the final adjusted ratings, too. A one minute news update doesn't qualify as a program to record ratings. So really only ONE cracked the million.

And then when you disregard News and Current Affairs programs

7. Beauty and the Geek - 834k
9. Home and Away 821k
10. Big Brother 790k

So all things considered, it was the third highest non news program for the evening and did well in demos.

A spectacular result? certainly not. But it was good enough.

THAT IS SO AWESOME.

Can you imagine if that happened here? I think we'd have completely different results.
Plus people wouldn't be able to whinge and say "well so&so has more money behind them."

DAILY SHOW - FRIDAY, 1ST NOVEMBER 2013

619k - #8 in total people.

#1 in 25-54 and 18-49 demos & #2 16-39 demos (killers was #1)

Double Eviction - Monday, 4th November 2013

992k - #6 in total people.

#3 in 25-54 demo and #2 in 18-49 & 16-39 demos

(Big Bang was #1 in all demos and the Big Bang RPT was #2 in 25-54)

I'm sure Perth channel seven could show the test screen and it would still beat channel nine. It boggles the mind. I'm not sure why the western hate of nine.

It probably would still beat channel 9. If the numbers picked up in Perth and Adelaide Big Brother would have gotten over the magic million last night, and several other nights as well.

Four reasons for lower ratings in Adelaide & Perth (IMO):
 • You've got to remember Adelaide and Perth both have localised editions of Today Tonight (seven), vs the alternative of A Current Affair (not local).
 • The other difference being in past 9 Adelaide & Perth were owned by WIN Television, so 7 wins again by being an owned & operated station. O & O tends to have better on-air presentation quality, less 'community tv' feel when locally produced content makes it to air.
 • And in the case of Adelaide (not sure with Perth), the news presenter duo on 7 News have been around a lot longer in their current roles than Nine News.
 • The live BB shows aren't live Adelaide/Perth so it loses some value already e.g. you have to basically avoid being online to avoid spoilage. I'd say a lot of people would just 'find out' who is evicted on social media due to this.

I don't vote for all those shows. I know that So You Think You can Dance and American Idol are free. Plus Facebook votes are free( though they may be capped at a certain number per account.) You can block vote too- so if you had 100 votes on Facebook, you can just send them all at once to one person or break them up.

I don't know about the other shows.

Yeah fair enough. Nine have purchased WIN perth now though, so hopefully the trends will change,

bleachy_dude Yep, same with Adelaide, it has been bought by 9. But all the equipment, playout etc are still as-is through WIN it seems for the moment.

In all honesty, that is VERY disappointing considering it's so close to the finale and it was a double. How on earth can a crap show like Big Bang outdo Big Brother????

p.s - W.A wouldn't rate as highly because of the time delay - they already know the answer and just can't be bothered to watch it 3 HOURS LATER!!! LOL!
