Ok I'm just going to put this out there because it's been bothering me for a while and i haven't found any other discussions about it so i think I'm probably just going nuts, but here we go...

Does anyone else question how genuine bens 'character' is?
Right from the start i wondered how he even got there, what was it that made someone like him get up and audition for big brother
He really doesn't fit the usual profile for someone wanting to be on BB, or does he?
Ben can actually be quite funny at times, strangly funny for the character he is portraying
I saw once on a daily show he made a flirtatious remark to one of the boys then have a sly sidewards glance looking directly at the camera, i wondered about it at the time but brushed it off as a coincidence...but then i saw the same thing happen again ( i don't remember exactly what happened just the same sly look into the camera)

I don't know considering all these actors and wanna be actors, i just wonder about Ben sometimes

This isn't an attack on him, real or not i think he's adorable

I wonder if his mum encouraged Ben to audition...she seems to love the attention during the live shows, and has a bit of following now as well, with Ben talking to his photos and her being in the Diary Room during that task. Ben seems to be interested in winning the money and has brought up what he would do with it and always talks about his budget, so maybe it was money driven and not career minded like many of the HM's? Has Ben mentioned if he has watched any previous BB series?
I don't know if he aspires to be an actor or not. He does seem quite witty/funny at times and I think he does play up to the cameras.

I don't think he's necessarily acting or playing someone he isn't. But I do think he's very self-aware and knows exactly what's he's doing and what to say. He's possibly playing dumb.

Yeah, i don't think he's completely being someone he's not, i don't care how good you are no one could pull something like that off for so long...I'm just not sure he's as simple as he makes out to be

I think he's basically being himself... I can't really see him being a 'stronger' version of what he is now ... but the talking-to-photos thing is obviously put on and very weird so i'm not sure how to feel about that, but he needs to grow a pair

Acting like a super sensitive, can't cope with simple tasks man baby is just a coping mechanism he developed to make his life easier. He's much smarter than he lets on. He's quite clever and creative. He is also quite confident at times. Hence the going into Big Brother as well as the ability to essentially perform. However the conflict is, this persona he puts out to the world is really quite opposed to who he really is. Instead of breaking free, he reverts too much into the man baby persona as it's easier for him.

He was probably infantalised by his mother to an unhealthy age. Then as a result got picked on and didn't fit in with his peers. So at this point in his psychological development he could have broken free from his mother and grown up. However instead, as he was isolated from those it was much easier to retreat back to his mother and embrace the infantalised persona. The problem is, as it's a persona and not really him, you get the conflict that we witness with him being on the show. Hence why it looks like an act. It's the real person showing through the cracks. However he is now too trapped by the persona and mentally in a prison where he's too scared to break free. Even though right below the surface he wants to and when he lets his guard down it comes out. The persona is also really just towards how he expresses himself and communicates. Internally it's not how his mind functions.

As he was growing up, he would have found that a lot of the only love and attention he got that was not negative was through sympathy. Which helped reinforce the persona. However once he got older and away from the teenage high school bullshit. He could have broken free, but as he acted in this way he actually found it made him more accepted by a wider and larger group of people. So that's where it really set in. He went from being an outcast for being this way, to getting special treatment for being this way. He gets let off the hook, and can get a free pass at many aspects of his life.

As he worked as a flight attendant in the real world. This persona would have retreated. However once that ended and he was on the dole. He jumped right back into the shell to excuse his position in his life. To get a free pass.

He definitely does put on act for the camera, especially how is always dancing "the twist" and saying "I do love a good twist!". He's playing it up big time.

During the Big Brother live show at Melb Show, Matt says that he thinks Ben is definitely playing it up for the cameras and is exaggerating who he is. None of the housemates knew what he was doing (talking to his own pictures) and that he's very smart and knows what he's doing.

This makes a lot of sense :)

Thanks for the responses i really wasn't sure if i was imagining it or not lol

Looking at the camera would be something he certainly wouldn't do if he was an actor imo. It's like the worst mistake an actor can do.

I have been saying the same thing since the beginning.. Talking to his photos and being so quirky hmmm especially pretending to lack confidence but then always 'being on show" not only in regards to the cameras but also the voices he does and his act strait routine he does.. I think he is playing harder than anyone

Yeah that's true but only for a specific kind of acting
I think he's deliberately playing it up for the cameras, the times I'm referring to were kind of like a 'did you catch that BB' type of look :)

Assuming he's indeed acting, he could not have chosen a better vehicle to display his wares and take home a quarter of a million dollars for his troubles.

That said I don't want him to win as Ch 9 are pushing him on the viewing public and using his dorkable pesona to slant Big Brother as a family friendly product which is something that in its purest it most definitely isn't and I'm totally against.

in terms of the internal function of his mind, has he sucked-off the pillow beater yet?

Is that really him? It looks like it could be him but more likely a close relative or something. Either way just because he's pulling a funny face for a pic doesn't necessarily mean he's been putting on a persona in the BB house. He's not been exactly a hermit, surely plenty of people would've come out of the wood work by now to announce he was a fraud if he wasn't anything like he acts in the BB house.

It's really him. It's from the FB page his mum and friends contribute to. :)

Edited as I'm not sure if it's actually made it to his mum's page and no way am I going back there to check. lol

This is something that I've recently been wondering as well. I would like to think that the person we see in the house is who Ben actually is, maybe slightly exaggerated at times. It would suck if people who like him (myself included) found out it was all an act to win the show.

You can bet your bottom dollar what you are seeing is an act to win BB.

Ben is the sneakiest game player in the house this year...the others, all of them, have at some point admitted to playing based on a strategy of some sort (which perfectly normal) whereas Ben wants to fool us he's not playing the game and he is just 'little old me, just trying to be a nice person, i miss you so much nan, "
