I don't see why the hatred for Ed, its like he killed someone or something. Ed could have been much worst with the Jade situation. Jade got some emotional issues that has nothing to do with Ed. Jade would scare most guys who are not looking for a quicky away due to her low self esteem, and using her sexuality to cling to a guy. I've seen these types of people, and it not healthy at all. I knew a girl who was like this, and try to commit suicide to get the guy to stay. He ended up wasting years with someone he did not love because he feared she would kill herself.
I do agree with Ed needing a backbone, but I think its more of him using the whole nice guy thing to make it to the end. I'm sure outside of the game, he may be more of a risk taker or what not. Also showmance tend to ruin a person's game, and this is what his family may have warned him about. Add that to an emotionally unstable Jade who would end up being devastated if Ed agree to a romance, but did not intend for it to last. To be fair though, once the girls started labeling him as Prince Charming, he probably thought why not use that to get to the end. Unfortunately, he is finding out that it is hard with someone as clingy, and emotional wreck as Jade. That will also explain why he is scared to tell her up front he doesn't like her. Jade is so emotionally messed up, that it would probably cause her to have a break down, and he would end up looking like the bad guy.
The role of Mr. Nice guy has put Ed in a position where he cannot be himself, and that is not winning him fans. But looking at BBUK, Ed would have fair very well there since nice people tend to make it far (Sophie and Sam). There are those who hate him for being against Tim, but that only means he is playing the game, though a boring one. Lets be honest it is the Tim Show, and for some if anyone goes against Tim, then they are seen as some sort of villain when in actuality it only means that others are willing to play the game, and are able to see that Tim is a threat to their game. Anyone playing the game will see that Tim is a threat. Just because Tim is beloved doesn't mean that everyone else have to sit there, and let Tim be the only one playing the game.
I personally enjoy watching Tim, but I do realize how it must suck to be in the house playing second fiddle to someone like Tim who can get away with almost anything, and come out looking good. I agree, Ed is boring, but I would love for him to stay longer, and see if he will eventually crack. I like Caleb also, though he is also a bore, but unfortunately I would prefer for him to leave rather than Ed. I want to see if Ed can keep up this role or whether he can come out of his shell, and be his real self even if he doesn't make it far. I personally felt that Heidi, the twins, need to leave more than anyone else in the house before someone like Tully, Caleb, Matt, and Ed need to go.
