If I had to pick who I think Ben is closest to in a housemate of the past it would be Rob.
Aside from the bitchy queen aspect I don't see much of a comparison. Rob was never as central to events as Ben is. He was also much more up front with queer sexuality. It may just be the family friendly editing but I get a sense that Ben is rather discrete about sexual matters.
One thing they do have in common is the ability to coin a name that fits a HM perfectly. How I laughed when Rob dubbed Jamie and John as Frankenstein and Feck. And Ben's Tom Cruise moniker for Ray is a gift that keeps on giving.

He's a brilliant tactician, I'll give him that. But like all masterful strategists they have a habit of getting carried away and overstretching.
He's downfall is inevitable and I'll just wait patiently for his Waterloo to arrive.

You are well and truly obsessed, get a life! You seem like a closet homosexual who's attracted to him.

You following around like a bad smell is a stronger indication of being seriously unhinged and lacking in the upstairs department.

Your presumption that I'm "following you around" is yet another facet of your utterly deluded self. Unfortunately I happen to be reading the same threads as you and having to read your OBSESSED comments about Ben. So don't flatter yourself.

At first I wasn't too impressed with him but now I love him! He is the most entertaining HG. When he was in the DR lying on the chair with his legs up I was dying LOL.

I love Ben - and not just for entertainment purposes. He is the sort of person I gravitate towards in real life - funny, caring and brutally honest.
The house would suck without him.

I've said this all along. Agreed.

Last night I had a strange dream: I was the next-door-neighbour of the BB house, and I had an inexplicably large collection of Bromeliads, including an inexplicably large one (tall as Josh) with a magnificent yellow and red flower, and I was trying to get them to look after them for me while I was away.
They had agreed to it readily enough, but I had a long and detailed list of things that had to be done in a certain way (the plants had to be watered by buckets, and each had to get a certain number of litres of water a day, and there were things concerning sun and possible frost protection, and the really big plant had to be taken from the pot and planted, in a particular way, and I had to give a detailed and minute step-by-step account of, even though I had to leave pretty much straight away.)
Most of the housemates had lost all interest and wandered off before I reached the instructions for mulching and fertilising the de-potted plant, but Michael, Brad, Ray and Ben remained. They all had a look of polite, feigned interest (except for Brad, who looked increasingly sulky and bored) while I gave them these boring, hurried instructions that were essential for the health of my many plants.
I woke up thinking "Why is Ben the only one I trust to look after my plants? Why is my subconscious telling me I can trust Ben?"
I have no good reason think of him as a trusty and reliable plant waterer, and no better reason to suddenly turn into a Ben fan, but I do think he is practical, has integrity, intelligence, is a good listener, good observer, and in real life, a good person. It has been obvious for a long time that the house would be boring, inane and a meaner place than it is, if Ben was not in it. And as of this morning, he is my favourite housemate.
edit: Watching the repeat of yesterdays show - just noticed how many fabulous Bromeliads they have in the house garden. Great job, landscaping crew. Think I became a Bromeliad fancier today too.

It's just the channel 9 one.
The knives are out for Ray because they see him as a threat, he's popular - they saw he got top save votes and their shitting 'emselves,....
Plus I think Ben is fueling a lot of it, he out of all of them I believe is one of the most desperate to win & he didn't get the most saves when he was up for eviction... Ben is threatened by Ray's popularity...
I'd like to see everyone turn on Ben & bitch about him like he does about others lol... Then after a few weeks of torment BOOT him out - that would be television entertainment hahaha

I'm pretty sure they didn't. I thought that was only revealed to Sarah on the eviction stage.

The thing about Ben's bitching is that it's perfectly integrated into his personality. It's just a part of his normal expression, these pithy statements that sum up with an edge of satire the coarser aspects of life in the house. People seem to regard this as motivated by malice and yet that's not how the HMs seem to find it.
I say that because when I see him utter these bon mots, he appears to be in a group of people, often a large one. His quip about Estelle waiting for someone to transfer in from another school so she could have a friend was both an accurate observation of what was happening and said in front of just about the whole household. Yet he gets accused of "bitching behind everyone's backs".
No. It's all right out in the open. They all know he does it. The HMs don't seem to find it nearly as offensive (if at all) as so many here. That's why he's so overlooked during nominations. That's why they haven't turned on him.
