Technical glitch reveals winner

From:Herald Sun
April 17, 201212:00AM

LAST NIGHT, the name of the gold Logie winner was inadvertently and momentarily made available via Google prior to the winner being announced at the event in Melbourne.

The error occurred during live testing of the Herald Sun's new iPad application which is due for release in coming weeks.

Live testing has been taking place for about a week.

At no time did the Herald Sun publish the name of the winner on its website, iPad app or in Twitter.

However, during the live testing, a link to an embargoed story naming the winner was momentarily created and published by Google.

The link was discovered almost as soon as it had been created and immediately killed.

The only media outlet to knowingly publish the winner's name prior to it being announced was ninemsn.com.au - the website of the host broadcaster.

Winner of Gold Logie 'announced' by newspaper

22:00 AEDT Sun Apr 15 2012

The winner of the Gold Logie at tonight's Logie Awards has been pre-emptively revealed by a news website.

In an article published online just after 10pm the Herald Sun claimed comedian Hamish Blake had taken out the honour.

It's unclear whether the paper had inside information or whether articles were pre-written with each of the nominated personalities.

The paper quoted Blake as saying it was "donkey voting" that got him over the line.

"It is lovely. It was a fluke to be nominated and ... a far bigger fluke to actually hold that Logie," he said.

Minutes later the article had been pulled from the website but not before sparking uproar on Twitter.

More to come...

UCK....Hamish won the GOLD?????? for what?????? a crummy show with no structure????? Disgraceful :D

Social Media = "Blake's personal campaign - he has a huge Facebook and Twitter following - also no doubt played a significant part".

Ahhhh.....foreign territory to me *blushes*...anyway...Karl can get sloshed now :D

Oh Red carpet :D

It is their 30th Anniversary of first attending the Logies together.
(It is quite sad I know this, isn't it!!!):o

But how would we know this stuff if we didn't have you :)

And thank you lovely ladies for your frock display tonight. Did not get to watch ~grumbles at hubby~ so thanks to you I have been able to keep up.

Hamish won over short-priced favourite Carrie Bickmore, who had more money bet on her than all other nominees combined.

Who ARE all these people who think Carrie deserves to be nominated and win!?

I would have been happy for Karl to win again as long as it meant Carrie losing out.

^ I don't know how I would have coped seeing that idiot showing off all over the place. I really do boil when she comes on (did you notice?)

I say again, just because your hubby dies does not suddenly make you a bastion of tv journalism that requires a gold logie. I take it her social media fans / presence must not be to the standard of Hamish if everyone thought she was going to take it out.

Why do you all hate Carrie? I rarely see her, just bits here and there and she doesn't bother me.

Sheesh what happened to Tracie, she sure blew up hiding behind that desk.
