Friday the 13th is rated 'R' here so I would expect it to be more violent, though the advisory also says "some graphic sexual content". I'll find out on the weekend lol. I have a weakness for bad slasher pics.

I saw Watchmen today too. Ders, you really were shocked by what you saw? The humping scene went on a little long, but really, not that shocking. It wasn't the glowing blue alien winkie that got you was it?
A little slow going, a little too talky, but then that's what the Comic is too.
As a fan of the comic (okay, "Graphic Novel"), I got really into it, especially Rorschachs time in prison.

Wow, really an amazing film. I had gotten a bit worried in the last couple days. Got the so so impressions from some people, and while not reading reviews had seen some people absolutely detested it.
Well I was blown away. Such a compelling film. It really is on a different level from other recent excellent comic book movies like the dark knight. I really was just memorised and yeah, one of the best films i've seen in ages. It's nice to see a comic book movie, which is serious, adult, and is a comic book movie, not trying to be too grounded by being less comic book.

You can't honestly complain about seeing an MA film or because you chose to not look at the ticket, the poster, the advertising material or anything. Movies have ratings, if you're sensative, one would think you'd decided to always check this.
Also there was nothing in the film that was out of the rating and from an artistic point of view, I found nothing was gratuitous or out of scope of the films tone. It was all with merit to the artistic vision and therefore justified.
You had the choice to make a decision to see it or not, and you exercised it, by seeing a film, advertised as having strong sex and violence. As I just verified that by looking at the hoyts site.
Your ignorance is not a fault of the ratings system, or society or anything else, it's purely your own. You have no one to blame for yourself, you need to learn to take some responsibility for yourself and your own sensibilities and take appropriate actions.
However you obviously don't want that as it's a lesson most people learn pretty early on; how to avoid non necessary, or compulsory things that will offend them or that they will dislike.
Seeing you have never taken any of this responsibility for yourself by not learning or by ignoring this basic life lesson, I just pity the sad existence you must have as a result. Also I find some amusement in that you're so self righteous you think society must bend to make your experience in the world as comfortable for yourself as possible, regardless of you having to make a single choice or decision in doing so.
Grow up, stop being a baby, and be an adult. Take some responsibility, get some education, if not then stop annoying others with your crap, writing letters to the classification board, and the countless other places I am sure you complain to. I am sure there's countless people who have to put up with you're complaining. If you choose to be super sensitive, and chose to take no responsibility to compensate to make your life better, at least be considerate enough to not make other peoples lives a little less pleasant by having to put up with your childish nonsense.

IE, both are listed as MA15+, yet really, do the two compare from a ratings point of view ... and either of them suitable for someone 15 years old, hmmm ?
Watchmen should clearly have an R18+ rating, and it IS just yet another signs of the terrible times we live in that so many choose to think otherwise.

"Not that shocking" bolded by me. Sad that someone should think that - but that is what happens from repeated exposure to that which is less than savoury. I've read that "Doctors" who perform abortions usually find the first couple hard going, but it soon becomes all too easy.

Another film I saw recently (on DVD) and WAS suitably rated, would be "Auto Focus", which is the story of how Bob Crane, the guy who played Hogan in Hogan's Heroes, had his life totally taken over and normal relationships with people ruined by his ever increasing (and obviously totally unsatisfying) addiction to pr0n, which ended up seeing his head staved in by a (presumed) camera tripod.
I'm telling you this so you can understand that I'm no "prude" (heck, I'm about as disconnected as the blue guy in Watchmen when it comes to getting caught up or caring all that much about life's repeatative banalities that so captivate lesser minds), but rather more concerned that visual media be suitably classified so as to protect the relative innocense of younger minds and by doing so perhaps try and swing the pendulum back towards a better future than the obvious hell-bent swing so much of the western world currently seems to be aiming for.
Watchmen is a prime example of mis-classification, but I also recognise that in a year or two it will prolly end up on free 2 air TV anyway ... and give you cancer (Hi Jaymax

Honestly I think watchmen is suitable for a 15 year old. I would say it's suitable for a 12 year old, however story wise, it was probably a bit too cerebral for the younger teens, even into the mid teens, i would wonder if they'd be as gripped by it. Younger than 12 i'd say no. 12 upwards, depending on the person, it'd be fine.
The sex, wasn't anything insanely overly graphic, and teenagers have sex on their mind, are aware of sex. Many are having it. Whether you like it or not. Nudity, sure you don't want that in a kids film, but this wasn't a kids film and there was nothing wrong or obscene about the nudity in this.
Violence, i thought it was handled quite well. It was nothing more worse than countless horror films. Just done with much better style, and the action and violence was quite minimal, and suited the artistic tone of the film.
Those classifications might not have spelled out exactly what was in it. maybe a cg wang warning should have been there, but it's a classification that often has nudity and allows it, says strong violence and sex.
I would say there was nothing really shocking or obscene or, only an adult can handle. Censorship is an important issue, while it serves a function, too cautious censorship, is never a good thing. A value has to be placed on what's acceptable by society, and I fully believe this film was rated correctly. Sure it's not suitable for everyone, but it's the parents and the watchers responsibility on whether it's suitable or not.
Just because you took your delicate little flower to see it, is no one's fault but your owns.

Derspatz, really. Watchmen says it has strong violence and sex. If you don't want to see violence or sex, check the films before you watch them! Simple.
Things like Friday 13th and Underworld rate higher almost automatically because of the 'horror' aspect.
All this carry-on because you didn't think to check out a movie before you took your family to see it. Foolishness on your part, not really the problem of the classification board.

Number 6 (Freddy's Dead) is my favourite, because it's the first film I ever saw in 3D, stupid glasses and all lol. Plus Alice Cooper played his Father. Really though, I love all of them

Honestly Ders, the movie was rated MA. That's a pretty big hint that there is going to be stuff kids shouldn't see in it. I can understand you being upset that you took your kid to see it. I wouldn't want my kids in there either. But you had fair warning. You didn't read the label before buying the product.

It's been years and years since I saw this and it wasn't that bad. I found once it started and got going I had to finish it. the very last scene "Oh My!!". Made me jump a bit.
Overall a good way to kill 120 minutes. It's not nearly as bad as all the doomsayers would have you believe. I think it was an OK movie despit the fact it's an old one. I have to go find that other movie "The Last Seduction" and try that one out again.
I remember watching that and what put me off alll through the move was this soft "tinkle tinkle" piano type music that kept playing through the movie. Anyway yeah Basic Instinct was an OK movie.

A friend in Ireland saw this movie, and said something about a blue penis appearing a lot.
Saw a trailer for Friday the 13th on telly last night. Really, you have to say: done. to. death. Still, maybe for a younger generation, who knows, though one suspects the suspense would have been a bit more meaningful in 1980.
