Is Jake gay?

Long time lurker, first time poster here!

Not sure if this has been raised by anyone before, but I was wondering if anyone knew definitively whether Jake was gay or not?

I first got this vibe on launch night, by what he was wearing, his mannerisms and demeanour (very similar to some of my gay male friends).

This was later compounded by a few things, (although I don't know if i'm reading into it too much):

  • He seemed to gravitate towards the female housemates as opposed to the males/bromances that are going on
  • I can't remember which night it was, but the housemates were all sitting on the couch, and I noticed Jake had his nails painted. Not that this is an indicator of homosexuality, but I didn't see any of the other guys with a full manicure set (I think Travis may have had one nail painted)
  • His reluctance to kiss/snuggle with Skye. In the spa scenes he seemed very awkward and put off by her forwardness. This is again not a red flag (Katie was the same when Ryan kissed her), but my male housemates commented "no straight guy would reject a harmless kiss or snuggle with Skye".
  • Another thing which piqued my interest was when Jason and Jake were walking around the pool, and Jason was sussing out (on Skye's behalf) whether Jake had feelings for her or not... Jason: Are you interested in anyone?
    Jake: ...... maybe.....why?
    Jason: Just curious
    Jake: Just curious? ...... What do you know, that I don't know, that you should tell me, that I should tell you? ...... Just curious?
    I understand Jake may have been feeling awkward and on the spot about Skye's keen interest and whatnot, but he just seemed to be hesitating to admit a crush ("maybe... why?") but then later clarified: "I'm not really crushing on Skye at all" (Jake).
    I just feel like (this is a massive stretch!) he may have interest in Jason as a (fellow?) gay housemate and wanted to make it known that he *did* have a crush, just not on Skye.

    Anyway, maybe it's all in my head, but just gauging anyone elses thoughts on this!

    I hope poor Jake doesn't get the boot this week... I feel bad he's pretty much collateral damage from all the votes directed at Gemma!

Maybe he is not into Skye and maybe your male housemates have poor taste. ;)

I didn't mention anything about his "look" in terms of fashion sense. As someone else mentioned, he does seem quite metro.. and that's not a sign of homosexuality. I meant more his manerisms and demeanor on stage with Sonia, and his initial time in the house (he seems to have mellowed out a bit now). I have friends who are stereotypically "nerdy", and while everyone is different, they're not really nerdy in the way you reckon Jake is.

Yeah can definitely agree with that! They don't seem like a compatible match and it's probably wise not to dive into anything too early on in the game. Katie reacted similarly to Jake when Ryan tried to kiss her in the spa. Still doesn't disqualify the other characteristics/behaviours that could attribute him as gay...
 
PS: I'm not hell-bent on proving anything, just wondering if others were thinking the same as me...

His mannerisms and demeanor on stage seemed like someone with an awkward personality, straight or gay. And I don't see how he's "metro" - He really has no sense of fashion. Even David is well-dressed than he is. In fact, all of the boys this year fare much better than him in the fashion department. He's a mix of goofy and nerdy (yep, everyone is different, but for me he falls under the 'nerdy' umbrella).

Tell me, is this how you 'pick out' closeted gays? Do you even have a gaydar for men like Dion, Travis and such? Or must it only be for dudes who are a bit goofy and 'off'?
 
Dion definitely isn't gay imo, but I could see Travis being bi or bi-curious. As for Jake, I'm still not sure. The way he was all over Jason's bed made me think it was a brotherly thing, but then he stayed on for a while.. lol. I do have to say I did initially think he was gay though. Not sure why, I just did.

Travis strikes me as a guy who is comfortable with his sexuality. He's straight and wouldn't mind kissing other men (I guess you can call that "homoflexible"). Yeah, perhaps bicurious, but very well straight.

I mean, he tried to kiss Ryan in the lips in the diary room (Ryan backed off). He also did a little 'waltz' with Jake in the kitchen - this was in the background.

After all, he's Italian. Their men can get close with other men and not be gay or 'sexual' towards them. And that's what you call 'platonic' relationships.
 
So nobody seems to be interested in talking about the moves Jake was making on Lisa. Rebuffed! She would have been the last girl I'd have guessed he'd go for. She's leading him along a merry path though, it's only a matter of time before she's drunk enough.

Jake reminds me of a friend who was always asked if he was gay and he denied it to the ends of the earth, despite his mannerisms and loving and caring nature. He would always wear the crazy shirts like Jake as well (not that patterns on shirts really have anything to do with this) anyway, he had a girlfriend until recently and split up with her and started seeing a guy who is also one of my friends. I feel like I am actually watching him on TV because the are just so alike! It's really really weird.

So it turns out he's not gay. He is a softcock though and that's OK. For many men it's just something you have to work through.

Hopefully he'll be able to find his balls eventually and hook into Lisa just the way she wants.
