Your favourite BBAU weekly tasks or task moments

Something I'd like to see is measurable tasks. BBUK used to have the group's target for a task printed in a sealed envelope, so while they completed the task/challenge they were unaware of their pass/fail status until time was up and they finally got to open the envelope. In terms of transparency you can't beat this. Over time there were too many tasks where BB AU would decide at their discretion whether HMs had passed or failed a task, which is just bullshit really.
it is bullshit, but its part of the way production would work to manipulate the housemates. One clear example that comes to mind is the hotel task in BB14, which completely divided the house, and was then followed up with staples week which led to even more bitching

And they "fail" a couple in a row, then actually fail the next one but get given a pass because producers feel sorry for them. As a viewer it's hard not to get cynical.

at the end of the day, it's not about the tasks ever being fair. The tasks are just there to create content for the daily show - whether it's humour, drama, or otherwise. Prod will do what they must to produce the show, whether its pre-determinedly "failing" the housemates task to increase tension, or giving them an easy pass because they need to lift the energy and give them more staples.

It's why the NUMBER ONE THING I would do when going into the house is try several beds before settling on the one I want. I'm pretty sure in the US they deliberately make some beds comfier than others so some housemates won't sleep well and will be more irritable as a result. The house is pretty much designed to push the housemates buttons and get a reaction out of them. Just is what the show is.

There is a balance though and viewers have a sense of fairness - it's one thing producers tricking the housemates but another thing when they're tricking the viewers too.

I'm not a huge fan of tasks where housemates are playing characters rather than having to show them trueselves - they have a purpose but not week after week as seems to be happening in BBUK. I also think they the tasks need visible consequences that viewers can see and housemates clearly feel - one of the main problems I had with BBUK last year was win or lose it didn't really seem to affect the housemates experiences as they were still getting takeaways and parties almost nightly.

Yeah this is an issue. To a certain extent the housemates do need to be pushed and irritated to make interesting conversations and actions happen. Yes parties and alcohol can do this but do it too much and it becomes repetitive and boring, and the same few extroverted housemates end up hogging the screentime. By removing luxuries and making things less enjoyable different sorts of conflicts begin to occur.

Ideally you need both to make the best show. I feel the recent UK version has leant too far towards the positive reinforcement side.

Don't forget the constant KFC dinners on the latter versions of Australian Big Brother.
