In light of last month's announcement of Big Brother AU returning home to Channel 10 in 2025 for a live season, It seems fitting to reminisce a little about BBAU of past, don't you think? Let's start it off with Big Brother tasks.

Out of all the Big Brother seasons across channels 10, 9 and even *shudder* 7, what tasks (or task moments) do you remember being among your favourite BB moments? Bonus if you remember the day (and episode timestamp), but just mentioning the year will do.

2007: A hilarious moment on Day 62 during the police academy task when a housemate dresses up as a burglar and then coffee is spilled (20:12):

2007: At the time of broadcast I thought the 'BB goes away' task was interesting because it was something different, particularly the initial moments on Day 53 when HMs were uncertain what was going on up until BB's phone call (2:38):

2013*: Day 85 was the start of the BBAU 2013 freeze and release task. Now I know I said this was about Australian Big Brother, however I actually prefer BBUK 2013's approach with their 'BBTV' task introduced on Day 34, with a giant remote containing play, pause, slow mo, rewind & fast forward buttons (3:15):
*Yes, BBAU 2020 also had a remote control task, but there were so many things wrong with 7's era.
These are just three examples that come to mind and are not necessarily 'top 3'. So what are your favourites?

The season 3 fishing task was a good memory for me. It had two of HMs pairing off, having to use fishing rods and line to fish in the pool. It was a great way to keep something on the live feeds ... especially overnight when other HMs were asleep ... and it got some really good conversations out of them. It was especially interesting if the paired off HMs didn't necessarily like each other for some reason; bringing them together and helping to cement their dislike to or heal the wounds. I thought that task, for all of its simplicity, was really good and worked really well.

I personally loved the spider catching task from 2007. I loved this task as it was a fear conquoring one for some, and something I would never consider doing myself. So I love to see other people do it. Also when BB said that spiders had escaped (when they hadn't), was great television. Love the mind torture stuff!

Off the top of my head from each season:

2001: Not a specific task per se, but when BB would read out each housemate's Individual scores it was always fun seeing how bad Sara-Marie would do and was once the reason the entire house lost. The homemade movie is a great one though which brought iconic drama such as Anita exclaiming "don't you fucking smirk at me" to Blair"

2002: The obvious answer is Nathan leading the charge to fail the the culture task in week 8. And a shout out to the surf life saving task as well.

2003: Nothing is immediatly coming to mind tbh.

2004: Probably Paul refusing to participate in the watermelon task.

2005: The school task is probably my favourite task in BB worldwide. Purley for hearing Vesna state that Jesus Christ was the one who said let them eat cake. Not to mention also the masters and servents task, where Christie would repeatedly call in Geneva to serve her for no reason.

2006: Nothing comes to mind again for this season.

2007: I always think back to the task where Billy was the "star" and he had to act like he was a selfish and spoiled superstar which ended up making Zach cry. But ofc another classic is Michelle thinking Aleisha was a robber during the police task.

2008: I guess the moon monks task.

2012: Either the fake second house which resulted in a food fight or when the housemates had to ignore unwanted guests and several BBAU alumni came into the house over the week.

2013: Without doubt one of the most iconic BBAU task moments was during the (once again) ignoring unwanted guests task and the choir came in. LMAO!

2014: The only one I remember actually laughing at was the hotel guests and workers task and Ryan (a worker) had to serve Travis (a guest) and was so polite to him to his face and immediatly called him a dickhead in such a humerously dry tone on his way into the kitchen.

That was a pretty good one, hey! Day 85 video for reference (26:11):

2004: Probably Paul refusing to participate in the watermelon task.
Video from Day 32 (4:42 in DR, 6:30 informing the house):

I feel like 2007 was actually not a bad season for tasks, Loved the Ice room, newsreader and police academy tasks especially.

I think my favourite task from 2006 was the pirate task just for how stupid it was but also the housemates really leaned into how stupid it was as well.

I agree about 2007 being a good year for tasks.

I can't remember the specifics of it but the task where they all had to pick a number was a good one too. Each number would correspond to either a reward or punishment.

Another one I actually liked was the rock paper scissors task from 2013. I think it may have been the week 10 task? Where the housemates were separated into three groups; rock, paper and scissors.

Only one team could occupy a room at one time, but another team could take over based on the rules of paper-scissors-rock. If team rock was in the kitchen then team paper could take over, and then team rock could take over whichever room tram scissors were in and so on.

I found it pretty clever and looked like it would have been fun to participate in. And of course because of the infinite loop that was caused there was constant movement around the house.

I've no memory of that one at all.
I’d have to look up what daily shows it’s from. If I’m right it was around the time when Nathan walked and Madeline was saved who was supposed to be evicted through the intruder vote.

Edit: found it, it was the exact episode where Nathan leaves. Task starts at about 17:44.

History has probably been kinder to the Nine era than it deserves - they can thank Seven for that! It had it's moments though and don't think the EP of the time, Alex Mavroidakis, really kept it a secret he'd have loved to have more of the freedom that the Ten era offered.

The weekly tasks though one area where other issues with how the show is broadcast don't necessarily impact other than perhaps only having to give the HMs enough to do to get some footage for the daily shows rather than to keep the task prominent on the live feed for a few days.

Nine era wasn't too bad (although i only watched 2013 and 2014 seasons in full).

06 had a similar one with the fishtank/water task during week 2. Works in those early weeks of the season where HMs can do deeper dives with getting to know each other.

Something I'd like to see is measurable tasks. BBUK used to have the group's target for a task printed in a sealed envelope, so while they completed the task/challenge they were unaware of their pass/fail status until time was up and they finally got to open the envelope. In terms of transparency you can't beat this. Over time there were too many tasks where BB AU would decide at their discretion whether HMs had passed or failed a task, which is just bullshit really.

I just prefer the simplicity of telling them up front they're allowed 3 fails for example. I hate how BBUK isn't even telling viewers in a voiceover recorded after the event the rules of a task.
