Why don't people like Ben?

BBParty: interesting angle and part of me agrees! I hadnt thought of that... I agree he'd be a strange choice for a flight attendant
There's a lot of speculation that he's an actor... i'm still sitting on the fence but leaning towards NO he isnt an actor, but I guess we'll just have to wait til the finale :)

but if this is his modus operandi I dont think it will work, because Tim has always been getting the #'s over him (and i think rightfully so too, because watching Ben is like watching paint dry, whereas Tim has always been trying to proactively keep things entertaining, and we watch TO BE ENTERTAINED!)

It seems that this season might actually see the most entertaining housemate win... finally! :)

I don't believe he's an actor. I think Ben had this planned to have the "poor me" persona while he was at home. People say he can't be fake because he can't keep it this long. But that's exactly what he's going to do. He has to keep up the "poor me" act until he gets the check. Now that Ben knows that his plan is working because he managed to sucker the viewers. Even if Tim is on to him and gets the house against him, it won't matter.. the viewers will still save him again.

My first post, thought I'd start on a positive note. :) I have to say I love Ben, I love his naivety and innocence and his resolve to try to understand those around him who are from a different planet to him. And he seems to be keeping true to himself. I might be very wrong, a lot of you will think that, but I love watching him :)

Why is BB always treating Ben like a baby and not a 30 yo man? He's letting him wear PJ's all day, and I don't view it as fair. All the HMs wear regular clothes, so why does Ben have to be special?

Pardon me but I thought that was the whole point of being an adult...that you can spend all day in your PJs and it's your choice.

Sorceress: wellllll.... there are probably some things that are better than being an adult and wearing PJs whenever you want, but I agree, it's right up there with the best of them! :P

True, but you have to admit it's a weird choice, particularly as he says it's because he ran out of clothes. I don't for a second believe his pathetic act. Are we honestly supposed to believe he's 30 years old, supposedly held a job & can't do anything for himself including wash clothes or cook a veggie burger. He must have been a very poor flight attendant or they were really hard up for employees - or more likely this is an act because, I agree with previous posters, - no way would this behaviour "fly" in a flight attendant job.

That's true, he should make more effort but the fact that he wears PJ's all day compared to this year's current crop of housemates surely sits pretty low on piss off factor.
I can understand how someone would dislike any other housemate (even my beloved Jade) but Ben because he's supposed 'acting' to a 'character' to me is just poor....especially when 95% of the forum has blown their load over Tim who is most certainly playing a role.

You do have a point, but I think it has more to do with BB ramming his fake persona down everyone's throat & expecting us to believe it. We all KNOW Tim is playing a role & relishing it - that's why it's way more entertaining to watch IMO - we can sort of play along with him & guess what his next move, machination or blunder will be cheering along whether you like or dislike him. Ben, on the other hand, does nothing except expect us to buy into his character.

Sorry if thisis off topic but why do you guys think Tim's playing a role? Judging from what I've seen of him before the show (like in an interview after he streaked on Rihanna's plane), he seems to have a pretty consistent personality. He's funny and impulsive but also sneaky and manipulative, and all these traits would be magnified on Big Brother.

I love Tim, I think he has been pretty consistent with who he is and in playing the game. If anything he might be holding his tongue a bot now but it's all part of the game. Ben on the other hand is either an invalid or an amazing actor. If he is the latter then he deserves every cent if he wins.

Call it a role or call it a plan - either way, it's more entertaining to watch than Ben IMO.

I don't care if Ben is acting or not, it's just his personality that annoys me!
Well I can respect that, because he does have factors that are annoying...like his voice.

I think Tim is somewhat Tim in the real world but there's no way he'd do the things he has done in the house...he is deliberate in antagonising and pitting people against one and other.
When he first entered the house it was nauseating how obvious he was trying to play up to the cameras.
Michael12 acts very much like Tim but was overboard with it and dropped his game once people he liked started getting evicted, that's why I brought up the point I did.

Ok, fair enough. I think he would be making more of an effort to be entertaining and 'relevant' on BB than in real life, which is to be expected, but I didn't notice a big change in his personality after the first couple of weeks.

Ben is a bobble head of a house mate. He doesn't do anything. He serves no purpose. Yet some people just find him amusing to watch. They look at him and just smile or laugh. Just for the very fact he is.
.
Thats hilarious and true! hahahaha

I agree with you, I love Ben's 'genuine' naivety. I don't think (like others here do) that he is fake. I think people find it hard to accept someone who is so sweet & nice. But Ben is just being Ben. He is smart, funny, friendly, honest and very endearing. I want him to win BB 2013.

Agreed. There is nothing wrong with wearing pj's all day. It's not like he is naked. On my days off from work I LOVE wearing my pj's ALL DAY!

Yes Ben should not treat the dog with rough aggression, but it IS perfectly reasonable to not like dogs. I'm terrified of them and absolutely hate it when people dismiss my fears and tell me I'm being ridiculous. You don't like dogs you don't like them, end of story.

@ cj93, genuine question: Have you had a bad experience with dogs, possibly when you were a child? I have to say I can't completely understand someone not liking dogs (or any animal). But I am an animal lover. I'm not having a go at you, I am genuinely curious as to why you don't like dogs?

Also I LOVE Ben, But I was a bit disappointed in him for not patting or interacting with the dog. That dog has got a lovely nature, he just wants to play and cuddle and be loved. I LOVE Mikkayla partly because of her treatment with Mr Clooney.

I like Ben and think he is funny some times but from the beginning I felt something was not right with him. The very modern clothes he wore, not fitting the personality he supposedly is, the thing with the pictures.

What is annoying is how the production is helping him a lot, telling the public look at Ben, he is so funny"

I think in the end it will be between Tim (if he does not blow it) and Ben and the latter is obviously the production's wanted winner.

It just does not feel right to me. sometimes he is so shy and then he makes such snarky comments. weird. Maybe I am wrong but as I said it just not feel right and I embrace people who are different.
