OK off the wagon, except to say experiences like crawling around in a 4,500 y/o pyramid tomb or winding your way up a tiny, 1000 y/o turret stair case previously trodden by Henry VIII are extremely forgettable and boring imo. *sarcasm*

(Not sure how such a sizeable fellow as Henry managed the stairs, but creeping around after the maid while Anne B still had her head probably wasn't it, as maid would have been doing the creeping)

I read a simple 5 step program to follow if you need to give an impromptu speech.

1) Good (morning/ afternoon/evening)
2) Say why we're all here.
3) Say something 'we' all think or feel or want.
4) Say why you are the one to be talking, and perhaps give a personal story.
5) Give instructions for everyone to follow.

Eg, Good afternoon everyone we've gathered here to congratulate Dick and Fanny on their anniversary and I know all of us take pleasure in wishing them the best. Now, I've known Dick for a long time now, and I never saw him happy, really happily content, until Fanny came along. So, let's raise our glasses and toast my cheap innuendos.

It works quite well for looking as if you know what you're doing when you have to just make it up on the spot

Cool. Apparently they do all kinds of different speeches at toastmasters.
