It was ok. There were about ten people there. We met at like a food court in Pac Fair. It was just really a getting to know you meeting. talked about our interests in sci fi. I'm really a novice in this area, as my tastes are more towads crime dramas and comedies, but i'm willing to watch more sci fi and become better at it. We also talked about what we wanted to do in the future, like discussions on particular sci fi shows, comic con events, and even going to the movies (there was talk about seeing the pincess bride because they are re-releasing it in event cinemas this year. so that made me smile).

it was kind of exhausting because i find social interaction in real life very draining. but i will go again. i enjoyed it. hopefully i will be able to build up my tolerance until i become "normal".

Just enjoy it. I understand the exhaustion. But it sounds like it was kinda worth it.
Once you get more acquainted with the movies being discussed you will feel more comfortable.
Before you know it your passion and perseverance and creativity evident on here will become 2nd nature to you there after awhile.
I just hope for your new group's sake that Tina Arena doesnt make some arty french science fiction movie.
If that unlikely event were to occur I would jump on a plane to attend that meeting.

Not a big fan of sci-fi but check out Logans run. 1977 I think. Has an interesting enough premise.
It's 2274 and on the surface, it all seems to be an idyllic society. Living in a city within an enclosed dome, there is little or no work for humans to perform and inhabitants are free to pursue all of the pleasures of life. There is one catch however: your life is limited and when you reach 30, it is terminated in a quasi-religious ceremony known as Carousel. Some, known as runners, do try to escape their fate when the time comes and it's the job of Sandmen to track them down and kill them. Logan is such a man and with several years before his own termination date, thinks nothing of the job he does. Soon after meeting a young woman, Jessica-6, he is ordered to become a runner himself and infiltrate a community outside the dome known as Sanctuary and to destroy it. Pursued by his friend Francis, also a Sandman, Logan and Jessica find their way to the outside. There they discover a beautiful, virtually uninhabited world. Logan realizes that he must return to the dome to tell them what he's found and be set free.

That logans run sounds very interesting. But kind of scary as well. i mean if i lived in that time I would only have about another 2 years three months and 29 days until i was killed.

I'm not sure if i should describe any of the members. what is wrong with tina making an artsy french science fiction movie?

Rien. But I am afraid you will insist on 3 separate one hour discussions of Tina's talent, her acting and explaining the romantic ambience of Sorrento moon when addressing Gold Coast members of a Sci-fi club.:p

Bust most importantly. Have fun. Your opinions are not being marked. They are not being judged. They are listened to by people who have similar interests. And are also there to have fun.
Like we do in the Reepbot thread.
When people ask me on the street what my favourite thread is I always answer "What would Reepbot say " thread.
Some people nod and smile.
Others look at me like at me like I am crazy.
But the Reepbot thread wouldnt be for those types anyway.

Haha. That was probably me asking you on the street what your favourite thread was! Normally people look at me like I am crazy. But ocassionally someone answers with the 'What would Reepbot say' of course.

However even taking cartoon physics into account contorting your business end is likely to lead to grumpiness, so I do wonder if that he would always lend a negative spin to a conversation. But as he likes riding the unicycle I can only assume he enjoys the discomfort, so either he enjoys being grumpy or maybe I am projecting the grumpy though.

Provided the octopus likes sweet, which he looks like he would, should be in a good mood. However living in a tree house would be like a fish out of water so may be a bit lonely. Depends whether he is open to making friends with the wider cartoon network. I think conversing with him would be interesting with a sweetness in thought.

To get a balanced discussion maybe both need to partake. If I have to pick one I will pick the octopus, because I have seen hipsters in Melbourne riding unicycles.

Intruiging points there Isee! I mean i think the pencil is used to the pain, and he thinks that being grumpy may work for a little while until he sees some funny cat videos on youtube and becomes happy again. Because there is nothing more hilarious than crazy cats doing crazy stuff! (except maybe a talking watermelon on a late night talk show!)

As for the Octopus, I think I would rather discuss the MASH finale with him as he was actually an extra in the show. Or so he tells me. You know I have watched that finale many times and I still can not see him. He does claim that his part was cut. Apparently he was in a scene with Hawkeye where they were trying to beat a mean General at poker. Why? Because that General hadn't learnt the true meaning of Christmas. I think he might be lying though. So change my answer to the pencil please.
 
So it looks like I am a wizard (why would buzzfeed lie about that? I would trust them to look after my golden sarcastic bird if i even had one. but that would be so cool if i did. I'd get home and ask the bird if it had a nice day and it would reply 'Oh yeah I loved being cooped up in a cage for hours, cawwwwwwwwwwwwwww, cawwwwwwwwwwwwww.' And I would feel guilty about that so I would release the bird who would then proceed to take over the house and then the world in a planned bird revolution.).

Oh wow! Thanks google image shop! That looks very, very wizarrdry. Soon enough i'll be casting spells in my dashing new robe and my....oh wait a minute. I forgot the most important thing: the wand! I can't turn people into opera singing pumpkins, or enable the construction of a one hundred foot tina arena statue on tina arenaland (just an idea i have, still in its early stages) if I don't have a wand.

Well looks like I am all set to do some wizarrding. Don't mind my beard though. It's where i keep my notes of positive reinforcement like 'You can do it reepbot...if you want to. I mean i'm not pushing you. If you don't want to that's fine by me.' and 'you're the best...at something. You have to be. Right? Though if you'rre not then you shouldn't really worry.'

So what spells should i do now?

Sweetgeek returned after a bit of an absence from the forum. Although most people didn't seem to be too concerned about her, seeing they had their own lives to live, there was some speculation by some of the more troublesome members of this forum about why she hadn't been posting here, but that may have been a bit of trolling on their part. Whatever it was, it was not very smart on their part.

Whilst sweetgeek was away there was a lot of arguing. Posters picking fights with each other and being very mean and grumpy. Her calming and happy influence was clearly missed on here. Hopefully her presence on here will enable people to become less angry with each other. Or not. I mean the arguing would still have continued even if she had been here over the past month. She aint no miracle worker.
