Witty Banter, what was it like living in the 80's?
I think the world turned cynical around the 1987-88 crash, deadly diseases (maybe more the spooky ad campaigns) and jobs that don't last a lifetime, so it seemed to be the end of innocence. Houses cost $100,000. Music turned sucky thanks to Guru Josh in 1989. International travel was very expensive, though, so you dressed up and it was a big deal. Hong Kong's Kai Tak airport was in full swing. Roman sandals and two-tone beige Life be in it T-Shirts. Agro's cartoon connection started at 6AM before school with Smurfs, Herculoids and Space Ghost.

Yet, the late 1980s were a time of great hope, the world appeared to be making peaceful and humane civilised moves.
1986 Philippines People's Revolution
1989 Berlin Wall Comes down
Gorbachov came in to power 1990
And Mandela walks free

It seemed like the world could heal itself, maybe - but China had to spoil all that elation with Tiananmen.

In the 1980s you could buy a house in Perth for $30,000.

Everyone was addicted to perms. Love 80s music, New Order particularly changed music and influenced everyone.

1989 seemed to be a world changing year in so many ways.

The 80s were all about the New Romantic pirate shirt wearing man bands. You would have liked the tormented heart wistful songs. OMD - If You Leave, Time Bandits - Endless Road were great.

I know some 80's music like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Phil Collins, Genesis, Fleetwood Mac, and other stuff.

I like some 80's movies. Die Hard is awesome.

Back to the Future!
Teen Wolf!
The Breakfast Club!
Sixteen Candles!
Dirty Dancing!

Did you ever fly into/from Kai Tak? My worse airline landing was in Cusco - we had almost landed and then they aborted it, there were mountains everywhere

I was young and impressionable and we landed at night with buildings barely past the wings it seemed. All other airports seem pedestrian by comparison.

Reminds me, hydrofoil boats were big in the 80s in HK harbour.
