They are not good. Pests, especially the introduced ones. Skinks are much better.
A good solid story, and the environmental theme stands up quite well today. We still don't have teleportation though!
I've always viewed them as pests. Could be from encounters with them years ago in Malaysia. I don't like them. For some reason they don't appeal to me like skinks do. That said, give me a gecko over a bird any day.Not questioning your opinion, but I'm genuinely curious as to why you think of them as pests... Do you have high proportions of geckoes invading your house? They eat insects and don't seem to do much harm. Where I live, you only see a gecko when one of the cats brings one in, then I relocate them back to the garden.
I love all kinds of lizards. I used to keep them as a kid (not just geckoes, but bearded dragons, sleepy lizards & bluetongues).
Best gecko I ever found was one of these, but I didn't kept him, it seemed unfair to cage such a magnificent little creature.

Wouldn't happen. Cold blooded needing warmth from the sun etc in order to be able to move. I guess unless there was a VERY powerful wizard guru master leading the training. Who could somehow distort the sun rays through blizzards. Of is that what you meant?A lizard training to be a wizard in the middle of a blizzard.
But also alarmingthe psychology of the US election is so interesting.
