Was Ryan winning the ultimate proof this was a bad season?

I guess you know more or less how people that hate popular hms (i.e Priya) on this forum feel. :angelic:

Some like to use this forum to voice their support of their favourites whilst others (such as myself) use it to vent about scumbags we detest. They're both perfectly valid reasons to post. :)

Personally I derive more pleasure and enjoyment from 'loving to hate' hms I can't stand.

It feels good to hate, but I don't think I hated any of the housemates this year.

Is this an admission that you enjoyed watching Jade?

:p

Actually the only reason I persist with trolling certain hms is because of how their fanbases respond. A lot of shit was flung Skye's way but I don't remember ever taking umbrage on her behalf wasting time arguing with people for insulting her intelligence, how 'genuine' she was, etc..

It just comes with the territory that people are not going to like a hms for whatever reasons but those fanbases that expect everyone else to 'respect' their favourite 'just 'cos' are ripe for trolling. :smug:

Say what?!

You troll?!?

How could you!

OH MY FUCKING GOD.

We get it you hate Ryan - you think he's boring, disingenuous, won by default, added nothing to the viewing experience or whatever. That's great. These are all just your opinions, opinions that I know are shared by the majority of members here - I'm not blind after all - but they weren't shared by the majority of the voting public nor are they proof that this was a bad season. If you want to know why continue reading because I'll go over some of your opinions and how they differ from mine and then I'll go over why both of our opinions on Ryan have absolutely nothing to do with whether this was a bad season or not.

So first up lets talk about whether he was genuine or not. I notice your argument against is grounded in the fact Skye was surprised by his comments in the secrets episode and somehow that translates into him not being genuine. Firstly that's one HM who I might add was still in there and still wanted to win not to mention Skye and Ryan were never BFF's. You claim this as some proof yet you ignore the endless parade of multiple HMs that said he was the most genuine and honest HM in there. When you're looking at evidence you can't just pick and choose that which points to your favoured conclusion - you have to look at all of it - which is that he was genuine. You believe he held back or played nice. But tell me how was he holding back or playing nice when he had his disagreements with Skye, Travis, Priya? I mean for fucks sake we saw him fight with Priya on MONDAY.

Oh and I'm sick to fucking death of everyone going on and fucking on about 'he wasn't even there for the first four weeks'. So fucking what? While I'll give you that this is true for most of us, I know it was for me, I still don't see how it matters. When I'm deciding who I want to vote for I'm not thinking of how I felt about them x number of weeks ago. I'm thinking about how I feel about them in that moment. That's what this show is - watching the HMs grow, change, evolve, etc. What's the point of watching past the launch if we all just decide our opinions of the HMs on the first night and never change them? Nearly everyone hated Tim in the first week or so, does that mean he shouldn't have won? Fuck no! Just like with Ryan. Sure he may have been missing in the first few weeks but when Nine finally decided to show him I liked what I saw. Why shouldn't I reward that with my votes?

As for this bloody highlights package nonsense. I have to ask did any HM appear in each and every weeks highlights? I doubt it. Then again I wasn't checking like you so I could be wrong. Anyway just because Ryan didn't appear in a minute long recap of 168 hours of raw footage doesn't mean he didn't do anything. If anything it points to what BB has become. You said it yourself BB is a show where people are meant to go into a house and live together. What you failed to mention is how Nine's interpretation of what this means has changed from what it meant in Ten's era. It used to be about watching the everyday happenings and relationships that stemmed from the interaction of 12/14/16 strangers. Now it's about *drama* and *storylines* or rather contrived gimmicks, drama, fights and fauxmances that nine can condense into glitzy 30 second promos to be advertised and then never referenced again. If I wanted endless clips of weave pulling, cat fights and hook ups I'd watch any one of the many other trashy reality shows out there. For real, how many times have people on this forum cried out for the days when we could sit down and watch normal everyday people interacting and having conversations and watch them for longer than 30 seconds before we got a recap from the diary room. What I saw and what I think many others saw in Ryan was a return to the type of HM of old. One which wasn't there for celebrity but was there for the experience. One which didn't try to game the system in order to get airtime. One who was simply themselves. We weren't enamoured by his looks either, if it were that simple Dion would have made it further than he did. We made a connection with Ryan. We related to him. He wasn't a contestant and in a season that had deviated so far from what made Big Brother Big Brother I revelled in it. I revelled in the fact we finally had a normal everyday person. And if you don't see that, don't want to see that or just don't think that's something to admire then fine. But I did. Others did.

I'm most likely never going to change your or anyone else's opinions on Ryan and quite frankly I don't want to. I just wanted to shine a light on the other side of the argument. Fact is seasons over. Ryan won. Was this proof that this season was bad? No. Why? Because a season's worth is not dictated by the winner, influenced maybe but not decided by. The seasons scheduling was atrocious. The desperate gimmicks were atrocious. Most of the time the editing was atrocious. That's all proof the season was bad. The ultimate proof of how bad a season it was will be whether it gets renewed.

So in conclusion Ryan's winning was not tied to the failure of the season. His winning was directly tied to the fact people voted for him. The fact that people saw something in him. The fact that they liked what they saw enough to spend their money. Facts you don't wont to acknowledge but facts which exist nonetheless.

This post took me 21 hours to read as i passed out at my laptop after a week long indifferent experience.

Dont jump to conclusions, now.

I mean, i used to do drugs. I still do, but i used to, as well.

This post has made me see the light.

Thank you.

PS

I would rather circumsize myself with a blunt knife than re read it again, or discuss it in prison.

He wasnt there the first 28 days

Has anyone mentioned this?

Not there...a Lawdawg disappearing act ...'poooof', and he is missing after the commercial break

He added nothing to the house and subtracted from my viewing pleasure by dividing the house in two factions and multiplying the awkwardness surrounding his hidden agenda in the few off camera blind spots, equalling a shit year for BB 2014.

Nothing. Not a thing. Nada, No thing he did was of interest other than almost taking Travi down to funky town when his sister was mentioned in a poor taste satirical attempt by the runner up.

And who the fuck knew Ryan had a sister: let alone 3 of the most fuckable siblings since the final season of the brady bunch??

Nothing.

Yet, as we know, its the bubbles of nothing that make it something

something the rest of us will need to earn about 300,000 to have

and that is 200 gees tax free

fuck ryan

fuck the radar that missed him

fuck the cheats at channel 9 that no doubt gave him this title on a platter

and Estelle aint no dummy...especially if that dummy is part of me, in her mouth

Yep, so a guy that doesn't like the show, thinks it's rubbish TV won it. Insulting to the entire show, the format, those that make it and those that watch it, those that voted for him to win.

Yeps, I still stand by my original statement of this thread. He sums up all that is wrong if he can win.

And to me that's what makes him winning so good, a shit season & he just shit on everyone.

He hated it, didn't apply for it & won it ---- move over @Timdormer you're the puppet master but for someone to win it who only watched it once & didn't even like it, you'll never see anyone with that 'strategy' pull off winning a Reality TV show ever again :p

Credit where credit is due, for Ryan to win it when he doesn't even watch it or like it - that's a pretty good effort :)

I can mostly understand this except I actually don't think he put any effort into winning. He won by the shows failures, rather than anything he did. Hell he didn't even make it into the edit for half the season.

There is something hilarious about this, but as a fan of BB, I just think it sucks that this is where the series has ended up.

That's why I think his winning was great, it was such a slap in the face for their shit season & now that he's dumping on BB & everyone connected with it, its just the ultimate end to a couple of crap seasons under Mavrodikus.
Alex detested Tim running the show last year & this year someone who doesn't even like the show or applied for it - wins... I don't think I'd be alone thinking that Mav wanted Travis or Skye to win - their shit edit had it so that the least participating character ended up winning, not who they were trying to have win it.... :)

Says a lot for their editing skills....

I guess we're mostly on point for the same conclusion.

Knowing Ryan was going to win, I actually thought there was a bit of more Ryan than normal towards the end.

One little pro-tip I noticed was that Ryan did narrate a lot. Which was handy for the edit. To me I think it was part of his, well I guess maybe effort, but his fake facade was trying to constantly explain and say things so we don't observe. Although actually this is the 100% most likely to be provided by BB. Get someone in the diary room, ask them and if they are liking Ryan who sits back doing little. He's in a better position to explain things, then with him trying to be fake and positive. That goes with the fake and positive tone NINE demands the BB team to deliver.

Skye was an airhead, and Trav was a bit of one at the start but improved greatly. His final aguement with Priya was cogent and well erudite.

One thing I think people are missing is schooling. I think Ryan may have been privately schooled & BB was full of bogans this year. His quiet demeanor is in contrast to the raucous cacophony around him.
