THE VIRUS 2020 - the good, the bad, and the ugly

Security guard at hotel contracted by the Victorian Government doesn’t follow protocol allowing for the virus to spread. You know the story…

Over half of Australia’s COVID deaths came from that one incident last year.
The government made that guy make sexy time with someone in quarantine? Wow. Yeah they definitely shouldn't have done that.

Perhaps the guards would have been better with an induction longer than 10 minutes? Pretty obvious where you stand anyway Timmy. So far left to the point of no return.

Last pandemic in the 1900s was over in 3 years, no VAX, and medical treatments are now in a whole new universe
They didn’t have lot to help them back then

But people were fewer, and far more isolated back then, no planes to spread germs globally

This one should be more comparable to the last SARS outbreak but really they are not.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002–2004_SARS_outbreak

Only lasted 2 years but I think this one will go for way longer…

What can we do about people who have their mask just over their mouth?
They really annoy me, and mostly males I have found.
And non maskers?

I thought of just asking, but they may be crazy and hit me
Might take a photo and send it to......???

Thanks @timmy .....and so fast, I got to edit and fix it

@Affable you have a tendency to label everyone that has a kinder, gentler, softer point of view
as loony lefties, oh well happy to be in the kinder club😊

I do sympathise with you and all younger people you have a shit world to inherit
I would be angrier too if I was younger

This helps visualise how Covid compares to other pandemics in terms of deaths.
Interesting. Covid will likely overtake the Antonine Plague soon.

Some weird autocomplete seems to have screwed with the Covid dates. Probably meant to be 2019-9-30 (30 Sep 2019) but it's been changed twice to 2019-9.30AM PT with the creator of the graphic apparently not noticing.

That’s your view but that’s not how I see it. Problem for me lies in the distinction between centre left and partisan left.

Centre left: Left leaning who can hold their own governments to account.
Partisan left: Usually far left who cannot hold their governments to account. Think their own party (usually ALP) are perfect and criticise right parties at their own will.

This forum, in my view, is filled with partisan lefts who never hold their own governments accountable but freely criticise Morrison and Gladys. If you think that your view is a “kinder view”, then you are largely mistaken.

@Affable I actually think Dan's biggest failing was to try and lockdown specific buildings and suburbs in the initial stages of the first big Melbourne outbreak. He should have gone bigger and harder with the lockdown from the very start. Pretty sure I have commented on this before. He finally got the message and did the right thing which did indeed end that outbreak. Gladys learned nothing from this. She did exactly the same thing and of course it exploded in even more spectacular style (likely because it was Delta variant). Look at NZ's latest outbreak. Jacinda Ardern locked down Auckland for a week, and the entire country for three days based on a single case. But within 24 hours it was 10 cases and 48 hours was 21 cases. That really shows you cannot be too careful. It's like finding a mouse in your house. Do you really think there's only one mouse?

Glad to see a measured response.

Only Premier who I think has done good in this pandemic is McGowan. Some may see it as strict but his approach is keeping case numbers low which I have respect for.

You are right about this. I am angry. I don’t like seeing the world destroyed right in front of me like what is happening.

We're all exhausted with this. When I turn on TV in the morning to catch some news, it's like some macabre telethon now. Just want it to be over. But there's no realistic way forward without masks, vaccinations and lockdowns for the time being. At some point we'll just have to have enough faith in the vaccines (and by that I mean enough people vaccinated) to open up again, but we're not at that point yet.

People are genuinely overly scared of this virus thanks to the fear mongering of media organisations and politicians. Sure there are plenty of deaths but most of Victoria’s came from the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.

True, I mean death could come to any of us at any moment, especially if you're above a certain age or have health conditions. We've done the best we can to make sure the health system is not overburdened. But once eighty percent is reached then no more lockdowns.

Must have been a scary time for you, kxk.

Almost as good as reepbot wit, don’t care much for your new tag
Good idea tho, to throw some of your meaner trolls off track

Wow such a great day for washing, everything dries in 30mins, it’s like being back in my old WA coastal home...wind so fierce it brought hot windsurfers from Europe and blew chain links apart

Thought that was age shaming by Columbo but wasn’t sure which pandemic was being referred to. Not good at all.

Columbo is a much better name imo.

Will you be going to any protests in the future? Apparently there was a big protest at the Qld/NSW border today. I was actually around that area yesterday.
