THE VIRUS 2020 - the good, the bad, and the ugly

This thread is just so negative at the moment. It's a million miles away from the original purpose. How many pages of Real Housewives gifs did I have to scroll through? There is nothing to add here anymore. Maybe it's a way to get through Lockdown?

I think everyone's political leanings have been established. We are just going to go round and round in circles now. No one's opinion is going to change on either side. It's just going to end up the same arguments and insults each discussion.

Affable can post as many Sky News videos as he wants. Maybe this can be the "Right Wing" club thread? The last 20 pages or so have felt a bit like that. But I will just have to accept this because you have the right to your beliefs and so do I.

I don't need to respond to everything I disagree with and vice versa. What's the point?

From a loony left!

...again with the accusations... when did I call you complacent?
I was referring to population density especially in big centers like Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Karachi, Islamabad, Teheran, Kairo etc.
If you have ever visited one of those places for more than just a night's stay over, you will ask yourself how, with such antiquated hospitals and medical equipment and the shortage of well trained medical workers, a virus such as C19 can be contained so quickly and kept in check when compared to some Western countries.
You will also ask yourself how reliable the figures being paraded can be when considering the outdated, awkward workings and machinations of the bureaucracy, mostly remnants from colonial times. Unlike your phone, they never got regular updates.
Often, considérations must be given to beliefs and other cultural sensitivities such as 'saving face'.
All of this is just the tip of the iceberg. Suddenly, the numbers on our stats table begin to look suspicious and you wonder how countries that were in danger of great damage to their population, food production and transport and other basics to just survive, how they miraculously managed to bring those numbers on our stats table down.

How do you think this is possible?
In all honesty I would never have expected countries like India to fare very well with a virus like covid when countries like Australia with its sparse density and march larger budgets for medical equiptment etc have had its outbreaks. So yes I am skeptical about the figures. What you are referring to here is more about systemic issues of the overpoplation of India and not about PM Modi himself, and how he is handling Covid worse than Trump specifially, which was your original criticism. As Trump has had none of those issues you have just mentioned to contend with (antequated hospitals and medical equitment and a shortage of well trained medical workers) America should not be doing as horriffically bad accross the board as it is if Trump was doing a good job. By the way as Trump demanded that the US government takes control of all the Covid stats from the CDC a few weeks ago (and then suddenly numbers started to drop) I am also skeptical about US figures too.

Peta Credlin at 0:32: "Businesses are reporting more and more that they're struggling to fill positions, and many of them say this is because people would rather stay at home and be paid to do nothing, so how widespread is this experience?"

I hope the upcoming warmer months will help Victoria, along with the rest of Australia, in enabling them to fight the virus.

So this is why he was a Trump supporter?

Nope

Well of course Trump will be trying to look after the American people as best he can. Of course he's not perfect being only human. And there are some policies of his I do disagree with. However I feel his heart is in the right place in making America great again.

And I don't think communication style changes minds, it can however resonate with people who share your point of view. And enough people felt a connection with Trump to enable him to enter the White House.
