THE VIRUS 2020 - the good, the bad, and the ugly

Problem is we normally see Credlin or Sky News videos constantly being posted here. I hardly see anyone challenging those videos. Debate should be allowed.

The opinions of Peta Credlin are harmful and damaging to society. Columbo is saying that all opinions shouldn’t be embraced equally because of the biogtry and misinformation and consequences of them.

Just look at the unnecessary hatred and fear of the so called “Carbon Tax” that Credlin orchestrated. Long lasting damage to Australia.

Should people with White Supremacy views be allowed to sprout their opinion? No! It’s damaging.
As someone who has challenged those videos it can be difficult if people don't want to have a debate/discuss back, and just start a wall of gifs. I have done my own research and challenged my own thinking but often don't bother posting it on here any more because this forum does nott seem open to those discussions unfortunately.

I challenge non-sense when I see it. I just know better than to click on a video of Credlin and rarely do.

I find it interesting to see other peoples opinions, even if I disagree vehemently.

If you still uncritically trust the Victorian government then you "deserve to be ruled by arrogant incompetent ingrates,” according to Sky News host Rita Panahi.

I'm curious to know (as we're in lockdown number four) why it is Victorians always get the rough end of the pineapple? The State Government says it is all the Feds fault...slow vaccine roll out and their reluctance to finance and build purpose built quarantine facilities...seems reasonable to me. BUT if that is the reason why aren't other States having the same problem as us?

I don't want to start another flame war but I would genuinely like to know the opinions of others here who are far more knowledgeable on the topic than I am.

Simply because it is not the Federal Government's fault but as usual deflection by the left wing activists of Victoria.

I read that Victoria rejected assistance with contact tracing, and that is very stupid as far as I’m concerned. NSW’s success has largely been due to its very quick contact tracing.

Respectfully, Victoria does have a habit of playing the blame game, rather than accepting responsibility. Have the Feds done a good job managing COVID? Not really. But are the Feds responsible for Victoria entering its 4th lockdown? Absolutely not.

In saying that, Queensland is in a similar predicament, just without the COVID cases. Queensland have also had a poor response to the pandemic, and rather than accept responsibility for their actions and find a solution, they go cap in hand to the federal government asking for money.

Blaming other people seems to be the go to these days in politics. It’s easier than fixing your own fuck ups.

The time SA went into lockdown was because one pizza delivery guy lied about where he had been. yes we were lucky that once they realised that they lifted the lockdown after three days, but that still impacted a lot of fresh food at restaraunts and loss of income over three days. I know we have had it lucky in comparison but there is mistakes being made in state govenments in every state. I am not excusing Vic Gov for thier mistakes I am just saying this is one of those times where it is not a left or right leaning issue.

Good of you to give the benefit of the doubt.

I don't think you can compare the two though. Your state had 1 lockdown lasting no longer than a week. VIC had 4 lockdowns which total over half a year. There are fundamental issues in Victoria. One of those being the delusional Victorian government thinking that their HQ system is the "gold standard".

QLD Government closed their border and killed their tourism industry while locking other Australian's out and then blame the Federal Government when their economy goes downhill. LOL. Huge hypocrites.

If you take evolutionary biology into account. Nowhere should have had phased rollouts where the virus is present in any significant number. They also shouldn't be vaccinating until they have enough doses stored to rapidly vaccinate everyone in the shortest period possible.

Younger people are more likely to be asymptomatic and therefore less likely to spread the virus than older people. So they vaccinate the older people first. When the virus is in the community spreading. This is putting an evolutionary pressure on the virus to adapt to be more symptomatic and able to spread amongst younger people. Putting more people at risk.

When you're slowly rolling out the vaccine, you're giving the virus plenty of time to adapt to new variants to get around the vaccine. As opposed to vaccinating everyone extremely rapidly and the virus is stopped without time to evolve.

I suspect some of the new more dangerous variants evolved in places where there had already been a lot of spread of the virus. As a result of ever-growing sections of the population having some immunity. This created a pressure on the virus to become more contagious and dangerous. This is what slowly vaccinating people in a place with the virus spreading will do.

Just look at this article from February.

Survey finds 56% of Delhi has COVID antibodies, adding to India’s declining cases mystery

Covid cases declining, more than half the population has antibodies. All across India anti-body testing was showing the real numbers of cases was extremely higher than the official tally. Which is why I harp on about comparing case numbers and deaths between a lot of countries isn't at all accurate. Anyway, lots of people with anti-bodies, cases dropping and then BOOM. A new dangerous variant evolves that is worse.

A slow vaccine rollout creates similar evolutionary pressures. It's one of those curious areas of "we follow and trust the science" that has been ignored. It appears no consideration or at least public discussion has been made about this by those in charge of the vaccine rollouts across the globe.

Not true. Who were they compelled by to close their border? If you close your border and lose money, that is your problem. Not the Federal Government's.

I meant they had to close it to protect the Queensland people. As someone in Queensland I'm glad they did that.

Well then, don't complain when you lose money for actions that you took. Any state had the option of closing their border. Tough luck.
