The Bachelorette

I think she dug a bit of a hole by saying that she was the 'last person to be impressed by status'. I like that her car was super humble and not showy....but impressed by status, I think medium to high :p If she chooses plumber Dave and settles down in NT, I'll eat my words.

I thought I wouldn't get into Bachelorette...but I am. Bring on Sasha does Chef! Mondays and Tuesdays are a TV drought.

Don't believe Dave lives in NT - his family does - he said he goes up to visit twice a year. Think he's living in Sydney.

Why Laurina Fleure wasn’t asked to be The Bachelorette

SHE won Australia over when she chucked a tantrum at the idea of eating a “dirty street pie” and, after being sent home by Bachelor Blake Garvey last season, was tipped to become the first Bachelorette.

But according to Laurina Fleure, production company Shine decided she wasn’t the right fit to star in the debut season of the dating show. Why? Because she’s too “ambitious”.

“They wanted me to bullsh*t them and say, ‘no, no, my single, only priority in life is finding love’, and I couldn’t tell them what they wanted to hear,” the straight-talking businesswoman told news.com.au.

Fleure, 31, said viewers weren’t fooled by any Bachelor contestant who claimed they were simply on the show for love. “It’s this whole taboo thing. You have to bullsh*t and say, ‘oh no, I’m just a numpty who only wants to be on this completely personally exposing experience to find love.’

“If anything, I think you seem like a bit of a naff if you’ve got that mentality.”

The model and fashion designer said she was called in to interview for The Bachelorette and the people at Shine expected her to gush about her ongoing quest for love and how it was her number one priority, but she was unwilling to do that on national television.

“They said to me, ‘How are we going to convince Australia that you’re here to find love and not just to promote your business?’

“And I said, ‘what’s wrong with admitting that you get other good perks out of an experience like that?’ I’m not ashamed to admit that.”

The Melbourne-based boutique owner has been watching The Bachelorette and said Sam Frost was the right choice because she was “the storyline continued”.

“Sam is doing really well, I knew she’d do really well because I know her personally and I know what an awesome chick she is,” Fleure said.

“I’m really enjoying the different dynamic (of the show), I think it’s better than The Bachelor. They’ve picked out a bunch of really cool guys and it takes the calibre up.”

Fleure is now happily loved-up with Melbourne businessman Lewis Romano, whom she met four months ago through mutual friends while holidaying on the Amalfi Coast.

She said she felt an instant connection with Romano, who owns his own company, SpotJobs, with a friend. “We were fascinated by each other, there was a lot of chemistry and banter there and we were really magnetised towards each other,” Fleure said, adding that after just four days together they ran off to Rome and “fell in love”.

“He’s really clever and I really love that about him because he’s so inspiring in terms of my business, he’s really encouraging and supportive and he’s done it before so he knows what he’s doing.

“I wanted to meet someone who loves how ambitious I am, and they can’t have that for The Bachelorette Australia.”

The brunette beauty, who bowed out fifth in the race for Garvey’s heart, admitted dating post-Bachelor was tough and she found it hard to trust anyone.

“There were a few guys, but a lot of them were just chasing me because of Bachelor, you could tell they were just wanting me to satisfy their ego.

“It sort of seemed like too much work to go out and have to pretend to be someone else, to have to pretend to be perfect, all that bullsh*t that comes with dating.”

Still, she credits The Bachelor as “one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life” for a few reasons. “Not only was it one of the funniest experiences ever because it was like a three-month slumber party, but it pretty much established my business and my brand.

“I was pushing sh*t uphill before The Bachelor, there was no brand awareness and after the show it was established and now it’s ticking over nicely.”

As for her 28-year-old beau — Romano hadn’t seen his new girlfriend on the hit reality TV show prior to meeting her. Fleure has since shown him “Laurina’s Best Bits” on YouTube, which includes that ill-fated “dirty street pie” date with Garvey at Harry’s Cafe de Wheels in Sydney.

“I think he was quite enamoured with that, I got a hook in him by showing him that,” she laughed.

She did? She was certainly talked about, but I've never heard of anyone who liked her, who did she win over exactly?

I liked her for the entrainment value. I preferred to watch her over a lot of the girls who were pretty dull IMO.

I liked Laurina. She had spunk and in the end wasn't swept along in the Bachelor bubble like all the others. She would have been too opinionated to be the bachelorette. The producers wouldn't have been able to mould her into what they wanted.

I liked that she had the balls to pretty much tell Blake "look this just isn't on Buddy". Usually the girls just fall at the Bachelor's feet and don't question anything.
