The Bachelor Australia 2016

I've never seen this many grown women so completely obsessed with their Dad's opinion on this franchise before.

Nikki broke the mould, but is talking intemittently in a baby voice, or like he's her cute little toddler. Weird.

Alex

Alex has a five-year-old son, Elijah, who she proudly told Richie about from episode one. Alex was once married to Elijah’s father, Joel Porter, who according to New Idea is totally hating that she is on the show.

“When he heard that Alex was going on The Bachelor, he was not elated. What man likes to turn on the TV and see his ex-wife flirting and cavorting in front of another man she’s hoping to walk into the sunset with.”

Prior to appearing on the show, Alex had come out of a 15-month relationship with engineering student Tom Barbour, who was left disabled after severing his spinal cord in an accident on a construction site.

I was betting he will dump Olena or please run girl

Rachel was shocked Alex made the top three

The confident brunette says she never thought single-mum Alex would be a real contender.

After a great home-town visit Rachel was left stunned when Richie sent her home on The Bachelor tonight.

Things went so well with her family she even began planning her life with Richie.

“Reflecting on the home-town visit I just thought, ‘That really couldn’t have gone any better’,” she tells TV WEEK.

“I really started to imagine what life would be like with Richie and all the adventures that we’d go on, you kind of start planning your future a little bit.

“So I actually really felt confident standing at the rose ceremony I just thought, ‘Yep I can’t see how there could be any mishaps here’. So it just came as total shock for me.”

But the biggest shock for Rachel however, was that single-mum Alex had been chosen in the top three alongside Nikki and Olena.

Rachel says Richie had spoken to her family about what he wants in his future and children were not a priority.

“I was the most surprised about Alex,” she admits. “Just because he had mentioned his life plans and children sort of came last and he made it known to my family as well.

“I think that’s also why I felt so confident I’d be in the top three. Especially when it’s coming from the horses’ mouth that he doesn’t want children now.”

Rachel thought she was a shoo-in for the top three

She said Richie really wanted a life full of spontaneity and adventure and she just couldn’t imagine Alex being able to offer him that.

“He said how he really wants someone he can live life with first, he wants to go travelling with his partner and living together was important for him too, then marriage and children were way down the track,” Rachel says.

“So to me when I hear that from him I didn’t think the he’d be leaning towards choosing someone who already has a child.

“Not that it’s not a bad thing, but it just didn’t fit in with the picture he was painting for his future.”

Rachel, who says she’s still single, admits she’s still mystified about why things didn’t work out with Richie and that’s been the most difficult part for her.

“There wasn’t really any explanation as to why,” she says.

“So it took me quite a few days to just process things and it was a while before it really hit me.

“Then you start questioning, ‘What have done wrong? Was there something you didn’t like about me?’ I think that’s been the hardest part, just not knowing why.”

I was shocked too! I definitely get the vibe that Richie isn't really interested in an instant family. He should have just cut her loose already.

Looking forward to seeing Richie a normal colour in the final three dates, which seem to be set outdoors (in Bali? c/- women's mags?).

He looked like a reheated corpse in that final rose ceremony. They should sack the makeup person. Way too much base on the man. He's got freckles, let them shine! Osher looked painted also. I get that they need to do something, what with the brightness of those tv lights, but this is the first series of the B I've seen several times that the lead is actually plastered in makeup. Not good.

I feel it may reflect poorly on Richie to take Alex this far and not give her the final rose, only due to the single mum thing. That said, her situation is quite different to Snezana's with shared parenting and on better terms with her ex-husband etc, still, if he is set on Nikki he probably should have sent Alex home already.

Also, you guys, why is no one talking about Megan and Tiffany probably-almost-definitely now being a couple? The true love story of this season, perhaps.

First I've heard of it! Just googled the story. Though I barely remember Tiffany.

Alex Nation 'DUMPED her disabled ex-boyfriend and made a deal' with The Bachelor producers to guarantee a spot in the final five

She's the mother-of-one whose chemistry with Richie Strahan has taken her all the way to the finale of The Bachelor.

But Alex Nation may have had a secret advantage, with New Idea claiming the 24-year-old negotiated a guaranteed spot in the top five with the show's producers 'because she would be away from her son' Elijah.

And the timing of the show has also left the blonde's ex-boyfriend Tom Barbour, 23, questioning their sudden split last year.

Advantage? The reality TV starlet told friends she 'made a deal' with the producers to guarantee herself a top five spot on the show

According to close friends, Tom was 'blindsided when Alex said she wanted it all to end' following a 15-month romance that was seemingly going well.

'She had told some friends that because she would be away from her son, she insisted the producers make it worth her while, and made a deal that she would make the final five,' the source revealed.

'So even if she didn't win, it would help her profile and acting aspirations.'

Blindsided: Friends close to the pair say Tom was taken aback by Alex's decision to break up their 15-month romance

Meanwhile, the weekly tabloid has also revealed Tom escaped on a European trip to avoid watching his former love fall for someone else on TV.

Currently in Sweden, the student began his six-month holiday and exchange trip back in July.

'He had so many unanswered questions from Alex it was making him crazy because he knew she had moved on, so he decided to do the same,' the insider told the publication.

Close: Tom was friends with the single mother for 10 years before the pair began dating

Alex and Tom were friends for 10 years before dating, and the Victorian beauty previously said: 'I thought he was the one I'd marry and settle down with.'

But the part-time model broke up with the university student - who was left a paraplegic after he fell 9m from a construction site - last year after a 15-month romance.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, Alex claimed Tom is 'probably the first person (she) ever loved,' despite the fact she was previously married.

According to New Idea, Alex 'insisted' producers promise her a spot in the top five as she'd be away from her son Elijah

Speaking of Tom's accident, she explained: 'He'd fallen nine metres and severed his spinal cord, but we fell madly in love and I renovated my house so he could move in with me.'

Meanwhile, Alex shocked viewers when she decided not to introduce her five-year-old son to Richie during home visits last week.

Speaking to Mamamia, the aspiring actress said: 'I didn't want to put pressure on him or confuse him.'
