Q. Have any of the women mentioned their periods synchronising?

It is a phenomenon that women working or living in close proximity synch up.

We've all experienced it. Flatmates etc.

Mikk mentioned being pre-menstrual once I think. Not to air I don't think so she musn't be on a monophasic fulltime. I think she gets really bloated too.

Be interesting if they are in synch with everything so amplified in there. Wonder if it blows the dynamic. Couldn't imagine being on staples pre-menstrual. I have to have chocolate.

All the latest evidence points to it being a myth that women cohabiting sync their periods.

Kind of like if you look at a group of windshield wipers on cars, for a certain amount of time they will look like they are in sync before they get out of step with each other. Due to the differences in cycles and the environmental factors that can affect them, there will inevitably be certain times when women will all appear to be in sync but the results show it to be simply a matter of chance.

From what I can see online the research is divided.

Have you never experienced it? Gosh, I've never met anyone who hasn't, male or female.

Synching up to the day from being weeks apart and staying in synch. In fact, a friend of mine who had sporadic periods was really happy a woman moved in who had a rock solid 28 day cycle. Because after she moved in they went into synch within two months and my friend's freaky cycle got sorted.

It's well documented in women's prisons. I guess the BB house is kinda a prison.

The anecdote might make a good story, and it might explain the "shared experience" women feel about menstruation but it simply doesn't match the facts of peer reviewed papers made in the last decade.

They have done research using blind pheromone studies, university dorms, twins and even lesbian couples with all reports of synchronisation being within the normal boundaries of chance.

When the research is done long enough at some point cycles will coincide and then diverge after that. Whilst the women will over report they are in sync it is within the chance of their different individual cycles converging for a moment in time.

Also the pheromone mechanism with which was the basis of this hypothesis, has also turned out to be a myth itself. With a tendency to over report syncronization and no support from comparative research, this is a myth.

I don't believe that. My daughter and i get ours within 24 hours of each other and we aren't regular either our cycles are always different anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks

I think you find that (but i'm not asking you to do this!) if you both did detailed logs of your periods over time you will find it within the normal boundaries of chance. Anecdotes from the research subjects has had similar "experiences" but in the end the facts show it's within the normal range of chance.

I just know that we've been this way for a couple of years now, it's become a bit of a joke between us, when one gets hers we txt the other to let her know hers is coming lol
I've never lived with another woman but when i was younger my best friend and i both started ours within a few days of each other and then again out second period which was 6 months later was on the same day

I always joke that periods are contagious lol

I am happy to tell you what happens when the house experiences thier menzies, big brother supplies Tampons and Pads to every women when its their time of the month. but Tahan has used up most of the heigine products for her own pleasure to stir the pot
