Survivor Season 33

I actually loved the whole finale. Seeing Jay and Brett voted out was satisfying, and I liked the final four.

However, I knew Adam would cry and play the sympathy card, and I don't think that's enough of a reason to win.
Jay playing the fake idol was so funny! LOL
As to Adam, I think they picked the one they had more of a relationship with, the cancer thing was the show's "promo"

The returning players seem a bit underwhelming so far. Who on earth is Caleb? I vaguely remember him, but why bring him back?

I liked him a lot more at that moment, just the whole "aww you guys got me good" and laughing it off scene. Quite the opposite of Bret's bitter exit and first jury appearance.

Yes. I ended up liking him after he was voted out, unlike Brett who was arrogant and bitter to the very end.

Also, I am glad that Adam got home in time. When I read that his mother had died a day after FTC I didn't think he could possibly have got back in time, but I expect he got express treatment. Or maybe it's standard practice to have the jury and remaining contestants on the absolute first available flight back to LA? Although I'd have thought the F3 would get a day or two to recover before departing.

Adam still would've won without the stuff about his mother, just like how Jeremy was going to win even if he didn't mention Val's pregnancy in Cambodia. The edit *really* didn't support Adam winning unanimously at all, but that jury was never going to vote for Hannah or Ken.

Beast Mode Cowboy?! He got medivaced in that intense sand challenge in the heat in Debbie and Tai's season; he was Tai's crush and seemed a genial fellow who was very good in challenges - I'm glad to see him play again.

What a shit result. Fuck Hannah and Ken for screwing over the season's true winner David. And so much for Adam playing the game "not playing on pity" for the entire game... until in front of the final TC jury.

He definitely got the pity vote (and it seemed they were all aware of his mother's plight at TC regardless). If it wasn't going to be Dave, then Hannah should have taken it out. Meh.

When Dave was voted out I just skipped to the winner vote, I assume Adam was crying again in his final speech. I suppose it was kind of satisfying that Ken was ignored at the reunion, though it would have been interesting to have had him questioned about why he thought he was beat Adam. Probst made an indirect comment about the 'only person who was loyal' perhaps when he talked to Jessica. Though Jessica was silly giving the heritage advantage to Ken when Dave had saved her. Also drawing rocks saved Hannah (from what I remember) and not Dave like they seemed to suggest on the show.

Ken had a bond with Dave from the start. He even talked about them just battling it out fairly over making fire. Maybe he thought it was his big move, ended up a losing move anyway. He would have come across better just letting it go to fire. Hannah also would never have beaten Adam either so she might as well have kept loyal to Dave.

Some general points on the final episodes:

Probst goes on way too much about how people develop on the show, and the usual boring US approach of trying to find messages/moral examples for people.

The final challenge sadly was not designed that well, the wind should not decide challenges. But I do like how they didn't make all the individual immunity challenges balancing with strength.

A lot was made of Jay not covering his number, but from what I heard there were only about six combinations or something, so I'm not sure the challenge was completely decided there. The final puzzle was really the main thing.

Caleb is someone who was on Big Brother, though he was regarded as a bit of a joke on it really.

And he's returned because of Big Brother, definitely not because of Survivor (he hardly lasted at all). The irony was he was put on as he was thought muscular and so able to cope with the challenge, how wrong that proved. Game changer my ass.

Ahh, but that was balanced out by the time limit, which gave them the option/strategy of not building too high and hoping your opponents' stacks might fall in the breeze. It gave it elements of both luck and judgement.

I never like the wind playing a part in challenges really because it may depend where you are placed and if that gives you some portion of shelter.

just putting it out there.

the fact that Caleb Reynolds is a two-time player and Shane Powers isn't makes me sick.

Oh, and I wish like hell they had polled the jury who they would have voted for had it been a Hannah-Ken-Dave final 3.

From EW:

DW: I have to give you a what-if scenario that you are going to absolutely hate, but from everything you saw, what if Bret, Dave, and Jay are in the final three and you are on the jury? How do you vote?

JP
: It’s a fun question — let me start with this…. During the live reunion show, I intended to ask the following question, but ran out of time: “If David had made it to the end, does he win?” And I know from polling the jury pre-show that it was unanimous. So we can safely conclude that David would have won against Hannah, Ken, and Adam. But Bret and Jay… now it gets complicated. That would have been a crazy-tough decision. Three completely different games played by three very different guys.

yeah, it's not hard to figure out that just about anyone would've beat Hannah and Ken in the end. Even Adam, who they justified their vote for with reasons such as "well he didn't play well but he tried to!!!" when they could've just said they liked him more. I think my biggest frustration with this season (and trust me there are many) is the selling of Adam was a strategic winner when he was a social one.

But we all know how well social winner Michele Fitzgerald went over...

I wish they'd bring back the viewer's choice award (or Sia would cough up again).
David would have that one in the bag.

Was the reunion any good? I heard the winner confirmed and thankfully flipped in time for Outlander, best show currently on free tv.
