Survivor AU - Redemption

Episode 5 was somewhat better than episode 4.
Harry was very disappointing. Had such high hopes for his game but seems he only had any sort of game when he had an idol in his pocket in his past season. His social game has proven overrated. Good on him giving it a shot though. I did love Simon having a cry then that was so sweet 😂 😝

Looking forward to seeing episode 6.

I give episode 5 a 5/10 and episode 4 a 2/10 for entertainment.

Episode 6 was a lot more fun, or at least the Mary Jane made it seem so 😂 😝

I am actually enjoying the production quality, and I think that is underrated in this new season. Superb shots. Also they have picked some strong characters, each unique and all seem very much invested and fighting to get to the end, no bullshit waste of a spot players..

But….Matt Rogers bro Don is just so bad. Has got no survivor spidey sense. Maybe a good country singer but his sense of seeing what the fuck is going on is non existent 😝

There are some terribly bad players and I feel very invested in seeing their torches get snuffed.

Players that need to get their torches snuffed ASAP, not because they’re bad but because they don’t have what it takes imo
Sally, Loz, Richard and Im starting to not like Faith, although their conspiring is bringing some entertainment to the fore.

Currently backing: Aisha, Lottie, Blanche and Keeley.Lyndl

Swap is gonna shake things up for sure.

Well it’s a bit sad that it’s basically a wasteland in the chats here, was hoping for more dialogue about the game itself more than constant focus on the format, Worried about the future of the show now with fans dropping like flies.

No other channel will pick this up, a show that has been dropping in viewers since the first season are not going to get jumped on by other channels. I don’t trust those other channels either to do a better job about it.

It will basically be like season 1+2 quality. That will really land the show in the shithole if that ever happens.

I suggest if you like the show that you give it plays on streaming platforms, despite your dislike about the host.

The host is only 15% of the show. It’s about the players. Get over it.

Yes it's about the players and the gameplay. They have also been shit.

Im in WA so I dont check in here til I've seen it, but didnt want to double post too much either! Although that doesnt seem to be a rule on this forum.

They don't see Simon as a threat, which is hilarious. If he gets to merge, he will be once he wins some individual immunities. I was sad to see Harry go, and I hope Mark is swift enough to control the vote before they get him. Marks gameplay was part of the reason that Feras' win was so good! They were both playing, which makes for better tv. Brooke and Simon are just brawn. Harry would have kept the game entertaining. His flint thing was excellent! Until Jackson threw him under the bus. I would like to see the extended tribal version of that one.

Lottie is causing them to play safe, but not getting Lyndl out was a mistake, they could have got her before she got too paranoid. I dont like Lyndl at all and now she has more chances to play her idol right. Lyndl has less ties to her original tribe too, shes a danger to Lotties play, unless Lottie can get her securely onside.

EDIT - Oh i just had a thought, is Lyndls idol the same as Brookes? In that she was limited to how many tribals it was active for? So now it doesnt have any power? But could still be used as a bluff.

It was smart to get Johnson out, one because he takes up too much screen time, and two, because he has game experience. Collaborating is safer than targeting, but both Mark and Johnson were playing that strategy, so it was going to be one or the other and I'd rather see Mark keep playing. His confessionals are far more entertaining (and setting him up for a big fall which will also be satisfying) But I respect his game!

Tonight's ep was a bit better than the first 6 IMO. IDK what it is but I just can't warm to the season compared to others, I feel like this is the worst season (at least so far) since Blood vs Water. Which is such a shame because we were on such a roll with Heroes vs Villains, Titans vs Rebels (I have my own issues with this season but I understand why fans love it) Brains vs Brawn 2 (which is my personal fave) and then AU vs The World.

It's not even David thats the issue for me, I actually argue that he's improving each ep. I'm forgetting about the whole JLP fiasco more and more as it goes on but damn this cast feels like a random selection of recruits. I don't even know who half of these people are and I actually find this group of newbies to be quite unlikeable.

Not to also mention Simon and Brooke are not getting enough screen time compared to Mark when they are actually the more likeable returnees. I wish there were no returnees this season, I feel Harry's 3rd chance was always going to come but it was wasted by throwing him into a season of newbies who were not going to let him get more than a couple rounds into the game.

For me right now I'm way more invested in Survivor US season 50. This is just very unfortunate timing/circumstance for Australian Survivor, and the ratings don't aid with that. Its 17% down on last year's Season and 22% down on AU vs The World. The rumour mill suggests two seasons are being filmed in Malaysia for next year so who knows whats in store.

We need less returnee seasons though, there is already a great pool of people to choose from with previous two seasons but they keep bringing people back unnecessarily. If they just hold off a little bit we can actually have a full 24 returning player season. I'm ranting a lot now so I digress.

I generally work at the time the show is on, but in the past I would watch on catch up the moment I'd get the chance. Now I'm a few episodes behind and I don't care. I might put it on when I feel like I can stomach it, but like many here, I'm far more invested in the American version. And I hate Americans on TV, so that should tell you something 😒

EDIT - Oh i just had a thought, is Lyndls idol the same as Brookes? In that she was limited to how many tribals it was active for? So now it doesnt have any power? But could still be used as a bluff.
It's the same as Brooke's. Brooke I think misunderstood the rules and played it unnecessarily - it can only be played by a Barren on Barren beach. As it happens, Brooke is still a Barren on Barren beach. And Lynl's is still good, as she is still a Bounty on Bounty Beach and her idol is still valid.

I think it also said it can be played until final 5.

I thought it was just me... I just don't like the cast. Harry going was a horrible shock. I actually liked Mark during his season, until he fluffed his game. But he is insufferable this time round and far too foward in the edit for someone quite charmless in this iteration. Last season we had fun characters like Myles and AJ. It feels like they've stepped back in time with the casting. I just have little to no interest in any of them, apart from Simon and Brooke, and maybe Richard! I'm sort of reluctantly duty-watching at this point, which is a first for me with Aus Survivor.

I agree the cast is not nearly as likeable as AJ and Myles were. AJ is one of my all time faves. Mark is obviously being told to ham it up, and Simon leaning into his dumb little puppy dog persona (love both btw).

Lyndl is a villain, big time, Sally, Tez, Cam, Blanche, Loz, Ben useless. Cat could have been a lot of fun! I hate the live tribals cos she would have brought a lot to the game had they not turned on her at the last minute. The players are obvious at this point - Lottie, Faith. Keely, Caleb, lesser so Aisha.

The 3 wise women alliance was smart to turn on Mark, to show they were not just puppets for Mark, but I personally preferred Marks play over theirs. Don was a giant dork, but he was way more entertaining than Sally and likely loyal to Mark. So Mark might not be long for the game if he cant get big numbers on his side. His social game looks way different to the confessionals, which is a fun contrast to watch.

David is starting to make the host role his own, the way he looks like he is part of the fun with his commentary is endearing. He has the experience of being part of the game, rather than "above" the game. I really like the way he gets so excited and teases and laughs along.

For me right now I'm way more invested in Survivor US season 50.
Survivor 50 is a HUGE milestone, so of course its going to beat a run of the mill AU season. I just love having Survivor as a tv staple, so Im not ever going to be down on it much. I was so worried after the shit show of Im a Celeb, that I am relieved and happy that it is just a "normal" survivor season. No trying to make it epic or anything, just fun easy reality watching.

I agree about the cast this Season - rather unlikeable, which doesn't encourage my continual viewership. Mark is quite insufferable and is overplaying the villain role way too much.
As for David - yes, he's improving as host, but he's no JLP.

Thinking back over the Harry vote, they needed TWO game advantages to get him out. Aisha sent Loz away to get in Calebs ear, and Lyndl was set to win that kind of immunity challenge (although it would have been excellent redemption had Harry won that one). He is still a great player, more so defeated by the game than the people playing this time.

I am watching this season but have been on catch up the whole time until tonight.
I think David is a fine host. I kinda wished he was less trying to emulate JLP though and made it a bit more his own, however he isn’t overshadowing the actual cast so I’m happy with his hosting. He’ll only get better as time goes on (hopefully this isn’t the end). I haven’t been following ratings.

I’m still enjoying the game and this show. I wished Cat stayed longer. Don needed to go. They need to get rid of Ben before merge or he will be a pretty huge challenge beast threat.
Keely and Aisha are probably the most interesting players to me atm.
I am remembering that Simon annoyed me with his terrible gameplay but wins me over being such a likeable guy, this season is no different.

I am just happy it all worked out in the end :D So glad they got rid of Lyndl, she would be a challenge threat for any of the balance/endurance challenges and she was just not entertaining, didnt seem to click with anyone and did her own thing. Her idol is gone, so is another in play?

Tez was a mess at tribal! Keely actually managed him well, and it was interesting to see those traits come out in both Keely and Faith on how well they can manage people. They may be a big jury influence.

Why was Mark telling Tez to vote Richard at tribal, and then saying he's useless when he clearly didn't because that would have put three votes on Lindl and three votes on Richard. In case of an idol?! So they could get whoever out on revote? That seems a lot of effort for an easy dull vote.

Little did they know she actually did have an idol. But as if Lindl would ever feel she was on the bottom and use it, even after she got whatsername voted out for daring to tell her that very fact!

Rich is getting hotter. Simon yelling that he can spell after winning the challenge was cute as. 🤣 No one in my real life gets it when I spell it "Surviver" and laugh.

David had such great control over that tribal. Everyone seemed slightly rattled and David managed the refocus well. Full control.

Loved the music at tribal, what a great way to capture the tension and confusion of Tez.

But as if Lindl would ever feel she was on the bottom and use it, even after she got whatsername voted out for daring to tell her that very fact!
Yeah, exactly! Lyndl was just clueless her entire game. She wouldn't have guessed it even if it was obvious.
