I don't understand why Rachel would use her Shot in the Dark when she had an idol though. Could it be that she was well aware of what the plan was (i.e. either Sam or Ciara) and didn't want the survivor of the vote to turn against her later, so it was her way of abstaining from the vote?

She could have been tipped off by Sol on what was happening and as you said this was her way of abstaining,

And/or it was a way of reading the reactions of people when she played it, and she got a bad vibe then she could have played her idol. "Shot and a Chaser" I heard it referred to.

I enjoyed this Auction more than the one in 45. I think they fixed a lot of the issues it had by putting in the cashback and other activities.
 
44-46 was dominated by a few players each season which made for a fairly predictable outcome in the main, though I guess how 46 actually played out at FTC was a slight surprise. But this season feels more even to me, I don't think there's any top tier players so far but there's plenty of decent ones who are having somewhat decent performances so far. Even the lesser tier players like Andy and even Sue have been strategic and entertaining at times.

Is that allowed though? I thought in order to play an Idol, you had to have a vote, and if she plays Shot in the Dark, she no longer does... Maybe I'm mixing something up in my head...

I don't think many people could get away with doing it now that the idea is out there. The shot in the dark is an annoying mechanic in the game.

Especially because it's so obviously rigged to either keep a player in that production wants, or to get rid of a player they don't want.
 
Hmm usually the three hour goes through the top 6 so I would imagine maybe this would split it 6 and 5 one week and top 4 the next? Maybe they are getting rid of f4 firemaking? I would be excited at that but I am also not sure I trust what they would replace it with
 
I think if this is the format they stick with maybe next time they need to rethink that naming. Nobody is buying it! Just call it final 6 and final tribal or something.

I'm actually surprised they voted out Gabe today, if I was there I would have kept the two challenge beasts as shields. Get rid of Genevieve, she's shown that she can't be trusted. Then next time, even if one of the challenge beasts wins immunity, vote out the other. Chances are eventually they'll be able to vote out the second challenge beast down the track, and if not, it's not the end of the world having them at FTC, since getting their place there winning challenges doesn't show much social game, leaving you still well set against them...

They had a tough call to make but I think they made the right one. Gen is obviously playing hard and someone they want to take out - but leaving 4 blue team still in with 8 left means they could force a rock draw the next round and if it went their way they would just head to the final 4 and Gabe or Kyle would have won. At least Gen could wait til the next round unless she wins immunity. They know she has no idol otherwise she would have played it this round. She has no shot in the dark.
 
One thing I like about Survivor is that if you take away all the game mechanics and extra things that production put in to complicate it this is fundamentally very simialr to the premise of what attracted me to start watching BB Aus. Seeing how different people interact. The people and dynamics of this season are just so different than last season.

I don't disagree but the problem is that with how convoluted this show has become, it is impossible to view it while taking away the game mechanics and extra things production has put in. Like, this was the first episode since the Aysha boot where everyone cast a vote. It's literally become Mario Party on an island and that's completely distorted the entire premise of this show.
 
Another boring episode. Shame that this season's such a step back after 45 and 46 especially were so good. This feels just as bad as 43 and 44.
