Ratings Thread 2013

Such poor ratings for Big Brother. Channel Nine is guiding the show away from a social experiment to an entertainment show which I think the majority of viewers do not like. All these tasks and games that Big Brother gives to the housemates in the Diary Room I think is to try and make the Daily Show interesting and entertaining but it is actually having the opposite effect.

Please Channel Nine, give us a social experiment. The entertainment will be created in itself.

This Big Brother isn't appealing to me and already my friend has told me that he isn't bothered to follow the show everyday anymore.

A great show can be created with this amazing cast of housemates.
There are so many stories behind each character:
Matt and his army stories, Mikkayla and racism attacks and wanting to get eye surgery to look more Caucasian, Tully and stories about her mum and her mum's condition. Maybe Ben even has some stories to share about Mum and Nanna???

They might put it on at a different timeslot, which would actually be a good thing!
 
I think that one of the main problems is the apparent inability of the editors to pinpoint story arcs in the house and follow them through as they unfold naturally. Housemates who act in a way that doesn't conform to their chosen stereotype will be ignored. Like last year, the focus is on inane tasks and talking fish to the exclusion of any real interaction. I guess it's easier for the producers to edit the daily show around their own interventions than around the spontaneous and largely unpredictable actions of housemates. Hopefully dismal ratings like this will be enough to force the producers to pull their heads out of their own arses.
 
The biggest problem for me is it just seems to have turned into another reality show. Part of the appeal of BB was that the audience was in on the joke for the most part. While BB was messing with the HM's in the house, we were sitting at home watching the fall out, that's what was fascinating, seeing how different people reacted. Now it's all gimmicks to try to get people to tune in 'OMG, what's the twist??!!11'. I don't care, I want to see the HM's but all we get is a continual rundown of the latest thing the producers are pulling and little to no time actually seeing how it played out.

edit to say, it actually feel like half the HM's are plants and the audience is actually the mugs. The twist is going to be the amount of actors/moles that are taking part this year. :(
 
Of course I shouldn't just single out the producers. Nine are perhaps even more to blame. They're the one's who demanded a consistently family friendly BB, and they're the one's who are intent on structuring BB around their existing schedule with no regard for the format of the show. The bloated mid-week daily shows are probably a large part of the reason why the producers feel compelled to cram in so many interventions and gimmicks to pad out the footage.

The lack of a Sunday daily show, combined with an overly short one on Fridays (half an hour was always too short, even on Ten), means that we are presented with such an uneven portrayal of what goes on in the house. If a major event occurs on a Saturday, then we may never even get to see it! But fear not, as producer Alex points out we'll have an extended 1/5 hours of hours of bloated drivel to compensate on Thursdays!

I do agree - the cast is strong this year and I actually think the production has been stepped up - they make their mistakes of course but the effort is there and the main twist is really doing it's job. The editing is weak though - it's all over the place, there has been too much diary room talk and not enough HM interaction (though that was much improved tonight) and also there are simply too many HMs. The Latecomers should have been left till a month or so down the track.

cause if it doesn't, I really dont think we'll be seeing it again next year :\

I think that while we call it the magic million and that number is important, more importantly we need to keep high in the key advertising demos to see BB return.

Do you reckon we should have a update - once a day - or even a week, detailing everyday's ratings all in one message?
Since I've only missed 4 eps of BB ever before this series and am struggling with this season and considering just watching once a week - plus feedback from friends who are switching off I'd be really curious as to seeing all the ratings since it started all in one post. :D

That's the most aggravating thing about it, it's my favourite cast since BB03 but the rest of the show is ABYSMAL. Nothing but challenges, tasks and diary room banter it's HORRIBLE. I hope it falls to seven hundred and somethign thousand next week to teach them a lesson to not tamper so much with it. Quit calling it the "Big Brother Game" unless you're going to turn it into American BB. If it's a 'game' then you have to be fake and nice to housemates to not be nominated and and fake and nice so the audience like you. What IS Big brother now??? It doesn't even know what it is, and I think audiences have clued in that the ship has gone off course and they've lost all the things that made it so great.
 
remember this is really the only reality tv show that is on nearly every single day, so if demos are still good, it still a big achievement

I think [MENTION=29597]tw2g[/MENTION] is going to be updating their charts. It may be a bit lost in the thread. Perhaps they could keep the most current chart in the OP??

On that note I'd love to see last year's chart but cant find the thread.

to be honest, i thought of that, but completely forgot that i started the thread so i dismissed the idea! hahahaha

by the looks of it, i never finished the charts last year, but ill do my best to get it done and add it to the OP
