Rate Mel Tracinas performance so far

8.5/10, but she'll definitely be top tier soon enough.

Despite being a little nervous (the rain definitely wouldn't have helped to ease any anxieties), Mel’s wit and natural interaction with the HMs was very impressive. She was genuinely funny at times - her best content from Launch was the unscripted / adlibbed stuff regarding the storm and her jokes in BB's Basement.

She also clearly researched and had a thoughtful enough question prepared to ask each HM, and imo in time she’ll be even better.

Mel showed strong leadership skills and a potential for the ability to control crowds/HMs, which is something Sonia lacked. All in all, an excellent start.

I think she is doing a really fantastic job and is only going to get better! Let’s say 8/10 for now but no particular notes, she will get to 9.5 or even 10 I think.

8/10, definitely a solid start. Still room for improvement and removing the weather could help with that.

Long time lurker...

✅ Host performance: Mel Tracina.

What she nailed:

  • She showed up ready. Mel was cast as the fresh face for this reboot, and her comments show she’s invested in bringing back the “original spirit” of the show.

  • Viewers appear to like her. On premiere night, despite the technical issues (see below), she held the stage and kept the energy up. One commentary: “Mel’s the star – she gives Gretel vibes!”

  • She champions transparency — the 24/7 live-stream element was part of her pitch.

    What could hve been sharper:
    • Because the production had hiccups, Mel had to play damage control live (e.g., equipment/weather issues) rather than focusing purely on hosting flow. That elevates her workload and visibility of issues.

    • As this is a reboot of a beloved format, any small mis-cue on the host’s part is amplified in comparison to past versions. She’s doing well, but whether she absolutely nails it remains subject to season progression.

    • Some viewers might still compare her to past hosts; the “fresh host + nostalgic format” combo needs consistency.

      Verdict:

Solid job under pressure. She’s credible, likeable, and appropriate for the reboot. If she keeps consistent, she’ll earn her place. The main risk: external production hitches overshadowing her.

Note: ChatGPT was used to tidy things up a bit... <<The original text was too lengthy.

Additional (if required?) Production technical notes can be provided <<from my POV.

8/10 - I said it already in another thread but this show is hers. She completely owns the role of host and it’s something Big Brother needs as a format.

It doesn’t feel like she’s putting on a different persona, her interviewing the housemates really brings out the same energy as her interviewing celebrities on a red carpet for The Cheap Seats. She did however feel like she was following a script at times - she will get better with this though, Gretel took a couple of seasons to really get into her own.

And, finally, it doesn’t feel like she’s holding out for a better gig later. This was Sonia’s biggest mistake - she never truly committed to the role when hosting BB, in the same way she did when she was hosting DWTS or The Voice.

Mel gets a 10 from me, but she's failed by the production itself. Bad scripting and poor pacing. Way too much dead air.

I know some people said her energy level wasn't quite there last night, I assume it was probably stressful. She was bang on tonight.

9 out of 10 from me, I think Mel's doing great so far and she's way better than Sonia Kruger was as host.
