NSW Bushfires

There is NO - let me repeat for those that maybe reading this thread that don't live in or around Sydney. NO fires anywhere near Bondi LMAO - The smoke haze has drifted from over 100klms or more away towards the coast, soon the smoke cloud will be hovering over NZ :-)

Oh my god, that image looks sinfully beautiful.
However, hope all those affected are okay and staying safe xxx

smells like we are so close to the fire , yet I,m a block off the coast off Coogee , hope everyone is well.

I have sympathy for those dealing with the NSW bush-fires - but i have none for channel 9 Sydney. Australia's largest city and we have to watch BB 30mins behind the rest of the east coast.

NINE could move BB to GEM or GO pffttt

Agreed, I'm no where near the fires but I feel like a victim in all of this.

Not quite. Still half hour ahead of QLD

Hey guys, there are a lot of people left with nothing, many with children too. So if you can donate anything like basic toiletries, canned food, formula, etc, it would help so many people out there.

Is there a local good charity to donate to? I don't trust the Red Cross to make sure it goes directly to the people who need it.
I've been watching big brother with you guys for a while and I would like to do my part to help.

Very sweet of you to want to help, usually food banks etc are set up more locally to the area where the disasters take place or in local/major towns/cities (ie sydney and melbourne) that then truck to goods to those areas, however normally after such a big disaster one or two of the major banks will set up for collection of money donations, these are normally arranged closer to the 'end' of these situation, once a clearer picture is available of the extent of the damage. Stay tuned, I'm sure as something like that is set up someone will post the information

probably didnt think to put in the three things. .......if a bushfire burns half the mountains can you let us know in case we have friends there.

maybe they have told them and just didnt let us know. hope so.

That's very nice of you to want to help.

My area was badly affected and a lot of people have lost everything. I've found that local community-run food and clothing drives have offered the most relief to us, where people who weren't as effected have donated as much food, clothing, etc as possible for others to take. I know obviously you can't donate to these given you're in the US but don't hesitate to donate to the Australian Red Cross or the Salvation Army, etc. I'm usually hesitant of where their profits go as well but they've been really amazing, particularly with finding shelter and relocating people who have lost their homes. I was lucky I only lost part of mine, and my parents weren't affected so my family can stay with them, but a lot of people didn't have anywhere to go and I've been told by friends in this position that these organisations really helped them.

Another great organisation has been the NSW Rural Fire Service. I cannot even describe the work I have seen them doing firsthand. I work in a hospital and two firefighters were brought in yesterday with severe exhaustion and dehydration after fighting the fires for days straight without a rest. They've been setting up evacuation points and running community meetings to help residents know what to do next, etc. They've really been incredible so even if you want to donate to them they truly to deserve it.
