Viacom are beginning to reveal their plans for C5 and it's other UK stations - and lets just say Big Brother is not at the centre of them. Although on screen they've announced they'll be back in January for Celebrity Big Brother no deal has actually been signed for next year.

Looking to Channel 5’s future he indicated that Viacom is not necessarily convinced that it must continue to air Big Brother, the broadcaster’s main ratings and revenue winner.

“Maybe we continue with Big Brother, maybe if for some reason that didn’t work out we have the ability to put out other great programming,” he said. “What is best direction for Channel 5? You can go too far with one genre even when it’s successful. That is one thing we’ve learned.

“No show is hugely popular forever so you have to keep your fingers in different pots. Big Brother has been a big performer we will leave it to the programming team to see where we go.”

While all you lot moan about the show airing in the late night slot of 8.40pm Viacom, the new owners of C5, are considering pushing the show back to 11pm as they want to take the main channel more upmarket.

Can't see it happening - they'd be better off axing it altogether rather than doing that. However spin-off show Bit on the Side usually does quite well in the 11-12 slot, retaining around half the audience of the main show.

BBUK actually started out life at 11pm, only moving to 10pm when it got massively successful half way through it's first series. There is an audience around at 11pm too - for example repeats of Family Guy in the 11pm hour are generally BBC3's highest rated show of the day.

LOL @ Viacom talking about Channel 5 becoming too reliant on BB... I guess CBS has other shows that have been sucessful but that said BB and Survivor are still both huge chuncks of CBS's prime-time schedule... BB seems to be holding up fairly well considering the series has been around for 15 years and counting but they are milking Survivor for all it's worth... Ratings have been on a pretty steady decline year on year...

I'm not sure about pushing BB back in to the 11pm time-slot... It really doesn't matter where the show is placed if core problems are not addressed... Even then wins would be minor... Scaling the show back would just isolate fans even more... The storylines are manipulated enough without trying to cram hours of footage in to few time-slots... Reviving the live feed to make up for it would only bring about further backlash from fans...

After the disaster that was last summer I think I agree with you that the show really just needs to be axed for good... A hybrid US format under a new name would work extremely well as a replacement... For what it's worth they've attempted to bring in a more BBUS style competitveness for years now...

Both BBUS and BBCAN have a fairly loyal fanbase in the UK from what I've seen... BBSPY and TiBB have been pushing both shows for years and it seems they both have had more postive things to say than they have about BBUK... I know this seems to be my solution to eveything nowadays but at this point I can't see any way of saving the show... Things have been pushed to the absolute limited and like other aging reality formats I can't see a way for BB to win back viewers...

Maybe they should put people who clash into the house. Fights are the most entertaining thing to watch, and it's good when they have massive arguments. Maybe follow more of the European big brother instead of US.

I was disappointed Jason never got into a brawl with anyone. I wanted to see how he deals with conflict and if he could dish it back.

This year has been pretty average. I only watch it for cat and lawson. When they leave I'll stop. It's better than when channel ten had it tho... I only watched the first one and was over it I couldn't stand Gretal.

You might be in the wrong thread... This thread has nothing to do with the Australian series of BB...

It's gotten to the point where pretty much everyone in the BB world is "copying" everyone... European? I don't know how much more "European" BBUK can get... That said BBUK always has pleanty of people who clash... By mid series they all hate each other and every other day is a clash about something... The fact is BB just isn't what it used to be anymore...

BTW it's Gretel NOT Gretal... And as much as I think her ego is bigger than she'll ever be, she was miles ahead of the puppet they currently have hosting... BBAU has always been the bottom of the barrel for me... That said even the worst series from the Channel 10 era is better than the dribble they are putting out now...

European? How's this for European?

BB Belgium hitting new low
BB calls Veronique to the "the dark room" - used for punishment etc.
There she finds bottle of alcohol and box which she can open
when BB tells her... first she must drink the alcohol... so she drinks
and BB tells her to open the box... there she finds vibrators ... WTF?
Then they play porn on the screen...
Next they call in Dennis and they keep playing porn on the screen...
WTF are they thinking that they will have sex in there?
the worst part is that they must finish the alcohol before leaving the room...
She doesn't want to drink anymore, she had already too much... so she says that she will masturbate... she covers herself in the corner and gets busy with herself.....
she finishes and then BB tells her to leave the room...how humiliating
This is just wrong...

Here's another winning idea from the Europeans... Why not put a goat in the house and trick everyone in to thinking she's a fully fledged HM?

Gran Hermano Spain launched with a twist similar to BBAU... HM's entered in pairs or trios... Hugo entered on day 1 paired with his pet goat Rubia... At the time HM's were told that she was in fact a full HM, however some time later BB decided to drop the charade and told HM's she was merely a pet...

Omg!

That's sick!

Woah, what the actual FUCK?!

My point was that if you look at BB in mainland Europe you really aren't going to find much... They all pretyt much copy BBAU, BBUK, or to a lesser extent BBUS or they go off on thier own weird tangents... There is Secret Story... However that really isn't a viable replacement for BB... Possibly a one off twist but as a format in itself there really isn't much there...

11pm would be the death knell. Clearly it would be done on purpose to put the show on life support so viewership drops drastically to give the owners justification to axe it completely. From what I've heard both owners/directors of Ch5 in the UK and Ch9 in AU don't really like Big Brother that much.

It would be an odd call to put it there to axe it though when the show is already out of contract. Like with Channel 9 though most true BB fans would actually rather the show be axed at the moment - at least then it's got a chance of some kind of future down the track rather than being stuck in the mess it's in on it's new network.

Well at least now the celebs have more of a right to complain about being locked away— I've never understood them always cracking when being there for just three weeks, which to me is a very, very short amount of time!
maybe they just cant stand being locked in a house with people more famous than them

Not too surprised but it means they'll be looking even further down the Z-list. There is an argument they'd be better off cutting it to two weeks and making it less of a commitment so that the celebs who actually do a bit of work might consider it more.
