Mike Goldman returning to Big Brother

I don't see FNL returning - if only because it will cause flashbacks to the Seven-era's challenges in the arena/"basement". I feel like they'll be wanting to draw firm line of the sand to not get mistaken for that format and will be unlikely to touch anything that could even remotely be misconstrued as being the same format.
yeah I agree, I hope it stays consigned to the past. The people who keep asking for it to come back are annoying. idk how they can sit and watch it - even without ads - without vast quantities of wodka and/or weed.

Seems to be a lot of people asking about it though and thinking of it as original BB

It had its fans back in the day and I can see them wanting that nostalgia to return. But I also think FNL as a stand alone show would not translate well to TV in 2025 for a whole bunch of production reasons but also general viewing habits have changed. These same people who liked FNL would complain "it's not the saaaame" (as my rose-tinted memory).

Channel 7 tried to do the heavy survivor-FNL-esque challenges in their first seasons and look where it got them. They had to hard pivot to becoming a Love Island ripoff.

I don’t mind if they do a little bit of that kind of thing as part of a task but not bringing it back as a weekly show. Not that they have the room anyway.
I didn't mind the final editions in the last week of the series - i.e. The Prize Fight, Fight For Glory - when so few housemates were left and the challenges tended to be a bit more interesting. But as for weekly FNL, I found it to be an easy skip (or watch on fast forward) type thing.

These basic fans who constantly ask for FNL don’t seem to realise it’s not what their nostalgia remembers it to be. Not to mention, television has long moved past that type of variety, slapstick style of show. Especially live.

A lot of these people also forget Nine even caved in to the fan service and gave us FNL in the form of Showdown. Sure it was slightly modified, but it was essentially the same, and was literally only created as a result of these same casual viewers (and I say that gently) commenting “bring back FNL” on every social media post. Just like they still do.

Yet, Showdown rated so poorly they axed it as a separate show. By then they had relied on the prize being too important to the game, so production were stuck with being forced to still put it on for the HMs each week, they ended up pre-recording and editing as little of it as possible into a midweek Daily Show.

It’s a dead concept and I’m glad the current team know that. At least for now.

EDIT: Echoing the above comments by @Tim and @marquisite, which were posted while I was writing my own. As @marquisite mentioned, one-off games like The Prize Fight and the MasterCard Challenges are a decent enough substitute, if they have to.

Nah the 7 era challenges were nothing compared to FNL’s silly themes and competitions. That said if they did bring it back they need to follow BBUS’s suit and make things equitable.

Ok so I just went back to the 2008 stream to see if daily shows were back on... nope more fucking FNL.

The stream loads just as Mike Goldman is making a joke about Terrance masturbating under the desk and tells Terrance to put his hands where they can see them. It was such an off joke that Bree gasps.

Honestly FNL should be banned from TV for eternity and I'm now heavily reminded of what Mike Goldman is really like.

Oh my mate and I watched it every Friday, but only assisted by lashings of wodka. I think you're right and it's not just because I'm 20 years older, but because as you say, TV is 20 years older. Kinda like bringing Hey Hey it's Saturday back. Blergh.

I loved it back in the day, but it was once per week, whereas these steams you're getting multiple in a 12 hour span. I never remembered them dragging on for as long as they did. When BBAU started streaming I did watch a few of them but just the sheer duration of them made me start skipping through, or finding something else to do while it was on the background.

I agree. It won't translate well to modern day tv. I suppose it could work exclusively on 10 play, but the small viewership it would likely receive might cause it to be too costly to produce. Also again, there isn't any physical room for it.

That being said, I liked the pseudo head of house privileges that came from winning it. Rewards room. Prizes. Delegating tasks. But that isn't OG BB. I do wonder how "OG" this will be though.

Biggest problem with that era was that they took “Survivor in a house” too literal. BBUS and BBCAN do a much better job at keeping things within the wheelhouse of what we’d expect from BB. Themes, OTT costumes, props, slime, etc. Even the more physical competitions usually involve some sort of less serious element.
