Masterchef 2017

To me those Macarons did not look right - they were out of proportion too thin and too wide to be a macaron. That filling seems like it would not have been in the right proportion to the biscuit. I know it was supposed to be more like an ice cram sandwich but still seemed proportionally wrong.

Eliza probably wasn't blonde enough for them!
Yes, I too fear Tamara is going to win this thing now. Oh well, whoever comes 2nd can follow the example of Matt Sinclair from last year - that boy now has his own restaurant open in Noosa, and a rather nice well paid gig with that olive oil company. In other words, coming 2nd to Tamara would be no disgrace, you'll end up being more successful than her in the long run.
Once again, the fools will pick the person they think is the most marketable as their supposed winner, it happens every year on this show.

I thought Tamara's macaroons looked easily the least sophisticated out of the 3 dishes, but of course in the eyes of the 3 middle aged idiot judges, she's their golden girl, she can do no wrong, other better cooks will be tossed under the bus so their princess wins the bloody show.

Yep, yep and yep.

If anyone other than Tamra produced that dish, they would've been ripped to shreds. Just imagine eating meringues (if you haven't eaten macarons) with a solid ice thing, not soft ice cream, between it. It sounds awful

The reaction on Facebook is visceral, not much love for Tamara anywhere.
As she obviously is on Masterchef to become the next Justine Scofield, that might be a problem for her when she's after that TV gig in future.
I really shouldn't bother with the rest of this season, and the so called finals week, but I will, for the sole reason that I'm interested to see how the 3 amigos contrive to get Tamara into the grand final........who will be deliberately eliminated first......probably Ben or Arum is my guess, then Diana and then Sarah. Grand final will be Tamara vs Karlie - Gary's wet dream

...that's a great point that you have there Evan44... it's funny how they got Matt in as a 'celebrity guest' and not whoever it was that won it last year (don't remember... don't know and I don't care)... so your point has good validity indeed!...

...if I was a Chef and had my own Restaurant chains and had been watching this I would've snapped up Callan /Arum/ Ben and Sarah a couple of weeks ago before this show even finishes next week... I'm pretty sure that who I mentioned will all have been snapped up by real Chefs too by now... seriously... who WILL hire the likes of Tamara from what they have seen of her on this show?...

...let's face it... you wouldn't have her in a kitchen because she cracks under pressure... you wouldn't hire her as a waitress because she talks too much... you wouldn't give her that cooking show that she craves so much because everybody is well and truly over her voice by now and nobody would watch it so what's left?... flipping burgers at McDonalds?... Tamara has killed off any prospects of TV work by her scene stealing 'Miss Glitterpants' on air appearances throughout this show so she will be going nowhere fast from what I can see...

...so really Callan/Arum/Ben and Sarah don't HAVE to win this grand finale... they are already winners by being who they are in my opinion... I'd love to see a 'where are they now?' in 5 years time to see what the likes of Tamara/ Karlie and Eliza have achieved in the world of cooking... I bet that they are not anywhere near where they all thought that they would be in the world of cooking that's for sure...

...and... while I'm a it... Karlie wants to be a 'Food Critic'?... is that just a way to smooch free meals for the rest of her life?... she better enjoy being 'thin' now because she'll end up being the size of Matt Preston within 10 years if she goes down that course lol!... cheers.

...bwahahaha!... crack up #5 for me tonight and so long after the show has finished too!... funny as!... thanks Evan44!... lol!... cheers.

The girl who won last year, Elena - has anyone heard of her since?
Matt Sinclair comes 2nd................now he's got a restaurant open in Noosa, and his ad is all over Channel 10.
Moral of the story - the people who come 2nd and 3rd and even lower down(Reynold) often end up being more prominent in that industry than the supposed winner.
Assuming it's rigged for the princess to win, you can still bet that Sarah will be appearing on Masterchef next year instead, or Ben or Arum or even Callan(Gary likes him, so that helps his prospects).
Tamara wants a TV career, she isn't on the show to get a job as a chef, and the producers combined with 3 judges are either giving her false hope or they're enabling her to become the next Justine or Ben.

...yeah but I seriously doubt that Tamara has the ability to do a real cooking show to be honest... on this show she is being what Gary and George want her to be for the camera's but just being herself 'naturally' on TV is a whole different ball game altogether as far as I'm concerned Evan44... she is not a 'natural-down-to-Earth' type of person at all... as we said earlier... "fake fake fake fake!"...

...talking on a cooking show as you give a running commentary about what you are cooking as if you are calling a horse race and being 'entitled' and condescending towards the viewers with it 'a good host it does not make!'... she wouldn't cut it as an on-air cooking host or an on-air anything because of who she is from what I can see I'm afraid... she's spoiled any TV dreams for herself within the future for stealing all of the limelight at every possible moment that she could on this show so it's bye bye TV career for her after this show ends that's for sure!... (in my humble opinion anyway)... cheers.

And yet... and yet... every year for six years the winner oscillates between the sexes. Then we've had two women win in a row - it is time to redress the balance and have Ben win! (I love Arum but I think he stands less chance with these judges even getting to the final two. How fun, though, if final two was any combo of Ben, Arum, and Sarah.)

Let's take it for granted that Tamara is going to win, due to the connivance of the producers and the judges.
It's better really to try and ignore the princess, and focus instead on the other 5 of the remaining contestants, who are frankly much better cooks and more interesting personalities....and in the case of Ben, rather easy on the eye too.
Even Karlie, who I'm not necessarily a fan of, is consistently a better cook than Tamara - her dish last night looked eye catchingly good.
Sarah will get hired for sure by someone good, Diana too I bet, Ben and Arum won't have an issue getting work experience anywhere. And Karlie no doubt will get to become a full time food blogger.

The girl who won last year, Elena - has anyone heard of her since?

She was on the Where Are They Now special, which I still haven't watched. She also came in early on this season and did a mystery box or something I vaguely recall? I just googled her, and got some info from an article from this April:

https://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/news/find-out-what-our-masterchefs-have-been/3171371/

Duggan is busy writing and gathering content for her website and will return to California later this year to work with Chef Alex Lovick at Inglenook Vineyard in Napa Valley, whom she impressed last year during a challenge.

She will also return to Noosa next month for the food and wine show.

"I'm looking forward to visiting my hometown... and cooking with my favourite seafood with some amazing chefs," she said.

Outside of the kitchen, Elena got engaged to her boyfriend Eric in November and wedding plans are 'slowly' progressing. She is also on the mend from surgery for endometriosis.

"Recovery has its ups and downs, but all is towards a more comfortable and pain-free future," she said.

"Much of my food research/website has a health focus based around this, my insulin resistance, my gluten intolerance. My social media interactions have been very supportive and responsive to this journey, so it will continue to be a source of connection with others."

Like previous winners, Elena will also guest star in the upcoming new season of MasterChef, which starts on Monday.

So, endo... Not fun. But it looks as if she's yet another would rather do a blog type.

(I guess it was more of a rhetorical comment on how the runner ups often do better than the winner in the longer term, but there you are!)

I'm clearly in the minority when I say this but I truely want the final 3 to be Sarah, Karlie and Tamara. Sarah is my pick to win as she is clearly a talented cook and has been quite consistent throughout the competition. Karlie was noticed very early on and was highly consistent for almost a month. Tamara as much as you all despise her has actually produced some well looking and cealrly well tasting dishes and she like the other 2 was noticed early on and has carried on the momentum throughout. Arum would be my number 1 pick to not win. He's been my least favourite this whole time and I don't believe he deserved to be in the top 24. He's been silent for almost 90% of the show and hasn't produced a lot of 5 star quality food. Everyone hung shit on Eliza for just creeping through week by week but Eliza was also noticed early on. We didn't see Arum cook a top 3 worthy dish until week 8. Same goes as for Diana and Ben. I often forget the 2 are there and again like Arum they where not noticed until later weeks. Although I'm clearly the single only person here who has this opinion but I'm gonna voice it. If one of these 3 win it I'm going to be very dissapointed. I do not want someone to win when they've produced meh dishes for 3/4 of the show up until the last few weeks. I was so dissapointed when Elena won last year. Like Ben,Diana and Arum Elena wasn't producing top 3 food until week 7 or 8. Elena winning was awful for me as it felt like an intruder winning big brother. Anyways that's my 2 cents worth. I predict Karlie will be the next eliminated and we will deffintly see Sarah, Tamara, Ben and either Diana or Arum in the top 4. I predict Arum and Ben for top 2 with one of them winning. I can see why the series is rating 18% lower than last years and is struggling to reach the 1 million mark and it's because so much bias is apparent between the judges and contestants who overstay their welcome in the Masterchef kitchen.

Contestants like Tamara and Karlie?
I'm sorry Dennis, I'm not saying you're not entitled to liking whoever you want to, but I can't see any possible way there is any evidence of bias towards the contestants you are suggesting (Arum, Ben or Diana). You say yourself that they "haven't been noticed" or "have been silent for 90% of the show". Surely that indicates that there has been no bias towards them at all, because they are not the judges favourites? Yet many people, not just on this forum but elsewhere, have noticed them because they are there to cook, not play up to the cameras.
I'd be more inclined to think that the drop in ratings is *because* Tamara, and to a slightly lesser degree the other blonde girls and Eloise, have made the show all about them. They are the ones who "overstayed their welcome".

Bollocks! Ben was in the top three for the mystery box in week four, I think. Diana has been in the top three many, many, many times, won two mystery boxes, done well as a captain, greatly impressed many of the guest chefs, etc etc. It really doesn't matter when they rise or when they start hitting their strides - the thing is to maintain and gain momentum in the last weeks - as Arum clearly is, and as Ben and Diana have done throughout.

Just because you personally haven't noticed a contestant, or don't especially like them, doesn't mean they aren't cooking well! Adam Liaw, for example, was a background entity in the first five or so weeks of the competition - but if you were paying attention you could see him do some very fine work. The way the editing arc works, it is rarely anyone to the forefront of the edit in the early weeks who makes it to the finals.

Arum would be my number 1 pick to not win. He's been my least favourite this whole time and I don't believe he deserved to be in the top 24. He's been silent for almost 90% of the show and hasn't produced a lot of 5 star quality food.

OMG! Doesn't even deserve to be in the top 24. He hasn't been 'silent' - and anyway, he didn't do the editing himself! I think most of them will be stunned to see how massively Tamara has dominated the edit and the talking heads of this season. (Also to see how much she was ill-wishing them in their moments of glory!)

We all have our quirks and our favourites. I like the more modest Arum and Sarah. I like Ben's work ethic and focus. And I admire Diana and Karli as cooks, though not mad keen for either to win - but to say Diana has not been cooking well all competition is, I think, more a statement of your selective attention.

The decline in ratings, compared to last year, can be partly blamed on Masterchef getting hurt by competition from House Rules and the Voice and most recently Ninja Warrior on opposing channels.
But I believe it's also partly due to Masterchef itself seeming stale this year, and repetitive! A lot of the challenges have been frankly boring, the pressure tests just get more and more farcically impossible for any mere mortal to complete, and the immunity challenge thing long ago outlived its usefulness.
Also, Gary/George/Matt have been there way too long, and their obvious biases towards certain contestants(hello Tamara) are more and more blatant.
My suggestions for 2018 - dump at least one of the regular 3 judges, or bring on a female judge, all blind tastings, and introducing some new points system, so the more consistent cooks over the season are advantaged AND the obvious stragglers can't coast into the top 10 because for example they keep ending up in winning teams.
Arum - I like him, but he's a bit one dimensional for me! If he has to cook something other than beef or steak, I reckon he's got a few problems.

Why this season sucks, as well as being full of Tamara and to a lesser extent Karlie?
They sent home Bryan way too soon and didn't bring him back when they had the chance(blame Tamara), they sent Michelle home too early, they sent Callan home too early, and they probably sent Sam home too early also.
Out of those left, Sarah and Ben and Diana are my faves, Arum is OK, but the other two...........I'd easily swap them for 2 others
