This is what worries me, and she will be publicly bullied and ridiculed for it. I’m not afraid to admit I’m also pretty neurodivergent (not autistic) but I feel like I’m pretty self aware but have had therapy for as long as I can remember. I hope this experience doesn’t ruin her mental health even more.

Grasping at anything for positive attention rather than being evicted.
Unfortunately she is just encouraging a very naive girl make an even bigger fool of herself.
As for Ed, if he walks away from this - he's gonna be viewed negatively by many even though its the best option.
So he is trying to bring some maturity to the conversation, explaining they can be friends, he can even love her without being IN love with her. But she & even Jane just aren't getting the gist of it all.....they just keep flinging it there at him.
