JLP "axed"?

A really idiotic move. I’m glad he spoke out honestly and said it exactly as it was said. This is honestly a move that makes me lose a lot of respect for what has been my favourite television network for many years.

Australian survivor will struggle now, this was not the decision to make at all. It had a good run but in true Aussie tv fashion, they tried to fix what isn’t broken.

That would be insufferable. He wouldn’t be capable of hosting something like this. It would be amateur hour. At least the name rumoured to be taking over, David Genat, sounds like he could be a somewhat decent replacement.

Why would they commission two seasons in one year if the show was in a big decline? That doesn’t make sense. They did two seasons because they needed content and Survivor rates decently.

Yes, he mentioned ratings dipped, but if the show was rating that bad, they wouldn’t have commissioned two seasons in one year. Aus Survivor has a decent following. 10 needed content. There is ratings potential for two series per year. They were going to do two seasons in 2020, but then COVID happened. They wouldn’t put money into something that was on the way out.

Didn't know you had such cruelty in you. 🤣

Like I suspect many other wavering viewers this will be the reason I need to tune out. Of all the possible wrongs with the show JLP isn't one of them and removing the one constant will only serve to piss loyal viewers off without adding a single new viewer.

Sometimes axing a long running host can be justified where either viewers have tired of the host or the host has clearly tired of the format but this is not one of those situations. One of the dumbest decisions in television I've seen.
 
Totally dumb move, and if it was a money issue - just pay JLP what he wants, simple as that.
Channel 10 executives and programmers make some crazy decisions sometimes, this is the latest one.
No doubt Beau Ryan will get the gig now LOL
 
If JLP had decided to leave of his own volition I will be absolutely thrilled with the news that David was taking over, in fact I can’t think of anyone better.
David has an incredible ‘mind’ for the game, I’ve always wanted a podcast or a side show hosted by him, breaking down the moves and strategy.
However axing JLP is completely impossible to fathom. Crazy!

Agree. And the argument of ratings dipping is a bit of a moot point IMO as it’s been said many times already that television in general is on the decline.

I understand that blood vs water and heroes vs villains rated significantly better than the last two editions. But it’s not a blow out. And really what separates the seasons is mainly that BvW and HvV managed to grab 1 million views for their launch or finale, whereas TvR and BvB2 couldn’t reach that.

And in fairness this year’s finale managed 900,000+. It’s not a huge difference. Most episodes are scoring around that 800,000 it’s hardly a huge dip.

Average ratings since total tv started:
Blood vs Water 2022: 880,000
Hereos vs Villains 2023: 900,000
Titans vs Rebels 2024: 799,000
Brains vs Brawn 2 2025: 805,000
