jessy_girl's junk food jamboree

So I got the jellies and some twisted Jaffa delta creams, which are pretty good, I think they used the delta cream biscuit with an orange cream filling.
Couldn't get the sour twisties but I got tomato ones, which were pretty revolting.

When I was sort of anorexic I lived on those sugarless jellies, virtually no calories, maybe 5 or something, jelly and whipped jelly.
But ordinary jelly doesn't have many calories either does it?

Did anyone watch Insight this week?
If you didn't it is a really interesting one about our senses - including the palate, tastebuds etc.
Some of us have more taste buds, and some of us are supertasters, some people detect a bitterness nobody else can, it was all truely fascinating.
I reckon bogans that live on Mackers & KFC have killed their tastebuds
And I have often wondered how people can eat some crap they do. All those pizza chains - I would vomit if ate that fake ham and shit

But what freaks me out, some people, well almost everyone but me - has a way different temperature gauge/sensitivity from me.
What everyone else gulps down would leave me with a burnt tongue for days - and people think I am weird drinking luke warm coffee that goes cold, I like it that way.

Oh interesting. Yes the lite jelly is approx 7 calories per half cup, so definitely very diet friendly for anyone who is that way inclined.

I didn't see Insight, no, but it does sound interesting. Maybe I'll try watch it online - if SBS has a catch up service anyway. I am a fairly fussy eater, but I'm much much better than I used to be. I was soooo fussy as a kid. I wonder if I have more sensitive tastebuds or if I just didn't/don't like much.

I have eaten many foods piping hot and burnt my mouth because I'm too impatient for it to cool down, I've also eaten things not heated all the way through because the 2 minute wait in the microwave is way too long. So I guess temperature is less of an issue for me.

It is well worth chasing up that Insight - I generally don't watch the ones where they argue about sad and serious stuff, my friend told me about this one so I caught the repeat.
I love this stuff.
They talk about all the senses, sight and echo training for the blind was fascinating, synthesis where people see colours others don't all around them.

Hate too hot temperature and hate too hot spicy even more - I don't get it, and I imagine chilli eating people have NO tastebuds to crave that.
I like spicy but not HOT spicy.
My first ever date at about 15, some older guy took me to a burning hot curry house, hideous my nose and eyes were running, and I never wanted to see him again.

My favourite Coles mac & cheese is on special, 2 for one price, got 4.
And my stomach has felt weird all week, bit of food poisoning I think

I'm not a curry or hot spices person.

The raspberry licorice jelly was VILE, I binned it.

Jaffa delta creams are so good though!

My local cafe has sinful brownies I am developing an addiction for.
Seriously gooey chocolate, no flour I think, just a crunchy outer/gooey centre - and a surprise glace raspberry.

What is your favourite sweet treat/sweet junk food???

I also like a good muffin - not many around, most make little cakes, that are too light and fluffy & tasteless.
Muffin break raspberry and whit chocolate.
And I love pastries, like apricot danish from Bread Top Vietnamese pastry shops

I had a tasty brownie just today actually. It can go either way for me, but when it's good it's sooo good. Same with caramel slice. I also had some of that today.

Cake is very hit and miss for me. I wouldn't say that I don't like it, but it's far from being my favourite. Most of the time the texture is a bit crap, in one way or another.

Yet another thing I had today was banana bread. This one was quite bland and a tiny bit too dry which was disappointing, because once again, when done well it can be so bloody tasty.

I'm newly converted to those fruit tarts with custard underneath. I was fettered because of the fruit and for years I didn't like custard either. Having come around on custard tarts, I thought why bit try the fruit version, and actually it tastes so good. It counts as healthy... right?

Here in W.A. we are deprived of very many great burger places, so I am trying to perfect the perfect burger. I add nothing to the meat pattie apart from salt & pepper. I believe a great burger doesn't need anything else. The other flavours should come from the condiments, trimmings. I'm struggling to source good buns. It's really doing my head in. My guinea pigs say the burgers are getting better each time. My next trial will be a buttermilk soaked deep fried chicken burger.

Soooo... what's your favourite burger? Do you have a bun preference? What kind of trimmings do you like on your burgers?

I like Grill'd burgers and used to be able to get them for $5 at my local, otherwise too expensive.

And Koonwarra Store, in Koonwarra Gippsland country town make scrumptious burgers with homemade everything.

And my own home made burgers with caramalised onion and chutney relish.
I add onion and beef stock to lean mince, and a dash of cummin and coriander.
And roll the beef in gravox and flour, tasty.

I had this cheeseburger at this American diner in Beijing and holy crap was it amazing. Probably the best I've ever had if you can believe it. I do like grill'd burgers, there was one called baa baa I think that was good.

Burgers are tricky. The meat and bun need to be just right.

My love of Hungry Jack's is no secret, their burgers are my favourite.

Everything I have read about the meat is that you shouldn't add anything other than salt & pepper. Some fanatics even frown at that!! I guess each to their own, but for true American style cheeseburgers, they add nothing to the meat, apart from s&p (I'm starting to repeat myself nowww!) That sounds interesting, rolling the pattie in gravox. Might have to try that!!

I do like Grill'd but their fries annoy me. I don't like it when they put the herb on them. YOU'VE RUINED MY CHIPS!!!

I'm a HJ's fan too.. except the last few times i've had it, the burger has been stone cold. Not even a tinge of warm. Meh.. the microwave heats it up and it's still tasty reheated, unlike maccas which tastes like ass if you nuke it. Eurgh!

I still believe that nachos is the best junk food on the planet. It's also healthy! Corn (chips)! Vegetables (jalapenos)! Dairy (sour cream)! Fruit (tomato salsa)!
