You will have to do what I do. :) Look it up on 'Urban Dictionary'.

There are six related meanings given. Non of them seem applicable. Could it be that either they don't know what the word means? Or could there be a seventh unrelated meaning?

Hood rat = a rodent wearing a hood
'Hood rat = a neighbourhood rodent not necessarily wearing anything on its head
Hoodrat = 2 grown men acting like they are 16 years old... Posting their every move on social media in the hope of being seen out n about...

I actually think one of the Urban meanings is to do with 'rat' as in to rat on someone, like dob another 'hood' in... Dunno, but it sounds pretty cool huh??!!! Lol...ya Hoodrat!!
 
There's a few meanings but...

I'm guessing from the context that they used it in the DR and too each other etc....They are kind of referring to themselves as scoundrels, that will play with people's heads (pranks, the game, etc.), pull pranks, etc......

I think they see themselves as more knowing they have flaws and don't cast themselves as holier than thou people like others were prone to do..(ex. Ed)

They aren't the by the rules people, but like to push the rules or break them at times.....while still being likable and lovable..

None of the definitions in the 'Urban Dictionary' would correspond with the one you have given. Could this be a difference between US and British English?

I don't think they are using any of those defintions...B/c you are correct that they don't match any in the urban dictionary and I can't see any definition anywhere that matches them...

...I'm just going off of context clues from how they talked about being hood rats throughout the season...and make an educated guess as to what they mean..
