Okay so I've read an article that says the average cost of a wedding is $65k. I'm not sure how to feel about this. I think it's an incredible amount of money and although I admit I was entertained by how wow factored the royals wedding was and even Kim Kardashian's wedding, I think for the average Australian it's a little on the waste of money side.

I feel that these expensive weddings are just a waste of time. All this fancy schmancy wedding stuff makes me feel sick. Lucky I have only been to one wedding. Not sure how much it cost but it didn't feel cheap. But I hated the whole experience.[DOUBLEPOST=1433725332][/DOUBLEPOST]
How nice of you.

Ouch. That hurt.

It's actually insane how much weddings cost, even the most basic things get jacked up to huge amounts at the mention of wedding versus an identical service for a regular function. There are ways to cut costs but it still adds up to huge amounts for what is essentially a party; total waste of money I think. Of course it's up to the individual what they think that's worth and its all relative, but surely for a couple starting married life that money could be spent sooo much better.

Yep I totally agree with the both of you. This discussion is actually happening on Facebook too. I have not commented about it though, I'm just happy to be the audience atm. I know a few who are family who have spent up to 25k on their wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses and rather not peeve off any of them.

Some of the arguments made about spending a lot is that they have huge families. I can see how having a huge family will def jack up the final amount. But then there are some who are saying it's a once in a lifetime commitment and it should be made to feel special... I hope for their sake and the debt they put themselves in that it's a once and only marriage.

The comment that baffled me the most was that their parents paid for everything and wanted it to be a big event. I personally would feel bad about my parents paying that much.

I'd rather spend my money on the honeymoon anyways.

...thankyou Sweetgeek... after I woke up I was feeling crappy again but when I had a steaming hot shower I felt pretty good thankfully... I felt so good about lunchtime that I made 3 damper breads!... I took one around to my brothers place and one to my sisters place too straight from the hot oven... they loved it!... there's nothing like making your own bread and eating it hot from the oven!... yummy!...

...one thing though... as the night has worn on I'm feeling like my 'man flu' is niggling at me again... I just need to stay warm methinks!... cheers.
I have a feeling you don't like to rest very much ;) if it's not your wife keeping you active it's something else lol

I love home baked bread! What a thoughtful thing to do. If only we were neighbours. I would take advantage of your hospitality :)

I can't imagine how it would feel to have a short marriage if the wedding was really expensive.

This is actually vaguely relevant to my life right now, and excuse my language, but the entire industry and all the connotations of it is fucked.

I can't disagree with you. The pressure from family is just as frustrating too.

Christening bookings are no better either.

A little fact about myself: I never had a reception for my wedding.[DOUBLEPOST=1433738981][/DOUBLEPOST]
I actually know 2 people who are under 30 and their parents are still paying off their weddings despite now being divorced. Kinda off putting...
Oh! That's just awkward and more so depressing

The wedding I went to had their reception at The Marriot in Sydney.

what really gets me is the very expensive 1st birthday parties ... they'll never remember it - its not for them - its for keeping up with the other mummies and daddies and getting one up on the last one they attended

Wow. How and more importantly WHY did you go so long without one? Burgers are one of my major food groups. You should eat a decades worth to catch up I think.

...lol!... I for the life of me don't know why I hadn't had one for so long?... I just never thought to buy one methinks... weird eh?...

I'm on the side of the spectrum in that I have a burger pretty much everyday, a good substitute for breakfast I find. :angelic: A burger is after all a glorified sandwhich, isn't it? Just two pieces of bread with a bit of meat in between.

Mind you it's one of the cheapest ones on offer at maccas (part of the loose change menu), the double beef and bacon that used to cost only 3 bucks.

It sucks that since Feb I think of this year the tight arses now force you to buy a meal along with it, you can't buy it by 'itself' anymore. Bastards, business must be tough/slow for them to resort to these tactics.

Anyway I like it because it feels me up pretty much for most of the day and being a relatively small burger it doesn't have the same amount of calories/kilojousles/what-have-you of the other 'proper' fattie more expensive burgers on the menu.

...hahaha!... nearly every day?... we are definite opposites then aren't we?... I meant to go and buy one today but other things came along to take that off my 'to do' list.... **mental note to one's self... SELF!... buy a hamburger tomorrow!**... cheers.

...I am always doing 2 or 3 things at a time because... (as my darling wife calls me)... I'm a 'fidget-arse'... I'm always doing something!... I love cooking and am always taking food around to my brother and sisters places for them to try it lol!... my brothers wife and my sister do the same for us when they cook something out of the ordinary and want a second opinion... if you were my neighbour we would get on great I'm sure of it Sweetgeek... I make a mean Lobster Mornay and also Baby Back American Pork Ribs lol!... cheers.

I'll have lobster mornay when I come over for dinner, thanks @Mr Stickyfingers
I collaborated with my mum on a lobster pasta the other day, it turned out pretty well.

As for hamburgers, I don't like them that much, homemade or takeaway. My junk food of choice every now & then is actually a Wendy's hot dog, as basic as that is.

You are right, no one remembers their first birthday party. One upping is awful. Like a perverse real life 'four yorkshiremen sketch'.

I love Wendy's hotdogs. The Wendy's at my local chopping centre closed down many years ago. Very sad!

I also loved their Agro ice cream cone haha.

I don't use iMessage on my iPad, in fact I hadn't used it in over a year, I turned it on to send a message the other night, some reason had old numbers I had deleted on there and all mixed up :\ awkward

...I woke up this morning... (which is always a good thing)... and the TV was on in in the bedroom... as I awoke and put my glasses on and saw I something that was so pathetic that it was beyond belief... on Channel 9's 'Morning Show' they were staging a mock wedding between 2 blocks of cash!... everyone on that show were giggling and cackling along as if it was a hilarious piece of TV entertainment... it was cringeworthy shit to have to sit through that rubbish that they are classifying as 'entertainment'...

...seriously.. Channel 9 are putting shit on like this... they are spending their money on producing shows like that piss poor 'Marriage at first sight' along with 'Reno Rumble' and it looks like they are going to be showing a show about pageant kids dressed up as adults in the near future too!...

...they're spending their money on shit shows like these yet do not put on Big Brother anymore and won't give the show to any other Channels... no wonder Channel 9 are losing sponsors and are going broke!... what the hell is wrong with them?... (I'm so over Karl Stefanovic and his massive ego too!)...

...wake up Channel 9 you bloody simpletons... scrap these shit shows and bring Big Brother back!... a mock wedding between 2 blocks of cash... really?... how pathetic!... just saying... I think that I might have to go back to bed and wake up on the other side of it somehow... cheers.

Quite honestly, both 9 and 7 morning shows are tripe. I do prefer the 9 one partly as Kochie's voice, which isn't his fault in many ways, is very grating and I agree absolutely re Karl. He's a tool of massive proportions. I can't stand the way everyone seems to dumb themselves down on TV these days. Amanda Keller does it regularly.
