Hey guys, first time poster in here.

Anyway I need to help to decide something.

When the time comes (I'll put both degrees in my uni preferences) should I choose:

- UTS B Business/Law

or

- B Commerce at USYD or UNSW then try transfer into law

Obviously USYD has the prestige and the fab campus but I'm a bit worried I won't make the cut into transferring into the law course. But then again I'm not sure how much uni reputation comes into play when looking for a job.

pls halp

Hi Twitchstix welcome to our thread :)

Any Law Students or Graduates here that can help? Have you spoken to an advisor at USYD - they may be able to help you...

I've spoken to an advisor and apparently USYD bases their transfers on is half ATAR (this should be ok) and at least a distinction average (which may be a problem). The problem is that I'm not sure whether I'd meet the distinction average so it'd be much safer to just take an offer for law at UTS. The problem with this though is that apparently it is a pretty competitive industry and I'm not too sure how much uni reputation/prestige comes into play when trying to find a job. The advisor also said that people who transfer internally have first preference over people trying to transfer from other unis, so I doubt I would be able to transfer to USYD once I am locked in to UTS.

If it doesn't affect job prospects too significantly then I wouldn't mind going to UTS.

Would your performance in an internship play a big role in getting a job?

Twitchstix Hard to say exactly as I'm obviously in Brisbane and I did accounting. But in my experience there will always be a little bit of underlying bias from employers regarding what uni you went to but it's not the be all or end all.

I was always told the key is networking. Most of the big firms will hold networking events organised by the student council at least once a year especially towards the end of your degree. Attending these events gives you a huge leg up which IMO would more than overcome any possible bias. At the end of the day though your grades and personality are always going to trump where you studied.

I'm not too sure, I haven't looked that far ahead.

Ok sweet, and that's awesome (you doing accounting). I received an accounting cadetship from a mid tier firm so for a while I was contemplating just taking up the offer and settling for the single commerce degree.

Someone's mashed up The Hannah Montana Movie with Miley's VMA performance. It's actually pretty well done. :p

That awkward moment when you have to explain to the kids what Hannah Montanna is doing...
