My best wishes to Mr 3 as well. And I agree about the hospitals. Ours doesn't even have one hospital based doctor. They rely on the one GP clinic in town, which only has a staff of four doctors anyway. They take turns at being on 24 hour call (and have to leave their clinic patients during business hours to attend the hospital). Our maternity ward closed at the beginning of this year because they could not guarantee the availability of both a doctor and anaesthetist if they should be required (both roles filled by those same four GPs by the way)

Don't pretend you don't know WHO that is!

And get out of the Dr who lover closet & join me in the dr who thread theo! :p

It feels like we need to stage some sort of Dr Who intervention to save you from yourself!

^^ recon I'm about 30 mins away from looking like this. After spending the better part of 2 days in 2 hospital Emergency depts & a kiddie ward with my mr 3, all I can say is GIVE RURAL & REGIONAL hospitals more money!!

(for those that care, turns out mr 3 is asthmatic)

Sorry to hear your youngest is defective.

Asthma is a horrid condition, particularly for the very young. Good news is there have been all kinds of advances when it comes to the management of the condition. If you need any expert nursing advice just drop me a PM and I will in turn PM Mutley and get some.

Xo

Thanks everyone :) Doing much better today, but it's a bit harder cos he wants to run around & be a normal 3yr old, but is getting puffed very quickly.
TraLa, i'll hold you to that! And it doesn't matter where your answers come from, i'll still give you the credit ;)

I try and do a body pump class first...THEN I do the body balance. :)

You are a machine!!

Do you go to a Fernwood gym?

I'm at Fernwood Maroochydore and it actually has a body pump before body balance, but I hate any extreme exercise. To be honest the only reason I exercise is to keep my joints and muscles strong and to eat cake. I don't mind working up a sheen and slight puff, but I refuse to do red face exercise. I love the way working out makes me feel AFTER I have worked out, the working out part I hate with a passion.

I try and get to the gym 3 - 4 times a week (mainly because I hate the thought of them taking my fees and me getting minimal bang for my buck...). The only classes I do are Zumba, yoga and body balance, I usually do a half hour cardio and 15 minutes of weights if no classes coincide with my window of free time and that does me.

Not Fernwood....I go to one of the Boroondara gyms in Melbourne.

I too only go in order to eat cake...and keep everything working...I have had arthritis since my early twenties and diabetes II.

I go 4 times a week and do Ballet Sculpt , where I dream of wearing tutus. Body pump , where I dream I am Serena Williams.. Prime Active. Which is sort of Carmen Miranda or slow Zumba and Body Balance where I am all new age. ( I have a very rich fantasy life)

Oh I also like to swim ( Esther Williams)

When I was too late for a class the gym people said would I like a personal trainer. I said no as I do not like to be made to sweat :D

I only get red faced nduring body pump...I love that bit because you don't have to jump around :)

.....and most important of all, I only really go to the classes in order to justify the stretches at the end :)

Ha!

I like the way you write! Seriously, too funny!

Ooooh you have made my inner nurse tingle with excitement!!

Do you have T2DM because you were once a fatty or did you have some a predisposition or a pancreatic illness which caused it?

Are you able to control it with diet or do you need medication?

And lastly do you take medication for your defective arthritic joints? I have learned there have been fabulous leaps and bounds in both arthritic management as well as management for diabetes and I have a genuine interest in what works for you regarding your management in trying to control both diseases.

No... Not fat...and no one else in the family has the diabetes either.

I am on metfotmin tid and am taking part in a seven year drug trial of once a week injection of dulaglutide. I watch what I eat. And go to the gym.

With the ankylosing spondylitis, I have been on NSAIDs for yonks. Maybe they are what has caused the pancreas to go haywire???

Have not had an acute attack for about ten years now. Exercise is essential for this one.. Use it or lose it. :)

I am by no means an expert on the subject, in fact I have a basic understanding of the endocrine system, but I would think given you have no family history and you are not as fat as a house, it does stand to reason that your diabetes is a horrible side effect from the anti inflammatory meds.

I have never heard of your particular condition and look forward to doing a bit of research and learning some more about it. I am not one to sing my own praises, but I do feel confident I will have a cure for you by lunch...

I love the fact you are proactive in best managing your diseases. Sounds to me like you have it all well under control. I hope you feel suitably proud of yourself. Arthritis is a difficult disease to manage given the chronic pain that comes with it and the fact you live with it so stoically is admirable.

I am off for a breakfast that should shoot my BSL to hell. Have a great day, sister.

A spondy, gymnastics or Ballet/dance as a kid? You see a manipulative therapist like a physio/osteo at all??

Not really Sorcy (great to see you back by the way :) I have been to various Physios, also Alexander Techniques and Pilates.

All good stuff.

I was quite sporty as a kid (as long as I never had to run LOL) swimming and gymnastics were my faves.

I thought so, dancers and gymnasts tend to get it, but yeah I could see you can't really do too much for it but keep your core strong.
Good to see you too!

Ever wondered what a kilogram actually (and precisely) is....?

This is more interesting than it sounds and involves the CSIRO, so, your tax dollars at work... For something useful for a change.
I picture Lisa Simpson lol.
