I am not going to lie. My best life is in Facebook. I don't use it to discuss hardship, or to share a serious hurt or worry, I do that via face or phone. I use it to make me feel good, and make my friends smile. And I cull anyone who isn't going to add to my happiness.Oh absolutely. Unfortunately also it seems a lot of people care more about their image than anything these days and social media is a good platform for them to let that out.
And no I haven't read it. Good?
It is a story about building Cathedrals in the Middle Ages. Don't let the premise fool you, it is an absolute cracker. It is in my Top 5 Favourite Books of all Time.
Some people prefer the weight and feel of the real deal ... I love my ereader (dont have an ipad or tablet) ... have a huge library of trashy books saved to read late at night when i need to switch off brain and sleepOh for heaven's sake!! Do you see the icon called 'iBooks'???!!! It's orange with a symbol of - wait for it - a BOOK..! ...or you could get the kindle app....
Correction/Apology. I thought you said HOW do you read books on iPad. (Which a lot of people I know WOULD ask, despite having an iPad and he iBooks app)...Again - apologies..!
I no longer want to spend $30 on a new release and clutter house with books (already have 3 bookcases filled with husband's grandfathers reading library which he refuses to cull back ... drives me nuts!!!!I dont expect nor want my family to keep every book I read forever ... i think he should go through them .. keep the ones he made notes in ...or a few which he'd like to read for hinsrlf
Yes I do.Excuse my ignorance - but do you read yours books on an ipad? I am SOOOOO behind the times if so ....... I get a book and a book light - maybe that is where I am going wrong
I have hard covered books everywhere here - are they wothless now?![]()
I was one of these people who believed I needed to physically turn a page to enjoy a book. I was 100% wrong.
I have never been a fan of buying books, even when I did, I passed them one once finished. What is the point of having read books all around you? - cue Seinfeld Ep

i have been tempted only because my mum in nz has one and it would be great to use facetime (apple equivalent of skype i gather) but as lately shes forgetting her ipad password and the Apple geek brother in law hasnt made the inconvenient 20 minute drive over to help her by removing need a of password (oh yeah heavy sarcasm there ... shes on her own ... im in oz ... one sister is overseas visitinf family til new year ... other sis works and doing her best to visit and have her overnight on weekends ... and mum is lonely ... yes its her choice to remain in her own home ... and she is a bit of a loner ... at 85 its hard to join new things to make new friends and your old group are either moving to be near family or into retirement or nursing homes or dieing ... so its very easy to say she brought the loneliness on herself by her decision to stay there after dad died last year ... but mannnn im a little over hearing that she takes advantage of people to come help her and that they need to exercise tough love to get her to face reality
Reality is on returning to her home last night after what would have been a nice stay with my sister she called me for a chat and started crying when she said she called because she felt lonely... probably walking into home with the scent of the flowers i sent her on anniversay of dads death last week brought on those feelings and after a 40 minute chat we agreed next year were not commemorating the day he passed but will remember his birthday and father's day and keep flowers for happy times
I sent the flowers because i knew i was having a hard time getting through last weeks anniversary and would probably end up blubbering on phone and bringing mum down along with me and didnt want to do that but did want her to know dads never far from my thoughts
anyway now I've set myself off again
Shit

Gotta get up and at 'em and get to work

I apologised. No need to stress. And I am very sorry but I misread it as a more general question. Everyone calm down. The ... whatever... was because rightly or wrongly I find it odd when people own devices such as iPads but seem to not know how to use them. NOW we all know (or maybe it was just me at did not know) that this was not in fact the case and I misread the situation. So : sorry.Prisus Christ!

I totally understand that. I still buy real (physical) books. And as I have explained I very stupidly MISUNDERSTOOD THE WHOLE POST. I am a book abuser, I drop food in them, lay them face down to keep my page, turn down corners to keep my page, I am hugely disrespectful. I have a girlfriend who is a book nazi. You almost have to don white gloves just to pick them up.
It's okay, Hools. Save your postage. I will download it from Amazon. However if I deem it shit, you owe me costs!

That's where you are wrong. An iPad makes life better!People tend to forget that some of us live quite wonderful lives without owning an ipaddont sweat it ...

I love my kindle, but I tend to use the kindle app more, sad sign of the times when my eyes adjust better to a backlight.
Totally - I discovered this amazing thing where I only keep in touch with real friends and the conversations we have are real. And now you don't need a facebook account for messenger so I can still be in the group threads I have with a few friends. I actually still have an account which I use for family living overseas, but it's a bit pointless since I never actually use it.
I thought I might miss things like funny/interesting news articles but once again I discovered that Facebook is not the only way get this info.
That said, I love Instagram and that is the fakest of the fake.
I did love Facebook but unfortunately even the people I love became a little insufferable on there after a while. There was the one extreme of people having a "life sucks" rant the second even something remotely inconvenient happened (I'm talking one of my friends going into a full on "life isn't fair" meltdown because her mascara spilled in her suitcase). I found I was spending a lot of time on there and feeling down everytime I looked on there. The other extremes were people who seemed to be going above and beyond to try and makes their lives look better than everyone else's. My life is much happier since ditching it. I also find I have better relationships with my friends (I was scared it would be the opposite) because you see which ones really care about you and want to catch up and see what you've been up to and it's exciting hearing them tell me things I didn't already see on FB. There are certainly downsides for me not using it (not having instant contact with everyone for example) but I realised I really didn't need it once it was gone.
I'll pretty much read anything but I do love thrillers and historical reads too. I just finished reading The People Smuggler on Saturday. It was eye opening but very intense. Still trying to digest it.

In my opinion, the best thing to do when you don't know is ask someone; worst thing to do when you do know, is make someone feel lesser, just for asking.
